More reviews- I accidentally posted part 1 in the regular restaurant boards.
Weds night, 3/21- Flame Tree BBQ
I got the ribs, sub cole slaw for the beans, corn, side of onion rings with a snack credit, and a drink. Oh, and chocolate cake. Kids each got a hot dog, which was kind of smallish. DH was back in the room with DD. My mom got the ribs, dad the salad. I thought everything was very tasty, I could not finish the ribs- there are at least 6 or 7 ribs with the portion- a LOT. The o-rings are GREAT here! And helpful employees carried my tray for me. Cake was ok- now just in the little plastic cup, not a fresh slice like it was a year or so ago.
Thursday lunch- Pecos Bills- wow, we waited til 1140 to get lunch, instead of our usual 1100 and it was MOBBED. Took a good 20-25 minutes to order, and then we couldn't find a table! We ate on a planter box ledge outside. I got the chicken salad, which is very good, my older son got a burger, younger son the sloppy joe which looked kind of yucky and he only ate half, and DH and my daughter (2) split a burger. She just wanted the fries anyway. This was a restaurant where I could not get french fries for my son, only the produce listed. Weird. I often asked for fries and grapes or carrots and some restaurants said yes, others said no.
Usually Pecos Bills is a favorite, but I think their children's choices are stinky here right now.
Thursday dinner- just DH and I to Narcoossee's
Bar- we sat at the bar for a drink- incredibly nice bartender, Sergio, waited on us. He was top notch.
Dinner- I found the server (Steve) to be semi-jerkish. He asked if we wanted drinks, I just asked for a diet Coke since I had a cocktail at the bar, DH said, "I would like a martini, but give me about 10 minutes or so..." The waiter actually said, "I don't have a timer on me, so you can tell me when exactly you want it."
I was floored by that comment.
We were on the dining plan, so we each ordered an appetizer- I ordered the crab cakes- BEST EVER- these were divine! DH ordered the salad (caeser) and we kind of shared. The salad was OK- we agreed we both should've gotten the crab cakes! Bread was good- nice crusty sourdough. I was STARVING so I kind of ate a lot. The butter is unsalted and has crystalized salt sprinkled on it- nice, but if you get a chunk of that salt in your mouth, it's a bit much.
Entrees- I got the filet, DH got the surf n turf. Both were fine. I would say order slightly under-done the way you like it; I ordered mine medium and DH medium rare, and both were slightly overcooked. The potatoes were very rich, I couldn't eat even half of them, the asparagus was nice.
Dessert- I got the key lime creme brulee which was divine, and DH the almond cheesecake which he was SWOONING over.
I would say overall the food was quite good- not Ruth Chris good for a steak, but very good for Disney. Steve the server was just kind of gruff- what really torked me off was that we went outside for part of wishes- I couldn't see them very well, so I came back inside and Steve was nowhere to be found with our desserts- well, he had taken a smoke break cause when he put our desserts down, he reeked of cigarette smoke. That was not cool to me- servers in an expensive restaurant like that shouldn't smell of smoke when still on shift.
Friday lunch- Backlot Express- I had a difficult time finding ANYTHING to eat here in MGM before 1100. Most of the restaurants didn't open til 1130 and we were very hungry. This meal was just my younger son, daughter and myself, as older son and DH went to see the Stunt show. We got hot dogs, which were quite big, fries, and 1 marble cheesecake, 1 strawberry parfait. Nothing was memorable about this lunch except me trying to balance my tray, push the stroller and get to a table, and a teenage girl ran right into me and spilled my soda all over my fries.
A CM quickly helped me, replaced the soda and fries and carried the tray for me. Can't say I recommend this restaurant, but it filled our tummies.
