More Adventures in WDW: June, November and December Trip Reports

I cannot wait to see what amazing pictures you take at Animal Kingdom! :thumbsup2

Love the play list :)

Thanks Dawn. I usually find the Animal Kingdom the most challenging park to photograph, but hopefully I'll come back with some photos that you'll enjoy.

That WDW Forever sounds so cool!! Man I wish that was still around! I've never heard of that before.

Plans sound great! :goodvibes

WDW Forever really was fantastic. I really wish that they bring it back someday- maybe put some of the old tracks up on itunes or something.

Well, Buzz and I are back from our day trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We had a great time, and I’ll be starting on the trip report as soon as I can.

As we begin a new portion of the report, here’s a little reminder of our cast:

:earsboy: Meeko- Me. 20-something Disney fan. I enjoy taking pictures at the parks, especially character photos. I’m also interested in both musical films and theater.

:earsboy: Buzz- My twin brother. He’s an artist, photographer and a big fan of Disney, PIXAR and the Muppets. He’s also interested in animals and loves to watch their behavior.

As for what we did, once the report is underway, you can expect to read about…

A day trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

donaldparade-300.jpg

Our first time seeing Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade plus with plenty of other Holiday decorations that were already up…

lumiere-300-1.jpg

And a quick evening of window shopping at Downtown Disney to finish out the day.

universal-300.jpg

In addition to our Disney day trip, I’ll be starting out the report with a mini-trip report of a precursor to our day at the Animal Kingdom- Buzz and my first day trip to Universal Studios Florida.

Stay tuned to find out what two Disney fans thought of Universal!

I'm so very behind but I'm here again and so excited to hear about your day trips to AK and Universal Studios. :thumbsup2

Yay for the Animal Kingdom! You will have a good time there. I just love the theming/atmosphere.

Oooh, how did I never hear about the make your own CD? That would be so cool...bummer they disappeared though. :guilty: But I do agree, your playlist is perfect for a trip to DAK.

Hey LL! I've missed "seeing" you here. Hope you enjoy the report.

We had a great time at AK. We're actually already back.

I don't think they have had the make-your-own Forever CDs since 2002 or so. It's been far to long. :(

Can't wait to hear all about it and see your pictures popcorn::

Awesome. I should be able to get my first half of the Universal mini-report up tomorrow, so you won't have to wait too long.

The playlist was so great for the trip there. It was a lot of fun listening to the songs on the way over and then hearing them again once we got to the park- especially some of the songs from the background loops and the Nemo Musical. :thumbsup2

Before we start our November Disney day trip, let’s go back a month to another Orlando day trip- Buzz and my first ever visit to Universal Studios Florida. I had originally anticipated to include this in the pre-trip report for November, but ran out of time before we actually left. Still, I wanted to include it somehow (and I know a number of you have been really interested in hearing about the trip), so perhaps it will make a nice prelude to the November report. Now, since this is the Disney trip report board, I’ll be keeping the Universal portion of the report somewhat more brief than I usually keep the Disney portions, but hopefully there will be enough photos and thoughts for you to enjoy. Without any further ado, here we go!

Buzz and I arrived at Universal about 40 minutes before park opening and quickly parked in the garage. For those of you who have never been, Universal doesn’t have the kind of parking lots that Disney has. Instead, there are a couple of giant parking garages. After parking, instead of taking a tram, you go down moving sidewalk after moving sidewalk until you finally reach City Walk which is just a short walk from either Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure.

usfentrance2-600.jpg

After all these years, we finally made it to Universal! I remember growing up watching Nickelodeon and seeing this globe at the end of all of their shows that were filmed there back then. Now we were actually here.

usfentrance3-600.jpg

The Arch.

usfentrance4-600.jpg

Even though we had only just gotten there, I was already impressed with the theming. The entrance area had some beautiful architecture and touches.

When it was time for the park to open, an employee (I guess they’re not called Cast Members here), did a little countdown or something, but I couldn’t really understand what was being said. Oh, well. The important thing was that we were being let into the park. Our first stop was the Studios Store to pick up an autograph book since wanted to try and get some character photos and autographs here and didn’t think bringing a Disney book might be appropriate. They had a number of different designs to choose from. I ended up getting a Simpsons book. One of the nice things about Universal was each of their autograph books came with a matching fat pen that was easy for the characters to use.

yellowcab-600.jpg

Once I had my autograph book, I was ready to hit some rides. First, we headed to the New York area. Again, the theming here was superb.

mummy-600.jpg

Our first Universal attraction was the Mummy roller coaster. Apparently, Universal has a policy that on particular attractions, you must store your belongings in a locker, but they let you use one for free for the duration of the time you spend at the attraction. I can see how this could become a hassle, but I really liked it. It was a lot better than either having to pay for a locker or hold onto your bags and cameras. There was no line to speak of, so we got right on. The ride was great- it reminded me a lot of Everest with both the thrill aspects but also some cool show scenes- particularly an amazing-looking animatronic mummy.

