We have two teenagers, aged 13 and 15, can they have their own travellers cheques or should I get them dollars to use??

I would have thought dollars would be better as they would not have the need to carry their passport

I would agree with that
our kids always use dollars, aged 18 and 13,(now)

with the youngest i give her so many dollars a day otherwise she'd spend the lot in one go....
Also did this with the then 17 yr old last year, this saved her digging into our money,
worked out just fine:teeth:
Jeanette:wave:

Hi ya,

We took my 10 year old niece with us to Florida in
November 2003. She had her own travellers chq's ($250 worth) which we purchased from the post office here - she had no trouble using them over in Florida.

I do agree with the others that cash dollars are a good choice as well. Maybe you could purchase a mixture of both.

I keep a note of how much mine have and how much they've spent (on my Credit cards or cash). Less danger of them losing it. Obviously they have some money ( less than $20) on them just in case, but for shopping, purchases etc I've found it's easier to look after it for them.

My kids have always had dollars which I keep in separate named plastic wallets. Every morning Icheck they've got some money on them. if in the parks they want to spend more, then we sub them.

On shopping days I or they take all their money with us.
