I teach reading, and this is one I always have to address with my students:
Around here (Ontario, Canada), when we say words that begin with "tr", like tree or train, it comes out sounding like "ch"
"Chree" instead of "tree" and "chrain" instead of "train".
Similarly the "dr" blend sound more like "jr".
"Jrum" instead of "drum".
Whenever I get to this part of the reading lesson, it always turns into a discussion of regional accents and how sometimes we don't pronounce words exactly as they're written.
It's always fun to hear the kids trying to say "TRee," with a TR sound. It's really surprisingly difficult for us!
How are "tree" and "drum" pronounced, in your neck of the woods?
