Hiya well I have been having a think about the holiday we have booked with Virgin(10 nights at AKL) and I have worked out that if I change my booking with VH to a flydrive and then book direct with disney we could save a lot of money plus have the dining plan and tickets package which still will cost less than our VH booking.

So what I was thinking was a split stay as I am a bit worried about the location of AKL however my dd really wants to stay there.

So I was thinking of staying at AKL for 4 nights and then spend the rest of the holiday at another resort.

I like the Poly or Beach Club though as I have not been to wdw before I am not sure which one as I don't know which area we will like?

Any thoughts?

Have stayed at the Yacht Club (so basically the same as the Beach Club) and loved it. I vote for Beach Club - unbeatable location, fabulous pool and just REALLY beautiful environment :thumbsup2

Haven't stayed at the Poly, but did go to dinner there - didn't appeal to us, personally: found the public areas to be rather dark and on the "tacky Polynesian" side (Beach Club, in comparison, is very classy). BUT the Poly is on the monorail (so has that advantage) AND horses for courses - a lot of people on here seem to RAVE about the Poly... so you might like it too.

Why are you worried about the location??. Its a great place to be based. Unless you stay in the Poly, contempary or Grand Floridian, all the hotels are much of a muchness in terms of travelling.

personally if you transfer after 4 days you are going to loose precious time, after you check out of one hotel and into another(unless you have places to stash your bags). personally Id stay at AKL, its a lovely hotel, the rooms, pool etc are great, buses to the parks are very quick and its got a great shop, you wont be disapointed. if you really want to see the other hotels, hop round them.
Id stay here over the other hotels you mentioned anyday.

Can someone confirm, I THINK that Disney have some "easy hotel transfer" facility: i.e. you pack your bags in one room, check out of your original hotel, go off to the parks, check into your new hotel and your bags are delivered to your room?

Must admit, "hotel hopping" is fun - i.e. whilst you are there, go for a nose around the other Disney hotels... it is interesting AND helps you decide where to stay next time (or where you want to avoid!) :)

We didn't like the location of AKL at all. It really felt out on its own and away from all of the action of WDW. Personally, we felt as though we may as well have stayed off-site. We also didn't like the rooms - they seemed small and were particularly dark. That said, overall, it is a beautiful resort with some wonderful public areas. It benefits from excellent room rates, too.

With your yound DD I think that, location-wise, the Polynesian is much better than the Beach Club for you. We spend a lot of time at the Magic Kingdom with our three children, and having the option of the boat or monorail to Magic Kingdom, plus the direct monorail to Epcot, is unbeatable. The rooms at The Polynesian are also larger and have just been beautifully renovated.

That said, the Beach Club is cheaper than the Polynesian and the pool complex at the BC/YC looks particularly nice (if a little big); but we like the volcano pool at The Polynesian -- at least we can keep a close watch over our three!

You also have the beautiful tropical gardens and beaches overlooking Magic Kingdom at The Polynesian. The views of Wishes each evening are breathtaking.

Yes, it's really very straightforward. The resort take care of moving all your luggage over to your next resort for you.

It is very straightforward to change resorts and I like to swap hotels too :) Last trip we did CBR / BWV / AKL & SSR and swapping wasn't a problem at all for us as we made sure we were orgainsed :thumbsup2

That said if I was on my first trip, and only had ten days I think I would choose one hotel only to avoid having to pack and unpack (and have that slight feeling of limbo after you check out of one but can't check into the next one until 3pm). I would not want to waste a second of those precious ten days :)

We loved AKL; my DDs went wild (no pun iuntended, sorry) for the animals.

It is not as conveniently sited to the parks as some of the other hotels, but to be honest if you are going to go to the hassle of getting a bus, an extra few minutes on it is really no hassle at all :)

PS I enjoy the buses and don't view them as a hassle, though others have different feelings.

hi, Thank you everyone, you have all given me a lot to think about.

Still not sure what to do though.

We will definitely have to stay at AKL, my dd has her heart set on that one.

The hotel will play a big part in the holiday as with DD we are not going to be in the parks from morning to late at night. While she does not have a nap she still needs a break from the parks for a few hours so she does not get over stimulated.

when we have had problems with room they have offered to move everthing as it was from the room and put them in same place in new room dident do it mind

hiya after thinking about it we have decided to think about stay 14 nights though this might mean bring the trip forward to September.

Are these good prices?

6 nights at AKL Savannah Room and 8 nights at poly £4848.

6 nights at AKL Savannah Room and 8 Nights at BC £4800

6 nights at AKL Savannah Room and 8 Nights at GF £5088.

(I love the look of this hotel however not sure if we should stay here at I think maybe the Victorian theme is a bit similar to the Disneyland hotel at DLP and would like to experience something different for wdw )

The prices between Poly and BC are not much different, prices included 14 ticket package ticket with disney.co.uk, and flight are a fly drive.

Also hoping to get DDP.