madagascar-600.jpg

On our way to the next attraction, I got my first Universal character photos and autographs- Alex the lion and a couple of the Penguins from the Madagascar movies.

simpsons1-600.jpg

Next, Buzz and I headed over to The Simpsons Ride. We’re both fans of the show, so we figured that this ride would be right up our alley. Just outside the ride was Apu’s Kwik-E-Mart. It was closed at the time, but we went back later to check it out.

simpsons2-600.jpg

The Simpsons Family in front of the ride.

simpsons3-600.jpg

The theme of the ride is that you’re going to Krusty the Klown’s new theme park Krustyland and, as things so often to in Springfield, something goes terribly wrong. Being fans of the show, we enjoyed the ride a lot from the queue complete with classic theme park-inspired Simpsons moments (remember Itchy and Scratchy Land or Mount Splashmore?) to all the details in the preshow to the ride itself. So much fun!

simpsons4-6002.jpg

After the ride, who should we see outside the Kwik-E-Mart but Homer Simpson himself. Now, those of you who have been reading probably know that Buzz doesn’t usually join me when I’m meeting characters, but he did this time. Homer was a lot of fun- one of the best characters of the whole day.

mib1-600.jpg

After leaving Homer, we headed next door to try the Men In Black Alien Attack. After storing our stuff in a locker, we quickly made it through the queue and onto the ride. It’s another ride/ shooting game like Buzz Lightyear but a bit more intense with much more elaborate sets. Again, thought it was fantastic.

mib2-6002.jpg

For you Disney fans, part of the story behind the ride is that the MIB headquarters is hidden in what’s posing as a former attraction from the 1964 World’s Fair similar to the Carousel of Progress or some of the others that Disney did for it. The whole area around it also has somewhat of a Tomorrowland feel which I thought was neat.

simpsons5-600.jpg

After the ride, Homer had gone elsewhere (Moe’s perhaps?) and Bart was hanging out at the Kwik-E-Mart. Again, both Buzz and I went to meet him.

jaws-600.jpg

It was had to pick a favorite ride of the day, but if I had to pick one, I think it would be Jaws. The theming on it was so well done, the story was good and the effects were fantastic. It was just a great ride in every possible way, I thought.

jaws2-600.jpg

After the ride, we walked through Amity on the way to San Francisco.

frisco-600.jpg

A look at Fisherman’s Warf.

Next, we headed down to the ET Ride. Unlike most of the other attractions in the park, ET was less of a thrill ride and more of a traditional dark ride (think Peter Pan meets Small World meets Imagination). The ride was fun, but the queue through the forest was really fantastic too. There was so much to see if you actually take the time and look.

monsterbash1-600.jpg

Since it was still Halloweentime, Universal was running a little show called the Star Toons Monster Bash with a number of different characters in Halloween costumes doing the “Monster Mash” and “Thriller” among other songs followed by a meet-and-greet.

monsterbash2-6002.jpg

First up were Scooby-Doo and Shaggy as a mad doctor and the mummy. These two were great- more of my favorites of the day.

monsterbash3-600.jpg

Curious George as a pirate with The Man in the Yellow Hat. These two were a lot of fun as well. And, yes, George is still as mischievous as ever.

monsterbash4-600.jpg

It looks like even Woody Woodpecker is no immune to the whole vampire craze.

monsterbash5-600.jpg

Woody has a girlfriend, apparently- Winnie Woodpecker.

wwcoaster-600.jpg

Since it was nearby, we headed to Woody Woodpecker’s Kid Zone to take a ride on his Nuthouse Roller Coaster. It’s very similar to the Barnstormer. There weren’t really any kids around though, so the only people riding the kids’ coaster were adults, which I thought was pretty funny.

caliarchitecture-600.jpg

Some more of the architecture of the park. I’m not sure if this is based on a building in California or a set from a movie that I’m not familiar with, but I really liked this building.

simpsonschars1-600.jpg

We headed off to the Hollywood area of the park next, and found the whole Simpsons family, so Buzz and I got some pictures. Here’s Mr. and Mrs. Simpson. It seems like Marge is always in Homer’s shadow.

simpsonschars2-600.jpg

The brains of the family- Lisa.

By this time, we had only been in the park a few hours, but we had already done pretty much all of the major attractions that we knew that we wanted to see. The low crowds and the park were certainly working in our favor!

Next chapter: The rest of our day at Universal Studios

Sounds like you guys were having a great day! Your pictures are, of course, wonderful. The Madagascar characters are so cute! :) Looking forward to hearing more!

