Mommy...Why does Crush talk like you? Final thoughts and summary 10/15

Dude, a whole weekend?? We play every other Friday from about 7 to midnight. There are 4 of us, and another guy has kids, who he has brought a few times. We jsut set them up wit Disney movies in the next room.

We also play every other Friday 7pm until we get tired (read until my 27 year old cousin whines that she is too tired to keep playing). My cousin's both have young kids and they watch movies and sleep while we play. Our kids play :thumbsup2

Aww! I'm glad the princess meal went smoothly.

Thanks! I was too! It was one of our better meals as a family. We had some issues the next day during lunch.....

I'm glad you had a great meal. And I would have never guessed Cindy. I thought she only appeared at the Castle and 1900 PF. I love the pic with Sleeping Beauty- too cute!

We did the Storybook breakfast and while it was nice the Princesses seemed awfully rushed. I mean super rushed. I am glad they seemed to take more time with you.

-Becca-

We've had Cindy there before. And for Giselle supposedly being the new princess, we never saw her once...of course we missed every parade....:rolleyes1

Same Jasmine...and last year's pic...:rotfl2:

That Cinderella is perfect...

And does Belle look a bit.....hispanic? That's fine by me because she looks good.

Just goes to show you that restaurant reviews generally should be taken with a grain of salt. You just never know until you try yourself and even then alot has to do with your server, your state of mind at the time you eat, how hungry you are........

The man at the troll...gotta find my NY drunk......cement shoes anyone?

I swore it was the same Jasmine when we saw her....I think you're right. Different makeup, same poor girl who is the object of my five year old's obsession.....

Dunno about Belle. She was a sweetheart, though, so I didn't care.

That Cinderella was great. Too bad the next one wasn't.....I wish that one had been at CRT.

Like i said, we have always had a great meal at Akershus. I would go without the kids for the food. We obviously got lucky.

Dude, that guy.....I'm tempted to call my...errr....uncles. (My maiden name is VERY ITALIAN)

I missed out on the PTR so I'm signing on here before I get too far behind! I'm looking forward to getting caught up.

Welcome! I will try to bring the relevant stuff over as it comes up fromt he PTR. I know it's 133 pages long!!

My $0.02 - the food at Akershus was very good.

You have to know what you are getting into with a character meal - there is no charming ambience at a character meal. It's a screaming horde of feral children on the verge of meltdown after a long day in the parks. This will not help anyone's enjoyment of a meal. Still, for a character dining place, the place was pretty tolerable.

I realize that the food choices are a bit 'strange'. I overhead a lot of 'They expect me to eat what? Fish? a Braised Pork Shank? what is that anyway? Where are the steaks and french fries?'. Please people - just go with it for a little while - The food was good. A braised Pork Shank is basically Pork BBQ - it's a large on-the-bone pork chop, cooked until the meat is extremely tender. You eat it with a fork. Very yummy.

Yes,t he food was yummy. That's why we went back. Feral children!?! :rotfl: YOu liked the food enough to put up with the princesses, admit it.

He did what???? That's so rude :headache:

I don't either, I'm mean :rotfl2:

OMG gross :scared:

First time I've heard that :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: Well done

My kids told me I never get htem anything and I don't love them. I aid "good, then I don't have to do anything special for you, sicne I don't love you"...they changed their tune really fast. They will NEVER beat me at the passive-agressive-guilt game. I am a master.

Well, some of the group game locally on a weekly basis (or some other regular basis, I dunno), and those are more like your group. But, this is an annual event with about 10-20 people, and some people travel several hours to get there. There is a defined story for the weekend, and that is pretty much the only thing going on (other than some background food prep). I'm not sure if it is always this way, but when I've been there, there were basically 2 groups, each with their own DM, and at the end, they battle each other. When it started, the group ranged in age from about 20 to 30-something (I remember one guy turning 50 a few years back, but I forget how long ago), and none of us had kids.

Portions of this group now have kids, and we do get together for other events, too, some of which are more kid-friendly than others. Many of this group are also on a listserv email list, which one of the guys started as a way to keep in touch with his family and friends, and it kinda grew over the years. Since the group is spread out all over the country, and in fact, the world, there are also a few more local listservs to organize more local social events. I'm sort of on the fringe of the group - but I do try and get to some social events when I can.

