Welcome to Disneys Coronado Springs Resort! Buzz, Goofy and I arrived mid-morning.
The layout of the El Centro, the lobby/ shopping/ dining area, reminds me a lot of the main building at Port Orleans Riverside. At the entrance to El Centro, though, were greeted by this tropical fountain.
To the left of the entrance is one of my favorite resort shops- Panchitos Gifts and Sundries. Not only is it fairly good-sized, but the
Three Caballeros theming is especially fun.
Remember this little guy from
The Three Caballeros? Burrito, the flying donkey, stands at the entrance to the shop and serves as a popular photo opportunity.
Inside, a statue of the shops namesake is featured.
Looking down from a window, Jose Carioca keeps watch of everything.
When we got there, Goofy checked-in with his conference, and then the three of us went to check in to the resort. I really didnt expect them to have our room ready quite yet, but it turned out that they did! So, while Goofy took care of some more things in the convention center, Buzz and I re-parked the car and starting bringing the luggage into the room.
This was Buzz and my first time back to Coronado since they remodeled the rooms a few years back. I have to say that I did miss the more colorful look they had before, but the light blues and dark browns on the current rooms were very nice too.
The desk area made the whole room feel a little more business-like than the other moderate resorts that usually have a table and chairs in this space. Im sure its perfect for the conventioneers, but it does make it feel a little less homey than someplace like French Quarter or Riverside. Also strangely enough, besides the mirror above the desk the room was devoid of any art on the walls, which made the room feel a little bare.
The bureau complete with TV and coffee maker. Another thing I liked about the room but didnt get a photo of was the sink area of the bathroom can be separated from the rest of the room by two large pocket doors as opposed to the curtains youll find at the Port Orleans Resorts or the Caribbean Beach. You dont get the double sink in the bathroom that you would get at those resorts though, which is not quite as convenient. All in all, I liked the room, but I think out of all of the four moderate resorts, the guest rooms here were my least favorite. I did enjoy it enough, though, that I certainly wouldnt mind staying here again.
After getting everything settled, Buzz and I went back to catch up with Goofy for lunch. Our room was out in the Ranchos section of the resort which was near the back and pretty far from El Centro where all of the restaurants were. They did have a internal bus that just went between the resorts four bus stops, but Buzz and I decided to take the scenic route and walk there, taking the opportunity to explore the resort a little.
The Ranchos have sort of a rustic look with some nice desert landscaping.
Across the lake is the beach-like Cabanas area.
About the time we made it to the Cabanas, we were certainly feeling how hot it was! Suddenly I was not excited about the prospect of walking around Magic Kingdom the next day in that sort of heat. Still, for today, we only had a little ways left until we reached El Centro and its air conditioning.