Awewome pictures as usual, they're getting me excited for our trip to Universal. Although, I'm pretty sure we won't luck out wiht low crowds the week before Christmas :sad2:

Love your pictures of Woody. When I was little I loved him and would run around yell "Woody the 'Pecker" over and over. Made my parents really proud :rotfl2:

Thanks Dawn. Yes, so far everything at Universal had just been fantastic. The Madagascar characters were so great. I loved all the poses that Alex was doing- too funny.

The crowds were so ridiculously low when we were there- it was great! I couldn't believe how much of the park we got to see by the end of the day.

 You simply must get your picture with Woody when you go to Universal. I just wouldn't mention your special name for him if I were you.

Well, we’ve had our reservations for our December Disney trip for a little while now, but I wanted to wait until I had gotten this current report started before I began another pre-trip. So far, it’s shaping up to be an interesting trip.

This time around, our trip will be a family vacation with my brother Buzz and my parents. If you’ve been reading along with the June and what (little) I have of the November report so far, you know Buzz and I, but now seems like a good time to introduce the rest of the family:

:earsgirl: Mom- My and Buzz’s mother. Mom is interested in learning about history and different cultures, so World Showcase at EPCOT is one of her favorite places in Disney World. She also loves to go to the restaurants around the World and also enjoys visiting all the resorts, especially at Christmastime to see all the decorations.

:earsboy: Dad- My and Buzz’s father. Dad likes to relax while in the World, and can often be found sitting on a bench and soaking in the atmosphere. He also likes gardening and checking out the gardens and landscaping in the World, and he is also a fan of Tim Burton and especially The Nightmare Before Christmas.

I'm excited that Mom and Dad will be coming too! Since our Food and Wine trip fell through, they haven't really gotten much of a vacation this year. I can't wait to have a good old fashioned family vacation with all of us.

As for the trip, we currently have reservations for three nights at…

riversidechristmas5-600.jpg

Port Orleans Riverside! We were actually planning on trying to get reservations for one of the other resorts that we haven’t been to in a while, but this close to December, there weren’t many rooms left, so we’ll be back at Riverside. This will actually be our first time staying at Riverside at Christmastime. We finally got over there last December for a quick look at the decorations in the lobby, but up until now that’s been the extent of our Holiday experience at Riverside. We don’t have a lot of plans at Riverside, but I’m hoping we get a chance to do a little exploring in Alligator Bayou since we’ve never really seen much of it

ssetrees1-600.jpg

We decided to only do one theme park day on this trip, and we’ll be spending it at EPCOT! We’ll be doing the Candlelight Processional dining package complete with lunch at San Angel in Mexico. Of course, we’ll also want to see all other Christmas entertainment including the Joyful! Gospel show that we missed last year and some of the Holiday Storytellers. This will also be my first chance to meet EPCOT’s newest character Duffy, and I’m hoping we give Captain EO a try since we’ve never done it.

mickeydonaldsnowman-600.jpg

Since we’re only doing one theme park day, we have lots of time to go to some of the places that are beyond the parks. We’re looking into doing a resort day and spending some time playing mini golf at Winter Summerland – someplace we’ve never been to before- and then spending an evening at Downtown Disney and possibly having dinner there.

akltree-600.jpg

We’re also planning on doing some resort-hopping throughout the trip as well. We have an ADR for dinner one night at Sanaa at the Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Kidani Village. We haven’t been to this restaurant or Kidani Village in general, so we’re excited on trying something new. Plus, the menu at Sanaa looks fantastic.

bcgingerbread-600.jpg

We’re also planning on spending time over at the EPCOT resorts, checking out all the Christmas decorations and probably having lunch at either the Boardwalk or Yacht and Beach.

poday210-600.jpg

And, since we’ll be just across the way at Riverside, we’ll be planning on heading over to Port Orleans French Quarter for our traditional breakfast and beignets one morning of the trip.

Based on our plans so far, it’s looking like this trip will be much more laid-back than a lot of our other trips lately, so it should be a nice change. I certainly wouldn’t mind spending a little more time just relaxing at Disney. Up until the trip, I’ll be interrupting the Universal/ Animal Kingdom report with some more updates, so stay tuned.

Those plans look fantastic! I can't wait to see all your holiday pictures!

:rotfl::rotfl: It's cute when your 2, when your 30 they start banning you from parks, and I already can't go to Knottsberry farm :rotfl:

Ohh I hope you're going in December before I am so I can oogle your always awesome pictures of Kidani - where we're staying. :cool1:

Oh yeah, and that you have a nice trip too I suppose :rolleyes1

Your plans sound wonderful! I love the holiday storytellers and the Candlelight Processional is just so beautiful! I can't wait to see the pics! :goodvibes

Your plans for December sounds amazing!! I so want to go at the Holiday time someday!!!