Probably much more than you wanted to know, huh?

Wow. I wish I were still inc ontact wit enough friends to do this. WAAAHHH!!! :sad2:

Pork shank...............mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........

It was Yummy. Mine was better....

Finally someone else who actually liekd the food there!!!! We did to! I just did my review on my TR. At least your Aurora wasn't creepy looking. Watch out for Spencer- he's gonna break some hearts- he's quite the flirt! :)

He's gotta give up his obsession with "girl parts" it's getting embarrassing. We've had some creepy princesses. I need to set aside an afternoon to read your TR, I keep putting it off, because I know i'll get into it....

aww fantastic, looked like you really enjoyed yourself! Brianna looked adorable, and Spencers smile when he saw Jasmine the first time is so cute! :thumbsup2
The moment with Belle looks really magical, especially the first photo, it really shows the excitement!! :)

Spencer was so showing off, like a little man. It was so cute. Both my kids liked the princesses, though Spencer will tell you he hates princesses. I just felt ba, becuase he kept asking when we were having food with Mickey, and I didn't make any reservations for any other character meals except for CRT. I tried, inc ase there were last minute cancellations, but to no avail.

I can't believe people would actually do that:confused3

To quote Stephanie Tanner...HOW RUDE:headache:

I guess it's the same reason Pizzafari doesn't have pizza on the kids menu:confused3

Spencer is now Jim's hero:worship:

:woohoo:

popcorn::

THis made me :rotfl: :lmao:

GReat Full house reference there!

It was weird. The closest they came was grilled fish. They could hae at least had a kids version of that kottajakke (Or however it's spelled) for kids to try. My kids don't eat dinner much, and HHBG and I would have liked tot ry something small yet authentic.

Spencer got bad. We have some pics coming up we had to remove him from.

HHBG, the comedian. He shoudl really be writing this report. He's much better at writing (and observing strangeness) than I am.

You're doing a great job with this trip report! Can't wait for the next installment!! :surfweb:

Hi! Thanks! COming probably tomorrow!

I agree!!

We also play every other Friday 7pm until we get tired (read until my 27 year old cousin whines that she is too tired to keep playing). My cousin's both have young kids and they watch movies and sleep while we play. Our kids play :thumbsup2

Yep. :thumbsup2

Our kids sit on the couch and watch movies or TV with the other guy's kids until his wife gets home, then she comes and picks up her kids, and my kids go to bed. If the kids stay until we're done, we set them all up with blankets and pillows ont eh couch (It's a huge sectional).

Usually, we finish up between 11 adn 12, because we know the kids will get up early, and the others need to drive home.

HHBG wants tot each the kids how to play. He's also teaching my son warcrack. :headache:  it's his reward for doing well at school. he's FIVE!! Bleh.

Wow. I wish I were still in contact with enough friends to do this. WAAAHHH!!! :sad2:

The sad thing is, I wish I had enough friends close enough to see on a regular basis - esp. another couple for dh and me to hang out with, that we both really got along with. My sister and I have discussed this - I live far enough out in the burbs to be a pain to go out and see, but not far enough for it to be a special occassion for me to be in town. Plus, these are my sister's husband's college friends - I get in through my sister. It's funny - I finally got my own identity in the eyes of the founding guy when I sang at one of the annual Hallowe'en parties - until then, I was always R's little sister, it seemed. ;)

My own college friends have mostly scattered - although I did run into the husband and daughter of one of my closest college friends at the library last weekend. It was weird - we hadn't realized that we are in the same library district, because we both live on opposite ends of it, and we have probably missed them by about an hour, every single friggin Saturday of the past year and a half since we moved!

Oh, and I *am* glad to hear good things about Akershus. Tho, who knows if we'll ever get there - dd really hasn't gotten into any more of the princesses lately. Right now, actually, our house is all about Pokemon...

I'm all caught up and ready for more melt downs and cranky pants!

At least your Aurora wasn't creepy looking.

I wish Disney would buy her a new wig...Bret Michael's hair looks better then Aurora's.

The picture of him tweaking Jasmine is one of the funiest things I've ever seen!!:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

The lady at the buffet reminds me of my dear sweet grandma. She's the reason they started putting plastic around jars and bottles at the grocery store. She would open up the salad dressing and poke her finger in it to see if she liked it. If she didn't it went back on the shelf!:scared1:

We've had breakfast at Akershus twice and really enjoyed it.

