Once upon a time, WDW did have an awesome Monte Cristo sandwich. I had one in 1987 at the Columbia Harbour House (not sure if the restaurant had the same name then), and I know I had at least one more on a later trip.
I was so disappointed when I returned after a long absence and they were no longer on the menu. Yes, they are so bad for you....but so good!
Sorry, just at Disneyland. The closest they come is the Croque Monsieur at Chefs de France (which I believe is pretty much the same thing but is toasted, not fried.)
Ah, the Monte Cristo at Columbia Harbour House! Had it on my honeymoon back in 1991 and to this day, my wife still talks about how good it was! Yes, it is missed.
I had one at Blue Bayou and fell hopelessly in love. Thankfully my niece and nephew opened a diner and put it on the menu just for me(or so they said). It certainly makes me a happy uncle.
Yes, there are many open. The bankruptcy a couple years ago only affected the corporate owned stores, not the ones owned by licensees. We did lose the one closest to our house. Steak and Ale was owned by the same company, and is the same situation.
