ETA: updated title on 1/9 to reflect new information. Thanks @katherine52478

Are we looking at another months/years long closure? I so hope not but it seems to be going down at the same time the rest of that portion of DtD is closing for the remodel? I’m trying to get a grasp on Spring offerings. (Going to DL for the first time since before Covid and my head is spinning trying to catch up on the changes. I swear the monorail just reopened like a few months ago 😢)

What is the timeframe on this?

Unknown. AMC, Earl and Starbucks will be demolished and replaced with new buildings and an open seating area or something. Rainforest Cafe and ESPN Zone were not mentioned at the D23 so I had hoped the monorail would be spared shutdown…

I am super bummed about this. I’m making my first trip out there and was aiming to do all the classics- this was high up there for me :(

Love the DLR monorail. Everyone gets a seat, it’s got a bit of bank going around the curves, you zip right around the Matterhorn. And the generation they’ve got looks so much better than WDW 😝 (You used to be able to sit front/back but idk if they were doing that with Covid.)

We’re staying at the DLH from 3/6-3/9 and will be really bummed if it’s closed. The monorail is the primary reason we stay there. I really don’t want to pay the extra for GCH but may consider if the monorail is closed. I really hate that they don’t show their refurbishment calendar further out anymore.
Also I remember many years ago, they had a tram that would take you from the DLH to the entrance in addition to the monorail. Why wouldn’t they offer this option when the monorail is down? That would be an incredible value add and not very cost prohibitive to Disney.

There is no viable path for a tram from DLH to the front gates now that Downtown Disney exists.

That’s what I was thinking. You would have thought they could have built that into their plans when they build DD. On a more sophisticated level, some type of Peoplemover system connecting the three Disney hotels to the parks would be a godsend and the type of move that would give DL a huge edge over their Florida counterparts.

I mean, that would be cool. An aerial tramway would have been ideal, but they won't ever do it. The distance is too great for any sort of moving walkway, though. Something like that would be constantly broken.

Before, the tram ran from about where the monorail entrance is, across West St, and thru the Disneyland parking lot to the gates. Since the parking lot is now an outdoor shopping mall, it makes it more difficult. But, once they restarted trams, I am sure they could figure out a way to go from the front of the hotel, cross Magic Way to the parking structure, thru it to the tram path and to the tram drop off. It likely would be faster to walk, but it would save wear and tear on the feet.