Chapter 10: Another Shining Example of Parenting Gone Bad.....

Day 3. Monday. HHBG’s phone alarm goes off at 7am. I slept poorly again the night before, so I groan and roll over. HHBG knows I have not been sleeping well and tells me he will go get breakfast and get the kids up while I veg in bed a little longer. He’s so sexy.

After I remind him we bought the kids breakfast food and not to get them too much, HHBG runs down to Roaring fork with the refillable mugs. He comes back with Fruit salad for the kids, a cinnamon roll for himself and a banana for me.....and my much needed morning coke.....ahhhh.....manna from heaven.....coke.....(Insert Homer Simpson like drooling here). We set the kids up with their pop tarts and pull out yesterday’s unfinished chocolate milks and apple juices.

Soon, it is getting late. HHBG gets the kids dressed and ready while I take a shower and get ready. This is where our first problem of the day starts. HHBG decides to let the kids put on their own sunblock UNSUPERVISED. I have no idea what he was doing while they put on their sunblock, as I was in trhe shower, but I came out and Brianna came to show me that she had dome her own sunblock....and she was OUT. Yes, she had used the entire travel-sized tube of sunblock. Spencer came over, and he too, had used his entire tube. I had little grease babies. It was in their hair. It was EVERYWHERE. They looked like butter basted butterball turkeys ready for the oven. Brianna’s hair was SLICKED back, as she had brushed in the sunblock. Spencer had a spikey hair do. It was BAD.

I tried quickly to get them to strip down and take a quick shower to get off the sunblock, btu HHBG had told them that as soon as I was dressed, we were going, so they threw FITS over this suggestion. Not wanting to deal with the hissy fits that early in the morning, and exhausted myself, I decided to be stupid, and just wiped them down as best I could with a wet washcloth and then some Ponds make-up wipes.

Well, I finished getting ready, threw on the CARGOES OF HOLDING +1 and another Disney-themed shirt, and we were off. We rushed off to catch the bus. Spencer was so excited, though, that he rran into an upright. You know, those columns that hold up the roof on the walkway? Apparently, he couldn’t see it. :sad2:

We caught the bus to Epcot, and not 5 minutes after we get going, Brianna is crying that the sunblock is in her eyes. It’s on her hands, too, so when she rubs them she gets more in her eyes. I practically had to restrain her to keep her from rubbign in more sunblock. She refused to listen to me that she was makign it worse and not better. I was wiping her face and hands with wet wipes, but there was so much in her HAIR, it was getting into her eyes from her bangs.

Some bus pics:

DSCN0996.jpg

The instant we got to Epcot, we hightailed it to the bathrooms. I wanted to put her head under the water, but she said it was too cold. I tried to make her, but it was like a cat in a bath. I could NOT get her under the tap, and I was afraid all of her screaming was going to draw security and CPS. We finally compromised with some wet paper towels. I wiped and wiped and wiped at her head to get everything off. I made her wash her hands, too. When we came out of the bathroom, she was fine, though her eyes were still red.

Outside the bathrooms (which, by the way Jordan, were very clean and quiet...just sayin’)

Walkign to the gates. Soo cute.
DSCN0998.jpg

Someone ruined the cute. We should have left....
DSCN1000.jpg

Because of this little incident we, again, just missed rope drop. Well, we still rushed off to Soarin’. By the time we got there, the line was already up to 30 minutes, but we didn’t care, we got in line. Brianna was TICKED we were draggign her along when she wanted to buy something, and let her displeasure be known. She really decided to use her eyes as an excuse to make everyone around her miserable.

HHBG left me to deal with her and try to get the sunblock out of her eyes (How much could be left?? I had cleaned her entire head 3 or 4 times at that point!!). I really felt bad for the people in line behind us. They really tried to cheer her up. She would smile and dance for them, then as soon as she wasn’t the center of their attention, she went back to the cryign and whining.

Well, it was finally our turn. We were in the back row, which was fine with us. Brianna had stopped grumping, so we hooked the kids in and stored their crocs. The ride was great. Being in the back, you really feel like your feet are goign to hit the things you are flying over. It was a great experience.

