Starting January 21, 2014, service on the Magic Kingdom Resort and Express monorails will be unavailable on weekdays between 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. to allow for planned maintenance. This schedule will run through the end of March 2014. During this time, watercraft and additional buses will be available. The Epcot monorail beam will operate normally

Wow, that's a great incentive to pay all that extra money to stay at a monoresort ! I don't ever remember a time that the Monorails have been "down" for that length of time. More of a cost cutting measure imho.
Just another disappointing executive decision from WDW.

Last year the same thing happened. The monorail system is old. It's needs to be repaired and refurbished. The only way to do that is take it out of service

You haven't been around it a while. It has been happening on and off for a few years, as they do construction at the resorts around the monorail. Better to close it down than drop a beam on a monorail full of guests. Though by some poster's reactions, you might not think so.

Honestly, I don't think the monorail is that great of a perk anymore. When I was at WDW last week and rode it, most of the time it was packed to the gills. It doesn't seem to be a very efficient way to get from point A to B anymore.

I agree....why bother staying at those overpriced hotels?

Could I ask why you think long delayed/long-needed repairs, along with additional boats/staff and additional buses/drivers/fuel is a cost cutting measure?
