Month of October - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

For the walkers and runners who need an update.

69 days, 18 hours, 33 minutes to the Friday 5K. 70 days to the Donald half, 71 days to the Mickey full (=Goofy or Dopey), and 72 days if you're just downright Dumbo.

Hi everyone! I had some pain in my soleus muscle again yesterday so I skipped my 3 miler this morning. I'm going to have my PT look at it again tonight. It feels okay now and only seems to be aggravated when I wear heels so I'm going to stick to flats next week and see if that makes a difference. Luckily (sort of), our office is moving so it will pretty much be a jeans and t-shirt week anyway. That will make it easier to wear sneakers.

Dale - I bring a throw away shirt to wear at the Disney races. I remember reading that the clothing is picked up, washed and given to charity. As far as carrying stuff - I bring a gel pack with me and my camera. I seem to remember gels being given out on the 1/2 course just around the Car Care Center.

Megan - We're at the Polynesian. We managed to get in on the 4/3 deal so it worked out :)

Frank - I liked CS! I really liked their jogging trail around the lake and their quiet pool with the lanes. I didn't really care for the restaurants though.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Usually when I dont post - it means I've gone into hiding... :sad2:

but I'm starting again! :yay:

I did 5 miles thursday and I'm hoping to get out today - the weather is changing....

I also go to Goodwill and buy some $3 or less "throwaway" clothes (and someone posted the chat transcript in the Princess Thread - they confirmed they pick up the clothes, wash them, and donate them to charity!) - you just never know the weather - you get up and at the start at 4am! :scared1: So a sweatshirt really helps - I also know the weather is so variable! I bought the hand warmers and $1 gloves (stretch ones Walgreens carry them...)

but in '08 it was HUMID and hot, and no extra clothes were needed!! So I put them in the check bagged - for "next time"

We're at Beach Club Villas :dance3:

At the Expo they have LOTS of things to buy - I like the jelly beans, and knox blox type aides - the gel blox I chew when I get water - 1 or 2 whether I think I need it or not!!

Hi Everyone - I just posted this on the Rebel Alliance board, but thought I would share it here too. I have to tell on myself and my silliness.

Here's a funny story - yesterday i did a 5k that i have walked with my friends for 6 years. I planned to do the 5k as a training run, and run back to get them for the last mile to meet my 4 miles. Well, we got there 20 minutes late and missed going off with everyone else. Oh well, it's for charity and I'm not doing this for time. So I go and start to do the course, about a mile in i realize they reversed the course this year and the runners are coming at me. :scared1: Oh well - I continued on my backwards journey, met up with my friends about 2.5 in and walked back with them to the end. Not how what I had imagined. We kind of just laughed at the whole thing. Everything was going wrong, ipod was skipping, garmin was not picking up a satellite and there's me running the wrong way. Oy!

Hope everyone has a great week! Try not to run backwards. :rotfl:

LOL! what a great story! When my son was about 4, every so often he would have a "backwards day". He would walk backwards, try to say things backwards, it was hilarious. So of course he would really love this story too.

But you kept going & laughed the whole thing off--now that's the best part.

So Bunnyfoo, what is the soleus muscle?

I have neverendingly sore inner calves--I can feel the exact muscle band that just won't loosen up.

Before the TOT I had a massage & the therapist (Pat @ Beach Club--You are AWESOME) really picked up on exactly the problem. It really helped with the run. But now guess what--less than a week after & they are tight & sore as can be! Stretching 15-30 min. before & after & have only done 2, 3 mi. runs this week!

Any suggestions?

Bunnyfoo that sounds like the muscle Regis Philbin is complaining about - up near where the groin muscle would attatch to it? A deep muscle? Hard to pick up your leg and move forward - or turn on it?

BLTigger :confused3 I've never had a massage - so I cant offer any help! How about a long bath? Heating pad?

wdwprincess Oh my goodness - what a memory!! I have the Judd's on my playlist - and I keep thinking of the song
"I know where I'm going..."

I just follow the people in front of me!!

IT's NOVEMBER!! already! :faint:

Guess its time to look for the new weekly thread!
:dance3:

Hey everyone! Got out for a 3 miler this morning - I did my route backwards so it would be a bit easier and ran it slower than I normally would have for the first 2 miles. Nice weather - I still wore my shorts even though I saw other runners wearing tights and jackets. I saw one of my neighbours and he was out in a tshirt and shorts too :)

Jeff - :wave2: Are you getting ready for the Honolulu marathon? Btw, got my light from RoadID! It's really cool! Really bright!

Sandy - WTG on your 5 miler!! I've got my throw away shirt as well. Last year, I found it a bit chilly before the race. I wore my jacket from the hotel to the bag check. I really wished I had brought throw away gloves. My hands got really cold and it felt uncomfortable for the first 3 miles.

bounceliketigger - The soleus is the muscle in between your calf and Achilles. In the summer, I had a calf cramp the night before my 15K. I alternated between ice and heat packs and did a lot of stretching. That really helped.

wdwprncess77 - Your backwards 5K made me laugh! That sounds like something I would have done myself :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Vicky Thanks on the update! and :woohoo: on your run - now is that runnning backwards, or was that doing the route backwards!! :cutie:

The throwaway gloves are easy to pack!! I'm thinking if FL weather shows up in the 40's or 50's in the night time - I may even pack those hand warmers!! I picked up a zipper throwaway jacket - its so hard to predict the weather 2 months in advance!!

DH is still running in shorts - and the longsleeved WDW Marathon shirt today - it feels warmer when the sun is shining!! I just look plain silly all bundled up!! then you start peeling the layers!
