Month of September - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Aloha WISHers.

Home from the run at Mickey's place. Great seeing everyone again.

Maura, best WISHes on future endeavors.

Debra, nice seeing you here again, haven't seen a novel length post since I've been gone. LOL.

Kara, never once saw you guys at DL.

Hey everyone else out there!

Got in my 8 1/4 recovery run today. LOL.

Happy Aloha Friday.

Thanks for the good thoughts everyone on my upcoming change. There are many moments when I still think I'm crazy--well at least for good reason perhaps!

Vicky Believe me, the DIsney/TT connection entered into my thought process! But they've closed the lounge, from what I've heard, and who knows if it will re-open. Besides, if I could ever convince my DH to go to Disney again (a highly unlikely possibility) then I'd be good since he's still a GM-er.

So this weekend is my first LR using my marathon training plan. It's based on maintaining specific paces, and I need to do 8 miles at 9:30. I think it should be okay, but since I haven't been wearing a watch and since I have no great sense of pace, I have no clue! I may try to borrow my DH's Garmin (also serves as a little trial to see if I like it and want to buy one)

Have a great weekend all. Nice to see the pace picking up--in training and in posts.

Maura

Here I am trying to keep up with posting....

Diane: Visor in your winter gear, hmmmm

Lily: Sending good thoughts your way for a great 1/2 in PA!! Go Warrior!

Vicky: Hoping your IT band is feeling better.

Carrie: me Superwoman?? I wish I felt like that, thanks and made my day!

Kara: ooooo, new shoes, I like new shoes, do I need new shoes, probably not, but I like em.

Jackie: Good job on the TM, but sorry about losing the motivation the other night waiting for hubby to get home. The waiting is hard and it would have happened to me also.

Maura: :hug:Hey girl, Sending some pixie dust your way hoping it helps you wiht deciding what your next step in life will be. Finding a purpose or a job that you are passionate about is the ultimate I think. Of course now you can't give any excuses for not having time to train, right?? hehehe

Liz: Hey Amiga, how's that back doing?

Bibbidi: UGH! Allergies, had a bad allergy attack this weekend, hoping you can get that ex-id asthama under control.

Terri: Have a great time in HI, say hi to Jeff!!

Chris: Nice feeling to be ahead of your training schedule huh? I am ahead too and figure it gives me an "out" if weather or circumstances call for it.

Kimmer: Hey my other AMIGA, how's it going?

Jeff: still waiting for those photos and video, thanks for the antagonizing photne calls from CA, really made me feel loved!!

Debra: My week wasn't really all that wonderful either. Got in the miles, but just seems like I am floating through the days and not paying much attention. I hope you get on the Disney Mom panel, that would be cool. What is the ice cream flavor that you are munching on lately??

AFM: Been getting in my miles and training is going well. I signed up for a 5K I did last year and is right by my house. I can ride my bike there and back for it, so why not right? Went to one of my fav places after work yesterday, Mount Trashmore!!! Hadn't been in two weeks, so felt great to get back there. Been ahead of my training schedule for my next half in November so that I consider a plus. Just been kinda on a blah thing lately and not sure why.

ALSO: Anyone wanting to show there WISH racing team pride and maybe didn't get in on the WISH shirt order, I am still taking orders for hats or visors!!!! See my link in my siggy below!! I have 26 orders and need 36 to get the minimum so I can order them. Come on you know you want one!! hehe

-Racey Tracy

Jackie - Sub 2 hour hal fwith walk breaks? I'm so jealous of your dh!!!! SOrry about your missed run. S ometimes training with the dh gets you both motivated, but there are times.... I must admit that it's usually me convincing him not to go out, thoguh/

Debra - They take non moms on teh moms panel or are you just pretending? (Nothign against pretnding, jsut curious as a non-mom). HOpe you feel more motivated this weekend!!! This is a much shorter tri this weekend, so not a big deal. Just want to have fun.

Tracy - Sorry about that funk. HOpe your November race helps you push through. tri's get me throuhg the summer. Now, moving to marathon training doesn't soudn like fun at the moment. We'll get there, though.

Vicky - Way to go on the speed work! We've got to work on that one again this year.

Maura - Good luck on teh LR!!! Sounds speedy to me, but you are speedy to me! Have fun! Hope you love teh Garmin. ;) So, if you dficd your passion and set up your own business, let me know if you need someone to run a West Michigan office. ;)

Jeff - 8.5 mile recovery run? :faint:

Chris - Way to go! It's awesome to eb ahead of shchedule!

Been an off weeek fro me. First a funeral visitation adn then stomachissues have thrown me off. At least I know I'll be workign hard tomorrow (not as long but still hard)

Have a grat weekend everyone!

I just got an email with the following information from Disney Endurance:

EXCITING 2010 RACE CALENDAR ANNOUNCEMENT
Tune into DisneyEnduranceSeries.com on October 15, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. EDT for the announcement of the 2010 Disney Race Calendar. We're counting down to the excitement, are you?

