Monorail closure during trip?

I saw on a website that the Disney World Monorail System is undergoing refurbishment, and may be on modified service during our visit (May 16-23). Does anyone know what exactly this means? We're pretty much depending on Disney for 99% of our transportation during our trip, so I wanted to know if I should give more time between parks when we have to go to a dinner reservation, or whatever the case may be.

Here is what I found:

Monorail-Epcot Beam Overnight Closures- 11:00 PM Sundays - 9:00 AM Mondays, 11:00 PM Mondays - 9:00 AM Tuesdays
Express Beam Overnight Closures- 11:30 PM Sundays - 9:30 AM Mondays, 11:30 PM Mondays - 9:30 AM Tuesday
Monorail Shutdown- 11:30 AM - 6:00 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Starting 4/12/2016 on Thursday
Resort Beam Overnight Closures - 12:00 AM - 8:30 AM Mondays, 12:00 AM - 8:30 AM Tuesdays

So basically it just sounds like it will have shorter operating hours on some days, but still running for the majority of the day. :) Seems that Tuesdays and Wednesdays are most affected, with the monorail being down in the middle of the day but still available at peak time (park opening and closing)

Oh jeez I hope this doesn't stretch into November.............we need the monorail for our 4 parks in 1 day deal.........which is on a Wednesday. :-)

Hmm... a lot of our dinner reservations are at 5pm, in other parks, so I guess we're going to be seeing a lot of the buses this time around? Or do they only go from hotel to park?

The monorail does not go to Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom, so it shouldn't affect any meals there. The only time you would need it, from what it sounds like, is if you have dinner reservations at MK and are coming from EPCOT, or vice versa (since you said your ressies are in-park). All the parks are connected via buses, so if the monorail is down you can hop a bus from one park straight to another just as easily. If you have a hotel restaurant reservation, you can hop a bus from the park as well; or in some cases, a boat.

There will always be a way to get where you are going! The monorail being down will not prevent you from getting somewhere. :)

This was the scheduled closures for specific weeks in April. The website linked doesn't give dates. Does anyone know if they were extended indefinitely or if this is old info? Argh. We booked our resort specifically to have easy return for my son's nap. So irritating since for many months now there was nothing after April.

I asked a similar question a few months back because I wanted to know which monorail beam was closed midday Tues-Thurs. The answer I got was it is only the express beam which runs from TTC to MK & back. You can still take the resort beam to get to either but plan on a couple stops before as it will stop at each monorail resort. Or you can take the ferry instead (same amount of time as the monorail would take as long as you don't have to wait for it to arrive). I also have heard that when the monorail is shut down, they have bus transportation between MK & TTC but you'll have to double check on that with a CM while you're there. I wasn't worried about the overnight closures since I won't be staying or going to/from a monorail resort that late.

Can you clarify what monorail goes where. Express beam, resort beam, monorail beam, I am hopelessly lost. We are staying at Board Walk 2 nights and Poly 4 nights

Yes, I'm really confused too. As previous poster said, it's not clear which monorail line is shut down during the day (it sounds like all of them). I hope the answer a few months ago that it was only the beam from TTC to MK is still correct.

I pretty much understand that the resort beam is the one that loops around and hits all of the monorail resorts plus MK, not sure it goes to TTC, but the other monorails I can't figure out.

There are 3 beams. Two circle around the seven seas lagoon from ticket and transportation center (TTC) to the Magic Kingdom (MK). One is the express beam. It runs in the counter clockwise going directly from TTC to MK then back. You pass by the Monorail resorts (Contemporary on the way to MK and the Grand Floridian and Polynesian on the way back) but it does not stop at them. The second beam is the resort beam. It runs in the clockwise direction. There are 5 stops in the following order (TTC, Poly, GF, MK, CR). The third beam is the Epcot beam. It runs from TTC to Epcot and back.

Yes, and not just the MK/TTC run.
If any monorail happens to be closed for repair/refurb, Disney will dispatch special buses to cover the routes normally handled by the monorails not in operation at that time.

Here is a link to a post on the transportation board where we've been discussing the current monorail modified hours. http://www.disboards.com/threads/updated-monorail-schedule-question.3497389/

This monorail schedule has been off and on for almost 2years now and is likely to extend beyond November. In the years past they ran full tilt and suspended the midday and nightly shutdowns around the holidays.

Express: Transportation and Ticket Center (MK Parking Lot) to MK park itself, then back around.
Resort: Transportation and Ticket Center to the Poly to the Grand Flo to MK then to the Contrmporary then back around.
Epcot: Transportation and Ticket Center to EPCOT park, then back around.

Robo is correct, Disney will always get you where you need to be! Busses will run from where the monorail should. So if the Epcot beam is down a bus will run from TTC to Epcot.
