Does anybody know if you can still get the Disney World monorail playset in any of the parks or at Downtown Disney? I don't recall seeing any when we were there in January but I am pretty sure I did see them when we were there in December. I also looked on the Disney store web site and they only have the Disneyland one.

My 2.5 year old is completely obsessed with monorails so I was hoping to get him one. He's only ever been to Disney World so I don't think the Disneyland one would cut it for him.

We did buy one of the $20 monorails on our last trip (well, we actually bought 2 because he broke the first one the same day we purchased it) but I'd love to get the set that is powered by batteries (w/ the track).

Thanks!

I would try calling direct. They will ship you one from the parks if they have it. Honestly, I'd be shocked if they stopped selling it. Seems to be quite popular. Maybe they're redesigning it???

FYI, the DL one is exactly the same as WDW version except its red, not gray. Also it has a remote control, which WDW one does not (we have one). Not sure if DL has audio loop that says something about thank you for riding Disneyland monorail, which WDW version has.

When we were there in February the monorail sets were everywhere. I noticed bc Santa brought one to our house for the grandkids.

Check Disney's Days of Christmas at DTD. That's where we got ours, albeit 3 years ago. A quick Google search came up with this contact info:

Disney's Days of Christmas
Downtown Disney
1782 E Buena Vista Dr
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830
Phone: (407) 828-2042

Thanks for posting! Definitely going to do this! It starts while we are there!

Prepare yourself for adult frustration. We bought our first set when our son was 2. It is fragile. It comes apart constantly and the characters that come with it are impossibly tiny. The doors fall off every time my children touch it. But, we bought another one anyway this last trip so the kids would have two monorails running around. They love it, but from a mom perspective it could be much more kid friendly. It also eats batteries pretty fast.

We bought a couple of the monorail sets within the first year or so of production. Such a potentially cool item, but one of the trains struggled to make it around the track.

Maybe they have made the motor more robust...but I doubt it. There are people who "mod" the monorail with a higher powered motor. If you're a hobbyist it might be an interesting challenge. If it's just something to run around the Christmas tree, might not be worth it.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, everyone!

This makes me wonder if they were just sold out while we were there then. We stayed at BLT in January and I remember looking at the gift shop at the Contemporary and I saw the sign for the monorail but definitely didn't see any in stock. I also remember overhearing someone looking for the Contemporary playset and the worker told them they didn't carry it anymore (which seems untrue because those are available online at the Disney Store).

I really appreciate this review because I can picture being frustrated with it as well. My son isn't exactly gentle with his toys so I am a bit worried that he will break it. As I said in my previous post, we bought him the die cast monorail set (the $20 one) on our last trip and he pulled the cars apart and broke it the same day we purchased it. So then we bought a replacement one to bring home and he eventually broke that one too. I am sure most people would think we're crazy to buy an even more expensive one but he keeps watching youtube videos that people have made featuring their WDW monorail sets so I think he'd go bananas if we got him one of his own.

I glued all of the side doors onto ours because they constantly fell off. You can still get the figures into the cars by using the top doors.