Jeff: Have you missed the novels? And here I was, thinking that my absence had been celebrated. Wait, wait. You were being sarcastic, weren't you? Just for that....no post for you. I can be silent. I know when to shut up. I can just ignore you....:rotfl2:

Tracy: Just figured out I owe you a SASE for the nametag. On its way! :goodvibes I'll check with DOOD about a WISH hat, too. And last, and most important, thanks for confessing that you've had a blah kick recently, too. Makes me feel less alone out there--although I do train alone. :upsidedow

Oh, and the ice cream answer is...mocha fudge. (Everyone jealous?) Ahhh, running-recovery ice cream....

Maura: DO test out your DH's Garmin. I finally got one (405) and love, love, love it. Are you still gunning for a 4.00 mary?

Carrie: Did you ever think the day would come when you'd call a tri "not a big deal"? :cool1: :worship:

Frank: So, what's your second choice/guess for the new fall event?

I'm really just popping in to answer Carrie's question about the Disney Moms Panel. No, you don't have to be a mom to apply! (I have many delusional moments, but thinking I'm a mom is not one of them--too much admiration for the real thing.) And I told you about it in hopes more of us would apply.

After all, I can think of several people who would make great panelist here among us, and know other WISHers who've already applied! The more, the merrier! Wouldn't it be great to have a WISHer represented? So check out the responsibilities and application process--round 1 is really short and sweet--by going to the Disney website. Just google Disney Moms panel! :thumbsup2

Hello all-

Popping in to say a quick hello...

Jeff, I did see you...you just didn't realize it was me yelling out your name as I went "racing" past you. You had finished the race and joined the spectators, I saw you and called out to you. Your camera seemed to come my way, but not sure if you snapped the picture...Sorry we missed the meets down there. Just didn't work out timing wise for us this trip.

Tracy, I'm going to get my new shoes tonight!!! Not sure if I'll end up with the same ones or something new. Anticipation!

Maura, you are a rock star!! Trust me, the Garmin is addicting. Tried my DH's, loved it, then went out and bought the next model up from his :yay:.

Taking this weekend off, then will get back into training if we decide that we want to do the Healdsberg Wine Country 1/2 Marathon on Halloween. MMMmmmm...WINE...what a motivator!!

Have a great weekend all.

Bibbidi, hoping the asthma gets more controlled. I've heard of many who have asthma and are able to do events. I hope you become one of them.

Terri, oooh Maui HM. I really look forward to your report.

Jackie, sorry your DH didn't feel it. Hope you get a good training in somewhere.

Debra, hope you are feeling better and can get moving along soon.

Frank, thanks for the post about the upcoming October announcement. My reaction to that when I got it was not pretty. I'm just wishing they would announce the date and save the hype for their announcement on the name of the event. Calendar planning is underway for next year already.

Carrie, have a great tri this weekend.

Thinking of Matt doing the WI IM Sunday!

Kara, hope the shoes are just oh so comfy and good.

Tracy, glad you are getting in the steps where it makes you happy.

I'm packed and ready for PA. Hope to make it to expo in time tomorrow. I have to wait for DH before we leave.

Quick question ... I was at my running store today and one of the salespeople suggested I try using a gel for a boost of energy during my LR. He said I should pre-mix it in my Fuel Belt with some water. I didn't think to ask how much water. I'm assuming enough so that it's more like a drink than a gel? :confused3 I've never used one before so I don't really know what I'm doing. Maybe I should just stick to the jelly beans :)

I just checked out Jeff's pics on facebook from the DL half. Congratulations everyone and I can't wait to do it again and get that coast to coast.

Lily- I know what you mean about planning. I am not anticipating doing that run next year because I am still hoping that I can do the coast to coast in 2011 and two trips down so close just aren't in the cards. The furthest I planned ahead for next year is Indy in May. I think I will be heading to Chicago twice in the spring, once for the RnR Chicago half and then again for the Men's Health Urbanathalon. There is a very cheap bus that heads out there and a friend from high school lives there and offered me a place to stay.

Deb- What do I think the race will be? Well, I am hoping it is at least a 15K or half. I think while the two shorter races are nice it is hard for a lot of people to come down twice so close. If they did something on back to back weekends (Sunday then following Saturday) it would be easier since one week of vacation is all you need.

Here is what I would do if I were Disney Endurance (it's long, bear with me). First, I would change the Princess half slightly to be a Pirate and Princess half (since the fall pirate is out). It would run the same course but would have different shirts and finishers medals. It would not be sex specific, meaning either sex could sign up for both. I figured most men would do pirate and women do princess but it would give people the opportunity to do both in different years to get both metals. Then, for the fall series I would do a race weekend like January but instead of a half and full it would be a 10K and half. This would keep a shorter race for those that can't do a half but also a half for those that want a longer race. I would then pull a page out of Elite racing's book and offer an additional bonus medal for anyone doing the Oct half and Jan half or full. If you do the Oct half, Jan half or full, and DL in the same year you get 2 bonus medals. I am not sure of the theme, but I think it would be kind of cool if it was a pixar race. The specific film or character could change from year to year. For example, the first year it could be a Buzz Lightyear half and Woody full. Next year a Mader half and Lightning McQueen full. Just an idea.

