I'm with the others, they are good, but I can't eat more than a quarter of one. Try the crab cakes - they are wonderful!!

Cheers,
Lisa

Agreed!! Yummy!

Muffyn-

The iciing sugar just makes it a little sweet. It also comes with a side of jam which I didn't use. It is very yummy and a good price(for Disney). Order it otherwise you will always wish you had:)

Some restaurants are able to make Monte Cristo's that are not greasy at all. But some do make them a bit greasy. If you're curious, here is a recipe that claims to be an imitation of the Blue Bayou's version:

BLUE BAYOU MONTE CRISTO SANDWICH

BATTER:

1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 1/2 c. water
1 egg

SANDWICH:

1 oz. sliced white turkey
1 oz. sliced Swiss cheese
1 oz. sliced ham
2 slices white bread
2 tsp. jelly

To make batter sift flour, salt and baking powder together. Add water to beaten egg and then to flour mixture. Mix well and then set aside.

To make sandwich use 1 slice of turkey, Swiss cheese and ham on 2 pieces of white bread. Then cut into quarters using toothpicks to hold sandwich together. Dip sandwiches in egg batter completely and deep fry at 360 degree oil until golden brown. Remove toothpicks and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with your favorite jelly and fruit cocktail.

I was a cook at Denny's many moons ago, when it still had a pretty respectable reputation. We made Monte Cristos, using the real thick Texas Toast bread. Is that what they use at the Blue Bayou or is just plain white bread?
And ours too was dipped in egg batter with all the items noted above and then deep fried. Greasy, yes. Heavy, yes. But delicious, Definitely!!
I can't wait to have one again. It's been a longgg..time. I can already feel my arteries clogging. ;)

Read somewhere that it's also dusted with sugar, is that correct? I liked the sound of it until I read that bit!

It is still dusted with powdered sugar, not a lot though.

I can't remember if it was as thick as Texas toast, but it definitely was not just plain white bread, it was thicker than that.
