Since we just moved to Wisconsin I have been looking for activities for Avery and I to do together since we are home all day. I found a website for the Local chapter of the Moms Club. It sounds liike it would be a good way for me to meet other Moms and for Avery to get some interaction with someone other than myself. ;) :D

Has anyone other joined a Moms Club? What were your experiences?

Thanks!

I just got off of the phone with the contact person. The Moms Club sounds GREAT! They have several groups within the Club. They have gardening, recipes and cooking, scrapbooking, and a bible study that is non-denominational. They do outings-this month is to the fire station. Have a speaker once a month, lunch dates, and coffee club. And once a month they have a Moms night out. During the summer they meet at parks and the swimming pool. Oh and a Kids craft group. All of these take place in the morning so it does not interfere with naps. There are kids of all ages and they meet in a church which lets them use the nursery for the kids.

I am SO excited about this! The next meeting is in a week with the guest speaker. I am definitely going to go! It sounds like so much fun! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I don't have any info on Mom's Clubs but I think it would be worth going a few times.
Another place you may want to check is the local public school district. Community Education or School Districts offen have Early Childhood Ed. classes for "Moms and Tots". When we moved here 5 years ago it kept me sane!!! I was finally able to meet other women my age with kids my kids' ages. The kids are in school all day now but some of us moms still meet for lunch or to scrapbook together!

My sister has been very involved with one in MD. She's had a great time with it! I looked in to one around here when we moved last fall, but the closest one is too far away. Bummer.

I say give it a try...and have fun!

We have a very active YMCA near us, and we have taken advantage of some of the parent/child classes. Daniel and I do tumblebugs once a week, and Greg takes him to swim "class" on saturdays. I wish there was gymboree around, but these are fun.

I'm not a member, but I attended a couple meetings in Virginia when I wrote a story about the clubs. The oens in Virginia were interesting -- they had play groups based on the kids ages (a "baby" group, a "halfway between baby and toddler" group, a "toddler" group and a "Pre-K" group) so that moms could meet up with moms with kids in their ages group. They did allow kids in the other age groups to come to play groups, too -- like if you had a baby and a toddler, you could bring the baby to the toddler group.
In addition, they had monthly meetings at the community center where they'd learn something -- scrapbooking, self defense, etc. A couple moms would get nursery duty (rotated, of course) while the others got to enjoy the speaker. And then they had some fundraisers such as garage sales, exchanges of clothes, etc. And there was "Mom's Night Out" where the dads would babysit and all the moms would go to dinner without the kids for once.
All in all, it seemed like a good organization. My article was written shortly after 9/11/2001, and the club I was interviewing did some special fundraising for NYC club members who lost their husbands.

I never was in a "Mom's Club", but I had both of my kids in Gymboree when they were little. I think back on those memories so fondly. It almost makes me want to have another one! (if I weren't a hundred years old I might consider it! :teeth: )

I think you and Avery will love a club like this, Jenn Lynn!

I did Mom's Club's when my kids were little and it was great! I met a lot of super people who I was friends with. I was really a lifesaver for me, I didn't know a lot of people with small kids. I say go for it!

I just wanted to welcome you to Wisconsin! How old is your little one? I have a little guy who just turned 2 yesterday!

I was a member when my kids were little. We took part in the monthly activities and also a playgroup. I still get together with the friends from that group and my youngest is 12.

Thanks everyone!

I called the contact person, but she was not home. So I left my name and number with her Husband. Hopefully she will give me a call back.

I really need to meet some people around here to keep from going bonkers! ;) :D It will be nice to know people who also have children. None of my High School friends are even married. The only person who can relate is my sister and she lives in Kentucky!

leahannpenn- Avery is 20 months today! And thanks for the welcome! :) :) :)

Current MOMS Club of Lino Lakes, MN President checking in here. You likely will find MOMS Club a great outlet for you to spend time with other moms and just talk while the kids play.

We have play groups, based on ages. We use school calendar years so that the kids who play together will go to school together.

We also do mom activities too - Scrapbooking, Mom's Nite Out or Moms Nite In. We have a Make & Take cooking club where we make a recipe to take home and freeze or eat that night for dinner. We do coffe breaks at the local coffee house - which has a pretty cool play area for the kids.

And the kids aren't forgotten. We do a monthly craft club at member's homes. We have a music class and nature class. Zoo outings, etc.
Lots of park days now that the weather is getting warmer. Beach days in the summer.

You most likely will have lots of fun! Go for it.

How did you find the mom's club? I live in Wisconsin too, and have never heard of an organized club like that.

I second the Welcome to Wisconsin, it is a beautiful state, with lots of fun things to do!

Princess Vija-If there is not a clublisted for your area email them. Mine was not listed on their webste and they emailed me back with the correct information right away.

Where are you located in WI? We are in the Chippewa Falls area. Most people on these boards seem to be from the Milwaukee area.