I went out and did a slow 11.8 tonight. I was going to do a longer run but with the half last weekend, fallball starting Monday, and the Phily half I though maybe I should just do the slightly shorter one.

Frank I love your idea about a Pixar race, and with Toy Story 3 coming out next year, it would be a good fit.

Vicky I have never heard of mixing a gel with water, but there's probably no reason not to try. I use gel straight and then swig water after. I would look at one of the gel's sites--they usually tell you how much water to drink afterwards. PowerBar Gel says to drink 4-5 oz water after, which is not very much.

Back later....gotta go out to watch DS XC meet. All day affair with picnic.

Maura

Frank I only said to my DH last week that I think the oct. marathon would be "cars" themed...that way they can use the RP start.

Wow some huge posts I have missed.

Good to see everyone in the throws of goofy training!!!!!!

Vicky I only use jelly beans but I am a creature of habit, don't like to try new things in the food dept. However, thought my longest distance ever is a 1/2 so not sure what I will need to do the other half:scared1: I don't even use gatorade which I am going to try and start using cause I think I will need to refuel the electrolytes.

Jeff:scared1: Only you would do 8 1/4 miles as a recovery run.....:thumbsup2

Lily: Good luck in PA!!!!! You will do WISH proud

Shoot, gotta run will catch up later......great workouts this weekend to all

What a difference a day, or a weekend, makes! Did our 20 mile run this morning. Had a GREAT run. We were all apprehensive after a tough 18 miles two weeks ago, but the 20 was almost easy. The lake that we start from has a dam at one end, and the greenway crosses the dam and has a really tough hill on one side. We hit the hill twice today, once at 9 miles and again at 19. I ran up it easily at 9, but none of us expected to run it at the end. Maybe I'm crazy, or maybe just competitive, but I led the pack at mile 19 and ran it again!

Headed for the tub to take a cold bath (skipping the ice this weekend) and get some lunch. Have great weekend everyone!

Jackie

Brrr! Was it ever cold this morning (9 C) and cloudy. I did a 10k at the bike trail and it is nice to run sowhere that is not hilly. I am ready for the Race for the taste in 4 weeks.
Vicky- I use the powerbar gel on my run over 60 minutes. I don't know if it is psychological or it really gives you energy but it makes my long run easier. And that is good enough for me.
Frank- I was hoping that the new fall race would be a Pirate half-marathon and by doing the Princess in the spring you would receive a third medal by doing both in the same year. Well....
Have a nice evening

Diane

Hello WISHers!!

Keeping an eye out on the Ironman website to see how ThunderMatt is doing!!

I did an good 8.05 miles this morning, yeah and so far so good!

Debra Ice cream is in store for the evenings desert and my mouth is watering already!

Ok I am going to interrupt this thread for some business.
I still have nametags from this past year for the WISH meet in January and I am doing them again for next year. Look for the thread 2010 Jan nametags.

I am however, not bringing them with me to the meet, just way tooooo much. So, what I am doing is having people send me a SASE. Here is a list of the ones I still have and the ones I am currently doing. If you see your name on this list and haven't sent me a SASE then please do so at you earliest convienence.
(see the thread for the address to send it to)

Hello everyone! I had a great run with TnT this morning in Valley Forge. We did a 7 mile run around the park. LOTS of BIG hills though. I walked up one of them because it was so steep. One of the coaches who ran with me two weeks ago was cheering people on at the 2-mile turn around and she doubled back and met me at about 5.5 miles and finished the run with me. She runs faster than me, so I sped up a bit to keep up with her, but I'm sure she was going much slower than she usually does. She encouraged me all the way up the last hill and I made it! Ran the whole hill. The last .75 mile was downhill and it felt great!

Hope everyone else had a good weekend!

Hi everyone! Did my 11 miler yesterday and my 5 miler today. Weather was nice both days. I tried out the gel on my 11 miler. It was a little messy to say the least. I thought I emptied the entire pack but I hadn't - didn't have any tissue either. The fact that my lips were already blue from the Gatorade didn't help either.

Kim - I mix my Gatorade with water, otherwise I find it too strong.

Maura/Diane - Thanks for the gel tips!

Frank - I'd love a Pixar themed race! That would be cool!

Tracy - Are the name tags the same as the ones last year? I'll have to see if I still have mine but I'll have to wait until I go in October to send you an SASE - the post offices don't here don't have US stamps.

Jeff - That's some recovery run! :upsidedow

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Vicky, Yes the nametags are the same, figured it was easier that way.

Tracy

Great workouts Vicky!!

Tracking Matt as well......

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday
