Okay, now that the trip is getting closer, I'm starting to think about all the different places that we want to try to eat.

From what I've read, the Blue Bayou sounds like a nice, unique place to visit and am thinking of having lunch there one day.

BUT, everything that I read about the Blue Bayou mentions the wonderful, signature sandwich - the Monte Cristo. But, I can't find any kind of description for this sandwich.

Can someone please explain what the Monte Cristo sandwich is? Is this like a rueben? or something completely different?

To the best of my memory (I just eat it, I don't analize it ;) ) it's turkey and ham with cheese (swiss?) -- very little and very mild -- breaded in a mixture much like a bread dough then deep fried. You eat it plain or dipped in raspberry preserves :D It's really good :D

Well, Rajah described it pretty well. But if anyone else is interested, I actually found a *recipe* for this sandwich. It was really easy just doing a search on Yahoo.

Monte Cristo Recipe

This recipe was distributed to Annual Passholders in a recent newsletter and can also be found in various cookbooks.

BATTER
1 1/2 Cups - All-purpose flour, sifted
1/4 Teaspoon - Salt
1 Tablespoon - Baking powder
1 1/3 cups - Water
1 - Egg

Sift flour, salt and baking powder together. Add water to beaten egg, then add to flour mixture and mix well. Set aside.

SANDWICH
1 Ounce - Sliced white meat of turkey
1 Ounce - Sliced Swiss cheese
1 Ounce - Sliced ham
2 Slices - Egg Bread

Make a sandwich using turkey first, then Swiss cheese, and then ham. Cut sandwich into quarters using toothpicks to hold sandwich together. Dip sandwich in egg batter and fry in 360 degrees canola oil until golden brown. Remove toothpicks and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with raspberry jelly.

BTW, if anyone is interested, this was found on the following site: http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Cabana/1051/recipes.html The site was put together by a girl who worked in the New Orleans restaurants at Disneyland for a number of years.

Monte Cristo Sandwich was not on the Dinner Menu when we where there in January. Perhaps Lunch only.

I just was there about a week ago and had one! I am sure it is terribly fattening, but tastes great. Basically, it is a batter fried cheese, turkey and ham sandwich that you can dip in the preserves (I think blueberry) that they give you. It costs $11.00.

but just seeing the topic got my tastebuds going! :D

I'm hoping for a trip out this summer.
