Here is a letter I have written to Disney in reguards to the tragic recent monorail crash asking that with respect to the victim and this incident Disney retire the colors Purple and Pink on the Monorail.
If you agree, would you copy it and send it with your name?
or write your own to support it.

Dear Disney,
First let me send my sympathies to the family of the cast member who was killed at the accident on the monorail recently. As well as sympathies to the Disney family as a whole. As a life long Disney fan this is a sad and tragic time.
I realize there is a lot of important things to take care of at this time, this is not the most important thing at the moment but with the recent accident on the monorails may I respectfully request that Disney retire the Monorail colors Purple and Pink.
I know as a frequent visitor seeing these colors now would be a tragic reminder. While it is important to remember the past as not to repeat it, I feel continuing to use these color would be unnessassary with the wide slection of colors available.

Sincerely,

To some degree I understand your emotional response, but on a different level I feel that it is somewhat of an over-reaction to a tragedy. The colors didn't cause the accident to happen and if a reminder is what it is all about, then I would submit that just seeing a monorail train would be sufficient trigger to create that same emotion.

Bare in mind that the damage on the train is probably repairable and that same train will one day be out on the track. Perhaps with an all new control (i.e. driver compartment) but it will be there. Until we are truly informed of the cause of the accident...retiring the color would be a waste of time and resources and really mean very little to the families involved. Sorry, even though I think that it is a nice sentiment, it really would be quite ineffective to make that change or at least not enough for me to actively support.

seeing these colors now would be a tragic reminder.

Wouldn't the retiring of a certain color remind Disney fans or more specifically monorail fans of this tragic event, or imagine being in earshot of an innocent child asking a parent or CM why their favorite color isn't a monorail color, or is no longer running.

Regardless of whether the colors are retired or not various factors, some beyond one's control, could remind one of this tragic event.

This is how I feel as well. Your thoughtfulness is very touching though:hug:

Agreed 100%.

You can send 5 letters or 5 million and they will do what they want.

Nice thought, but no reason to retire them.

no the colors had nothing to do with it of course, and yes the train itself will be repaired an put back in service,
to me that's all the more reason to change the colors.
example...Value Jet accident, then changing their corperate name to another name as not to remind people.

.

with all the color of trains as is it's not likely you'd get your favorite color anyhow.
but I think the opposite is more likely, the train approaching the station
and hearing people says..."isn't that the train that..."

They didn't change the colors of Primeval Whirl when a cast member got killed from the ride... :confused3

" isn't that the ride that....."

people will move on. Just give it a little time. We will all be riding the monorail again shortly...

I understand the sentiment from the OP. It would prevent the comments of some guests who will see these colors and make a comment out loud such as "THAT'S the one that the CM was killed in." :guilty: Is anyone going to want to ride in the front of the Purple monorail knowing this?

I don't think riding in the front of any monorail will be an option for quite some time.

You are probably right, didn't think of that. Thank God no one else was up there. I shudder to think of the number of times we have ridden right up at the nose.

Value Jet changed their corporate name because people would no longer fly them. It had nothing to do with sentiment; they wanted the name disassociated with the accident. To do the same, Disney would have to change its name.

Frankly, I don't think people will associate a color with the monorail (I never have); most people won't even know that the colors pink and purple were involved. And people won't stop riding the monorail, any more than commuters stopped riding the Green Line subway in Boston following several tragic fatal accidents. (And the Green Line is still green.)

It would prevent the comments of some guests who will see these colors and make a comment out loud such as "THAT'S the one that the CM was killed in."

And if Purple is pulled off the line, people are going to say "So I wonder why Purple isn't running any more...?".

Disney can't win this one. The best they can do is paint a memorial star at the accident point, and press on.

And yes, Virginia, I'd ride in the nose cone if offered the chance. But I won't be doing it at 2 in the morning -- like most sensible people, I'll be safely in my bed at the YC...

I think it's a very kind idea,, but I don't think that will happen. I believe these two monorail trains will be fixed, with two new front cabins eventually. They're too expensive to keep off the tracks.

And as another poster said, the green line on the T in Boston is still green even after the last accident. I've ridden it quite a few times since then and I don't look at it as "omg - it's a green line train and someone died on that". You remember it, and move on.

It's a nice thought. When something like this happens, it makes you want to do something- even if it's not practical. At least your heart is in the right place

To be honest, I didn't know the monorail had colored cars. I never took notice. I guess I assumed they were numbered or something. :confused3

It was the pink and the indigo (I think, unless the other is violet...). Anyways, it's completly silly to think that they are going to decontiniune those colors. I know I am always (I do mean always) looking for the pink, infact, when I eard the news I was praying that the accident didn't involve the pink monorail.

I hate to think of it this way, but when people have your mind set you must. In the grand scheem of DIsney, this death will make little to no impact. Think of all the past deaths at Disney. Mission Space, Big Thunder Mountain (BIG accident at DLR that killed quite a few people), Tower of Terror, Primal Whirl. All of these attractions have contributed to the deaths of people. Other than safty mesures, nothing was changed. Same with this. They will find out what happedned, solve the problem, and move on as quickly as possible.

This is only shocking because it happened at Disney.

if disney does keep the pink and purple monorail around i will say a prayer anytime i see the pink monorail. my prayers and thoughts go out to the friends and family of the driver.