Walking out.
DSCN1001.jpg

When we got off the ride, we decided to get fast passes for later. While I did that, HHBG tried to get a follow up on the picture from last year. This is the best we got.

DSCN1002.jpg

Oh well, we were planning on coming back....right??

With fast passes in hand, we walked over to wait in the Test track stand by line. Listed wait: 30 minutes. Actual wait: an ETERNITY. Brianna wanted to be carried the whole time. My back was screaming from it. HHBG wouldn’t carry her. She was whining. HHBG threatened her a f ew times tot ake her ack to the hotel. Why do we change out parenting when we go away? In normal circumstances, she NEVER would have gotten so many chances to start behaving. I’m sure the people around us were not very happy with us having the little whining cryign child with us. I apoloise to anyoen who was in Epcot that day.

Brianna Finally let me put her down as we were about to get on the ride. A woman and her grand kid had been waiting in the single rider line, and they put HHBG with Spencer and the grandma in one row of the car and Brianna and I with the girl in the next row. Spencer started to whine againt hat it was his turn to ride with mommy, so I offered to the grandmother and girl that I would ride with both kids if they wanted to ride together. They were very grateful to be together, and we avoided yet another tantrum with my kids. Win-win there.

The kids loved test track, and we added the pics to our photopass (which I still have to order....oops).

After we got off of TT, I decided that I needed an ice cream. I was exhausted, not feeling well, and my back hurt from carrying Brianna. So, I got everyone some ice cream, and we went and sat on a bench.

Well, we were right by the dancing fountains. The kids saw them. Spencer wanted to go play in the fountains, and I decided it was hot and dry enough that he would dry off pretty quickly. I pulled off his tee shirt and let him go play. He had a great time. Sometimes it’s the simplest things that make the kids the happiest. Some pics:

Fountain time!! Starting off a little hesitantly:
DSCN1007.jpg

Woah!
DSCN1008.jpg

OOH! This is fun!!
DSCN1012-1.jpg

Brianna decided she wanted to get wet too....now her dress is made of denim adnhad a few layers to it, and. I was worried about her drying off, but HHBG pointed out that it would probably get the rest of the sunblock out of her eyes, and Spencer was in there already, so I reluctantly said OK.

DSCN1014.jpg

Oh, the anticipation:
DSCN1015.jpg

It’s Wet!! I’ll stay back.
DSCN1021.jpg

After the fountains, we took the kids into the rest room to dry them off some with some paper towels. Brianna said her eyes didn’t hurt anymore, which was great. Also, I would give the bathroom by TT and the fountain a 2 flush rating. Very clean, but somewhat noisy and crowded from the wet kids.

Next, it was off to Spaceship Earth. The kids LOVED this ride. It was Spencer’s favorite. In the line,w e saw some more peeps. I tried to get a pic. This is the best I did Brianna kept refusing to turn around.:
DSCN1023.jpg

OMG! I forgot about this one! HHBG doing the Peeps sign:
DSCN1025.jpg

B was still doing lots of grumping and wanting to be carried. That was her big thing this trip: wanting to be carried. It got very tiresome very quickly. HHBG and I even considered renting one of those evil strollers, but we didn’t. We just told her to walk or we would leave so she could rest. We are MEAN.

The kids had another fight over whose turn it was to sit with me. They fought the entire wait for the ride. Fortunately, she was in her very adorable Queen of Hearts dress, so people were more interested in how cute she was as opposed to what a brat she was being. I got at least 5 or 6 compliments just in the Spaceship earth line.

Finally, it’s time to get on the ride. Brianna has been grumping all day, so HHBG says she has to go with him and hauls her onto the ride with him. I don’t know what he said to her, because she started off wailing, and was quickly quiet for the rest of the ride.

We created our future world, and the ride was over.

We checked the time, and decided we had time to go Soarin’ one more time before lunch, so it was back to the land we went. The posted stand by line at that point was 105 MINUTES!! DUDE! Thank goodness we had fast passes.

We got in the fast pass line, and were relatively quickly on the ride (I think the wait was about 10-15 minutes). This time,w e were in the front row. We flew over California again, and enjoyed ourselves again. This is a great ride. It was one of my kids’ favorites.

