Well, for Christmas Eve we surely didn't go traditional...lol
San Angel at Epcot, 12:30 lunch ADR, 1st time eating here.
Originally we had a party of 3, but DS decided he didn't want to join us. He ate at Artist Palette again...caesar salad if ya couldn't have guessed.
When we arrived at San Angel I told them we were only a party of 2...not a problem and we were seated right away with a nice view of the pyramid.
DH had a soda $2.00, sopa appetizer $6.99, the plato mexicano $15.50
I had a fiesta margarita $7.75, the plato nacional $15.99 and we shared a flan for dessert $5.75.
With our 20% DDE savings ($10.80) our bill with tax was $45.99 and we left a $10.00 tip.
DH was very impressed with San Angel...for me it was average. (my second family is latin so it takes something to really impress me with this type of food). I really liked the sopa on the plato nacional, but I really liked the margarita.
The menu did not list the fiesta as a choice, but i asked and was told not a problem...it was 1/3 each of lime, strawberry and mango. My fav was the mango..not as terribly sweet as the strawberry...not as typically tart as the lime, but it all went down very nicely...and I could feel the tequila...give me a couple of them and I'd have done the Mexican hat dance...
The flan was very good...nice firm with just the right taste to the sauce.
DH said he'd like to return again, but I could wait a while.
Grade: B...straight from DH and only because of the maragarita for me
Snacks for the day...
Frozen coke from the Cool station $4.00, no discount DH was very disappointed...just not coke flavor was present
Mickey ice cream bar $2.50 I was so happy since I'd never had one before and it was great...how can ya go wrong with HagenDaas ice cream and Dove chocolate...or at least that's what I remember reading here...it could be a Nestle product now since that is whose name is on the cart...either way...yum! and affordable...
McDonalds fries and a sprite in WS...forget the name, but it's right next to the bathroom on the way to Canada from FW...DS didn't care for these cause like I said before the only way McD's fries can be bad is if they're cold...and this were as close as ya can get
Mitsukoshi Teppenyaki at Epcot 8pm dinner ADR as part of the CP package, 1st time dining here
This is another place we have mixed emotions about...
The cost of the dinner was $45.99 per person, prepaid with no discounts
For starters everyone gets seaweed salad...DH said it was okay, DS didn't even try enough to feed an ant, I liked it, but wouldn't want it often or in a big portion.
For our appetizers DH and I both chose the seaweed soup with tofu...it was really good! DS wasn't gonna try anything, but I told him to order the soybean pods just so we could try it...it was already paid for so why not? I was really surprised with them...quite tasty, just a pain to get them out of the pod to eat.
The entree is basically the same for everyone...onions, squash, mushroom,s bean sprouts, and your choice of meats/seafood. DH and DS chose steak and chicken while I opted for steak and shrimp. Apparently we got the chef (Tom) who started it all...the Mickey onion stack...here's a photo...
The entree was great! Very tasty although a few of the veggies were a bit soft. The entertainemt factor was great...Chef Tom was very skilled!
For dessert we all had the ice cream...DS had vanilla, DH had ginger and I had green tea. All were good, but I thought the ginger was best...not a strong ginger flavor, just right. The green tea was a bit blah...and well, vanilla...can't go wrong there can ya?
DH and I both had iced green tea which was very refreshing and DS had a soda.
Now, the food was great, the show great, but the CM (female) who took our drink and dessert orders really made us feel rushed, but we understood why. See, as most know it's communal dining...in our case it was a party of 2, party of 3, and our party of 3. The party of 2 skipped dessert to watch Illuminations. The other party of 3 was a DH, DW, and DD, who were previous DVC members, really enjoyed traveling and were now Mariott timeshare holders. We were having a very nice conversation, but we were also holding up someone else's meal. So, the CM was only doing her job and we weren't helping...it'd been more annoying if we'd only been holding up one table but essentially we were holding up to 4 tables. I think we would have liked more time to sit and talk, but we ate our desserts and left.
Grade: B-, and the minus is just for the rush that we did understand...
Our last day takes us to Whispering Canyon Cafe for Christmas lunch and another trip to Artist Palette before we leave....
