Hi Guys

In disney and around Orlando in general what is the deal with Money.

I mean can i use travellers cheques in Disney (i.e. the parks, DTD etc.) and the places on I-drive?

Im just 21 and this is first time with GF to Orlando, and im not very good with travel, so i just wanted to know if travellers cheques are frowned upon or are they accepted everywhere? Much prefer to have them than $2000 cash.

Also i have a MAESTRO card, is this little symbol around the parks at the point of sales?:

As it would be great if i could use the card abroad without incurring charges, i dont care if the exchange rate falls slightly, to have this piece of mind.

I am just a little flustered as i dont want to have so much cash with me. Any help would be really appreciated.

Many thanks

Travelers checks are the smart way to go and they can be used just about everywhere.

Not sure about your card as I've never paid much attention at the credit card symbols at the cash registers.

One suggestion, if you're going to spend much time downtown (International Dr.), carry only as much money as you're going to need. Keep the rest in your room or hotel safe. Not trying to scare you, just keep your guard up.

where did i put my razor blades... :goodvibes

im sure ill be fine, glad about the travellers cheques, and glad that they can be used in a lot of places.

But yeah we will be spending a lot of time around I-drive, without a rent a car, really wish i got one - but neither I nor my girlfriend wanted to drive on that side of the road, we would probably crash.

is crime really bad there? Thats totally gay! I wish it was all sugar coated like disney; everywhere in orlando.

Thanks for the reply :)

You'll be fine! Me and my now DH went when I was 18 and he was 21. We stayed on 192 and didn't have a rental car. I assume for the way you spell cheque you are from the UK as well. :cool1:

I would take the money in travellers cheques as they accepted everywhere - I have never had them rejected although some places do ask for ID so I carry my photocard driving license in my purse (leave my password in the safe in the hotel!) which is readily accepted as ID.

I have used both a Visa and Mastercard in and around Orlando but generally use Travellers Cheques. I always take a small amount in dollars for the first night as we now have a rental car and need money for the tolls and it is just easier to pay cash for a snack on arrival too.

Regards

Elise

You'll be fine. Enjoy your trip. :thumbsup2

But please be sure to use the safe. As you would anywhere else dont leave valuables out for people to pilfer. Have read of mousekeepers helping themselves. Just be smart, criminals dont stop at the entrance.... everything will be well! And have a wonderful trip.

Yes get the checks and use them, have a great vacation.

I always use a debt card and never carry cash or the checks. TO bulky but now you can use the cheque card. Also I just leave all my money and use my room key to charge everything back to the room. That is if you are staying on-site. Disney is great about charging to the room and if you lose the key you can call and let them know and you can dispute any charges to your room.

ah ok, well my minds at rest a bit more now.

Its funny you know, you go with your parents when you're young and it all seems so magical, nothing problematic could arise, but then you go when your older and it all hits u! wish i was still a kid!

And yes i am from the UK, lol.

I think ill stick to cheques and a small amount of cash as ive already changed some up. I get really worried about using hotel safes, i dont know why, but i know this is the best option!

Thanks again all. 16 days :)

We'll be arriving on the 11th too! Staying at SSR. My youngest is your age
and she'll be with us. I guess they feel like you do. So they still go with us.
You should be proud that you're taking this big step. You're prepared and you
will have a wonderful trip. Good for you. You're a DISNEY MAN now! :thumbsup2

aww snap! Yeah America will be the furthest ive been away without the folks.

But believe, if my mum and dad were prepared to go back to Orlando i would go with them in a heartbeat! They are all about Vegas these days, and for a strange reason Toronto... :rotfl:

We will be staying offsite on I-drive as we wanted it to be about shopping and activities as much as Dinsey and Universal. The amount of K-swiss im going to buy... u dont want to know.

waaay DISNEY MAN coming throo :thumbsup2
