We are a family of five with three and soon to be four cell phone users. All of us would love an IPhone, but I am guessing it is way too expensive for us.

With that in mind, I figured I would ask and find out exactly what people are paying for family plans before I go any further.

Right now we have Sprint's Family plan that is 1500 minutes with unlimited texting for three phones. I also had the $10 a month data plan on my phone, but dropped it because my phone is just not set up to use the internet easily. The total bill is like $99 a month plus tax. (dh gets work discount)

So what could I expect to pay a month for three or four phones if we were to switch to an IPhone?

Thanks!!

What kind of discount do you get from work? I get a discount with Sprint.

I have looked into this but haven't done anything about it yet.

I was told that the discount comes off the BASE plan.

So, the $129 plan for the family plan would get the discount, but the add ons ($20 per extra phone, $10 per smartphone) would NOT be discounted.

Here is what I came up with for four:

$129 for family plan (1500 minutes and unlimited data and texting) for 2 phones
$20 extra phone
$20 extra phone
$40 for four smart phones

So: $210 total aprox. plus about $20 in tax......$240/month for 4 users! :scared1: I would get a discount of about $29 off, so it would be aprox $210/month.

Right now we pay a fraction of that.

We have a family plan with 3 adults on it. We have the 1400 minute plan with unlimited text messaging and 2 mb(?) of Internet usage per phone. It is 205.00 (135.00 per month for our portion.) We switched from sprint and added my mother to the plan. For dh and I we pay more a month when compared to sprint. We paid 105.00 at sprint. We also have a work discount applied. We love our iPhones :)

Our bill is around $170/month. 4 phones total, only 1 Iphone. That is with 700 min, but we have free mobile to mobile with any carrier and that has dropped our minute usage alot. Wish I could go lower, but when I checked last night I couldn't find a lower plan. We have unlimited family messaging, 1 Iphone on the $25 data plan, 1 nonsmart phone on a $10 data plan and 2 phones with no data plan. This is also with a discount from my husbands work. The discount on the Iphone data is only for the $25 plan, it does not apply to the $15 plan. Though my husbands usage is usually consitent with the $15 plan, he goes over when he travels more.

You can get a family texting plan with AT&T and it costs the same regardless of the number of phones you have. But each iphone has to have its own data plan. And that can get expensive. Even the cheapest plan is pretty expensive when you have multiple iphones.

We have 3 iphones with AT&T. One has had an iphone since the day they came out. At that time, AT&T had only one iphone plan and it was an extra $30 per month for unlimited data. He is grandfathered into that plan and rate as long as he has that phone number and an iphone. The other two latecomers have their own individual limited data plans that are cheaper but there's always the possibility that they will go over the allotted data.

Monthy bill for 3 iphones runs in the range of $200 for us.

DH and I also have iphones but they are on a separate account for business accounting purposes. Those two generally run around $110 per month.

We are with AT&T and have 4 smart phones on our plan. 3 are iPhones and one is Android. Our monthly bill is $250. We have 700 shared min, free nights/weekends, unlimited texting, and data plans on all 4 ( some unlimited, some not). The data plans are really what makes them so expensive. Ours are $30 for 1, then $25 for the other 3.

We have 5 smart phones on sprint, 1500 min. everything plan, with insurance on all 5, and a 25% work discount we pay $251/mo.

We have the 1500 minute plan, 2 smartphones and 1 non-smartphone (which may be upgraded to a smartphone in April), plus a wireless card, insurance on it all, and pay around $210/month.

For just my dh and I on Verizon we pay 150$ a month and hats with unlimited data and only me with a text message plan.

Here is a breakdown of our costs
Rate plan 700 min w/rollover minutes- $60
Unlimited family text plan + any mobile to mobile - $30
-$10.50 discount on above
Data plan for my phone $10
Add a line fee phone #2 -$9.99
Add a line fee phone #3 - $9.99
Add a line fee phone #4 - $9.99
Iphone Data - $25
-$3.75 discount
911 fee x4 - $3.00 x 4 phones

Total $152.72 add another $10 for taxes, etc bill is usually @$162ish

I noticed that sometimes my daughters get charged @$1 or so for data charges, I think they sometimes accidentally hit the wrong buttons. Truthfully, I think it is me when I go on their phones. OOps!

:eek::scared1::eek:

I was going to price out iPhones and plans before Christmas. I've just saved myself some time.

We have 3 iPhones on a family plan with AT&T, unlimited texting, it runs $190/month. I love my iPhone, so it's worth every penny to me.

This is an interesting thread! When we lived in the states I was in a Verizon contract and wasn't going to break it just for the iPhone, so I was just stuck with a regular old phone. We moved to Europe, I got the iPhone for 1 Euro ( yeah at the time it was $1.43 I paid for the iPhone! YAAH ME!) Anyway, my bill is about 85 euro a month to include unlimited calls to tmoblie customers here in Germany, any landlines, unlimited texts, unlimited data and unlimited calls to the US. So it comes out to about $120 ish or so a month. Good to know I won't be paying much more for me and my hubby to get one when we get back stateside!

This is an AWESOME deal! What data plan do you have?

We pay $165 on verizon for two smartphones with unlimited data (grandfathered in), 1400 minutes (need this for the free friends and family deal), 2 500 text message plans, and one $10 extra line fee. This is with a 18% discount on the phone plan and one of the data plans.

I have to say, I am so glad I saw this and posted on here a breakdown of my costs. My bill automatically gets paid through my credit card, and very bad of me, I don't usually pay attention to the charges. I first posted our bill was @$170, then realized it used to only be @$160. When I was going through to list our costs, I noticed my daughter's phone had an extra 9.99/month charge for enrolling in some website or something. I have no idea what it was. I called AT&T, the lady was very nice and reversed the charges and added some kind of block on both of my girl's phones. She said some companies will send a text saying if you don't want to enroll Reply back with STOP or something, if you just ignore it or delete it, guess what, you are now automatically enrolled. Very deceptive if you ask me. I would have just deleted it myself. I don't know if that is what happened or not, but just to warn people, check your bills and be aware of unwanted text messages.

We have 5 phones on our plan

2 Iphones with unlimted data ($30)
1 Android with 2GB data ($25)
2 regular phones
Unlimited Family Texting ($30)

We have a plan that is 850 Anytime w/ Rollover minutes that isn't offered anymore - I think the base rate on that is $59.99 and then each additional line is $9.99. We get a 14% discount through DH's employer but iirc the discount doesn't apply toward the iPhone data plans. Our monthly bill runs around $230.

We could cut the Texting charges off by installing the Apps that provide free texting but I've never gotten around to setting it up. I should really do that.

Also, my son who is on the 2GB data plan never even comes close to using that amount. I've often considered dropping him down to the $15 package but I figure the month I do that will be the month he decides to stream like mad.

I am so glad to see this thread. I have been going back and forth over weather I want to upgrade or not. I have an old razor phone and an older plan that with my discount I only pay $32 a month for 1,000 anytime minutes before taxes! I have an ipad and an ipod touch and keep thinking I want an iphone too. Now I know I am just too cheap to change! DD has a go-phone that I put $25 a month on that she uses to buy unlimited texting and the rest she uses for minutes and it last the whole month. I am just not ready to pay anymore right now for an iphone!

2 IPhones with all the bells and whistles....I pay $183/month - $22 of that is for insurance on both phones.

Don't do it lol I started my son off on the $15 data package with his iPhone. It took NO time at all for him to go over, WAY over :scared1: AT&T was great about it and upped him to the $25 plan. He doesn't even come close to using all of his data now.
