Moms - how do you wear your hair to the parks?

Considering that my current salon is the bathroom sink where I whack off my bangs when they get to long (no time for anything else), I've been a pony tail wearer the last couple of times I went. However, when I look at pictures, I wish I had done something a little more with it (or at least had someone else wack off the bangs)

I know what you mean about the pics... Last year we went to WDW and on a Disney Cruise....My hair was long, almost to the middle of my back. I have very fine thin hair with absolutly no body or curl what so ever.; and feel that I have to do it every day to look presentable (DH says I am high maintainance, but doesnt usually complain with the finished product ;) ).

Can't do the hat thing - hot and like someone else posted - what do you do before dinner? Wash your hair all over again?

Anyway, while on vacation, I felt that I was a slave to my hair - blowdrying and curling...yadda yadda yadda.. wanting to look my best for those great family vacation pictures especially on the DCL (call me selfconcious). So when I got home I chopped it off, above my shoulders but still long enough to put up in one of those pinchy clips. I couldn't be happier with it! Like a PP said; Dh loves long hair but he is happy to when my morning routine is les time consuming... Especially with a little one on the way.

And now, I shower every day but sometimes dont wash my hair. I will just brush it out, put it up while in the shower and then curl it with a big barreled curling iron, shake it out upside down with my fingers, give it a few squirts of hair spray and clip it in a messy up-do. Stylish yet low maintainance.

Just my 2 cents .....

My DD always wants my hair to match hers.

Luckily, now my hair is just a little too short to do the two braids anymore, otherwise I would have been right there with you.

DD is just into matching in general right now...do they grow out of that???

Oh I hope so.....mine hasn't yet....she's getting worse. Now she gets upset if we aren't all in matching colors!!!

 :teeth:

I second the two pigtails!!! I have the thickest, kinkiest, most unruly head of hair in the world! In order to put it in decent order it takes about 2-2.5 HOURS! (wash, blow dry, flat iron) needless to say, that CANNOT happen on vacation. I go for the french braid. Either 1 or 2. I wash it, put a ton of gel in it, and then braid it. Luckily I can braid my own hair faster than I can braid someone elses! ...and a braid(s) avoids the "too-tight-ponytail-headache."

On the down side...my head gets very slimy when it gets wet!

Messy pony tail worked best for me. My hair tends to be curly/frizzy so I just put it in a pony tail mess it up some hair spray it so it stays out of my eyes and go. If I tried to make it look good I would end up with this by the end of the day anyway so why fight it.

Last time I spent waaaaayyyy too much time doing my hair every morning. It was long enough for a pony tail, but I didn't want to be one of "those moms" with a pony tail and hat and t-shirt every day. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just didn't want to look like a tourist...I wanted to look put together. HA! After 7 days at WDW, I learned comfort is EVERYTHING. You still wouldn't catch me in an oversize t-shirt, exercise shorts, and nappy hair, though, don't get me wrong.

This time, lesson learned. I'll be doing the hat/pony tail thing. My hair is actually just a little too short for a good pony tail right now, so I'm growing it out. It should be long enough by the time we leave in 3 months.

As far as the hair for dinner thing, I have 2 thoughts:

1) Do people still "dress" for dinner? Especially at WDW? I sure don't. Whatever I wore that day is fine, including pony tail, etc. unless it's someplace real nice or fancy, which we definitely don't do every night at WDW. I'd probably lose the hat in most places, but would still keep the pony tail....don't see a problem with that, I don't wear scrunchies or anything like that anyway. Tasteful simple thin elastic bands that are close to the color of my hair, always, and they are always appropriate--heck you even see stars on the red carpet in low pony tails like that with a side part!

2) If you do need to "dress" for dinner, or just want to do your hair nicer or whatever, it's easy enough just to take out the pony tail and run a curling iron or flat iron through it, and do a half-up (top part only), or trade the pony tail/hat hair for a cute easy loose bun, updo, etc. without having to re-wash your hair. I guess all my time in the military made me an expert at re-doing hair that's been up all day without having to re-wash and start from scratch, etc. lol!

I just chopped off 4-5 inches but mine is still about shoulder length in front (layered) and a few inches longer than that in back. I wore a long heavy pony tail in June and am looking forward to a lighter pony tail in a week. I'm packing my curling iron (maybe for dinner) but I don't know if I'll use it. I just want to be comfortable on vacation and now that I'm married with child, I don't care so much about vanity. :teeth: It may not be the most fashionable look but my family will love me regardless of how bad my hair looks in pics and they will appreciate the extra park time we get if I don't do my hair.

Oh, and I'll be wearing ugly shoes too. Once upon a time I wouldn't be caught dead in flat ugly sandals but Hades will freeze right on over before I wear heels to WDW. ;)

There is, however, room in my tacky fanny pack for lipstick. I'm on vacation, yes, but its WDW not the middle of the wilderness. I must draw a line somewhere. :lmao:

When you are in the Orlando heat and humidity - there are times when style goes "out the window".... now that I live here, I have grown my hair out - from very short "funky" styles to what is finally getting to be your basic bob! I have curly hair... and there is next to nothing I can do with it - I've tried product after product..... even the flat iron on some of the more humid days only keeps it straight long enough for me to get to where I am going! Thankfully I work at home and don't have to 'do" my hair perfectly each day!

My favorite style right now is wash it, throw some leave in conditioner in it -brush it out and stick my sunglasses on top of my head. (It's 11:37pm, and they are still there!) they act like a head band, and I always have my sunglasses when I need them! If I'm going to the parks or anywhere that I am outside for long periods of time that I need my glasses on, I use one of those claw looing things and pull the bang part back!

I did just get a good trim this week. so I will pull out the flat iron tomorrow morning before heading to Poly for b-fast. Maybe it will still look nice when we get there!

I just pull it up in a single barrette since my hair's not quite long enough to stay in a ponytail. Casual, but a quick brush and I'm ready for a nice dinner. I did get my hair cut shorter before our last trip and wore it down.... and forgot sunscreen on my scalp where the part was. OUCH!
