Month of August - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Hey Everyone,

Just dropping in with no Activity to report, but should have 4 miles in tonight.

Debra - Sorry to hear about your loss!

What a beautifull morning. Sunny, no more humidity and around 60F at 8:00 for my 3k. Less than 8 weeks for the Disney Race for taste and my training is getting better. Next week I will start running 5 days a week.

I have a question: it is very hilly where I live and do my long runs ( 10k right now, but it is long for me). Would it be better if I would do those runs on the bike trail which are mostly flat? maybe less chance of injuries while I increase my distance for the Donald half-marathon in january???????

Have a nice day
Diane

Debra Sorry about DOOD's grandmother. And glad you got a new toy (happy anniversary!--we just celebrated 25 years on Tuesday)

Diane I think it's good to incorporate hills into your training. It helps with your aerobic capacity. Plus, there is at lesat one killer on-ramp at the half marathon that you will have to run up! Maybe give yourself a break by not doing hills all the time, but I owuld leave some in.

Training goes on. Tempo today, 10 miles coming up on Sunday. Actually had dinner last night with everyone at the table--DD is home for a week and son was commanded to make an appearance (living it up this summer--he and his teenage friends. Ah to be 17 and carefree again!)

For my training I alternate weekds - one on a hilly paved course and one on a flat crushed stone surface. I feel like it makes me a well rounded runner and prevents me form having to pull back when I do encounter the hills that are on the DWorld half like the aquaduct in front of the Contemporary.

We are in the middle of the most humid week in Baltimore yet this summer. I know I will be a stronger runner for pushing through them, but it really got to me this morning and I stopped at 6.5 miles instead of pushing through the whole 8. Fingers crossed that it will break before my long run this weekend.

Diane - If you are feeling hurts from the hills, ease up. If not, though, the others are right. It will help to keepp hills in at least some of the time. Those darn over passes pretend to be mmonster hills every time. ;)

Maura - Yay fro a full dinner table! Good luck on your 10.

K80K - Good for you for not pushing too hard in teh heat! We're gettign a break here. Hope you get one too! (Maybe minus the all day raid would be good)

Did 23 min of yoga last night. All was good. Not sure what's up for tonight. Maybe a pool swim if the rain keeps up.

Debra - sorry to hear about Dood's gm.

Maura and Carrie - hope you two are doing ok

I did some light running yesterday. Calf felt pretty good. I've been stretching and using my stick to roll over the muscles. Didn't push it yesterday. Just took a short, easy run.

Not much to report. Hoping I still have a job in a month. :scared1: Things are getting a little dicey.

Terri

Happy 50th birthday Hawaii! I hope you all enjoy your holiday day off like me. What's that, you don't get today off? Shucks.

8 1/4 miles in the heat.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Jeff The state of Michigan workers get today off--oh wait, they're being furloughed for budget reasons, NOT to celebrate Hawaii's birthday. :sad2:

Judy LOVE the squirrel. Just as crazy as the original.

Took the morning off and "slept in" til 5:30--well, really was up but refused to get out of bed! May try for a swim this pm or just call it a rest day.

TGIF, everyone!

When I got up at 4:30 and it was already 80 degrees I knew my choice to do a spin class today instead of run was the right one. Really pushed myself in spin class burning over 1000 calories according to my HRM. Counterproductively celebrated my success with a pumpkin muffin.

Mmmm Pumpkin Muffins. I'm waiting for SA Octoberfest to come out to go along with my Pumpkin Muffin.

Great job by the way!!

Will this work?

DGF wants to see me in the half marathon and I want to see her along the route.

She will have park admission. Can she get from Cinderella Castle to the Poly in time to see me? I am slow - 13:00 mpm. Resort monorail? Then to the TTC and the Epcot monorail to see me finish?

Has anyone done this?

Disney's see-your-runner site doesn't put MK and Poly in the same list (like it can't be done?).

Thanks for any insights,
Ronda

Yes she should be OK.
My DH made it from TTC to GF to see me and I was 4:30mpm. He made it back to the finish line just as I crossed!!!!

Hay gang , quick check in.

15K race last night. Lots of fun.....I think I prefer early morning races over night races but till lots of fun.

Hey, all. My 10 mile run turned into 11 when I took a wrong turn on a new part of a route. Oh well, the weather was cool and I made it through.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Hey everyone!

Just finished my 5 miler after 10 yesterday. Today's was a little slower at just over 13 minute pace today to help my DW do her first 5 miler. So excited for her.

Burgers and finally a SA Octoberfest to enjoy my Sunday!

Have a great evening all.