It was interesting to compare the front row with the back row on Soarin’. Inthe front row, it was easier to get intot he experience. There were no feet above you, and you are really close to the screen. In the back row, there are feet, but I felt like the experience was a little more exciting. You feel like you are RIGHT on top of the water and going to nick the mountains. It doesn’t feel that way in the front. I wouldn’t say I liked either better, but I would say, if you have the chance, try both. It’s a different experience and very interesting.

We got off Soarin’, got the pic, and it was time for lunch.

Oh, and I *am* glad to hear good things about Akershus. Tho, who knows if we'll ever get there - dd really hasn't gotten into any more of the princesses lately. Right now, actually, our house is all about Pokemon...

Be thankful. I am getting sick of princesses.

I'm all caught up and ready for more melt downs and cranky pants!

I wish Disney would buy her a new wig...Bret Michael's hair looks better then Aurora's.

You must be loving this update if you like the cranky pants. :sad2:

And I agree about the princess's hair. Aurora and Pocahontas are the worst. :sad2:

The picture of him tweaking Jasmine is one of the funiest things I've ever seen!!:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

I agree, it's a hysterical picture, that I intend to blackmail him with. pirate:

Thanks for THAT visual.

I love Akershus. :confused3 I would prefer it without the princesses, though. I want to go just for hte food.

At least the kids weren't resisiting sunscreen....

It's amazing how once you have children your idea of sexy changes so drastically!:rotfl2: I tell my dh all the time, if you want to turn me on.....do the dishes!:thumbsup2

I'm sorry, but I had a good laugh over your description of trying to get the sunscreen off of Brianne in the bathroom! I've washed a cat before and it's hilarious!

Wow! Dude! You had a heck of a morning!!
hug.gif
Briannas dress was really cute! Did you make that one?
Stinks about the sunscreen fiasco..I would have just wiped them up and go also, you can see Briannas eys are a little red..Annie loved the fountain pictures. she said Spencer looks like Ben at her school.
We have the same problem with the kids and who they get to go with..always wanted Daddy..
hooboy.gif

I cant wait to go with out the kids!!! And NO I will not miss them!! Maybe Annie on Small World..its her favorite..

At least the kids weren't resisiting sunscreen....

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Just the opposite, actually. We have been very strict about sunscreen since they were born. Just look at my little pale son int he fountain pics....of course he's DARKER than his father!! :faint:

I told HHBG the sexiest thing he can do is take care of the kids when they are in a mood. :thumbsup2

I have washed a cat, too. It was a nearly identical experience. I just kept chanting in my head "14 more years....14 more years..." :rotfl2:

Wow! Dude! You had a heck of a morning!!

I bought the dress from a fellow DISer. I believe she also bought it. She made a different utfit for Brianna that will pop up later.

THe problem was tht it was in her hair. SO no matter how much I wiped her face, when her hair escaped the barrettes, it got in her eyes. :sad2:

I will miss HHBG. The kids, not so muich, because Iknow they'll have a great time with MIL.

At least they didn't get burnt :rotfl2: Can I assume you were in charge of suncream after that :lmao:

I love B's dress so pretty and those fountains are fun aren't they :)

That funny about the sunblock. I never remember to put it on the kids. :confused3

What is Spaceship Earth like? I'm too chicken to go on it-worried I'll get sick.

These is a great trip report. I have 4 kids and know the meaning of meltdown. My biggest fear is what would evryone think of me when I'm the mad mom running after my kids telling them to stop. Then I realized that no kid is perfect evry parent went though the same meltdowns, fits, tantrums as we did. My experience with the meltdowns will be coming up in June. OHHH Goody!! Are we there yet? Keep writing i am at work and had to stop work just so I can finish SHHHH:rolleyes1 Dont tell my boss.

Love the dresses. You daughter is adorable.

Sunscreen in the eyes - ick. Ds did that once at camp last year, and we ended up having to come and get him! (It was also Friday, end of the first full week of camp, so he was pretty exhausted, too.)

What is it about Epcot and tantrums?

Glad to see B cheered up later - I had remembered the 2nd Soarin measuring pic, from your preview, and was wondering how you got it, when I saw the 1st one!

Oh, and btw, it is weird for both my kids to be obsessing about the same thing at the same time. I am sure that if I were to schedule another WDW trip, dd would happily go back to Disney obsessions, but she is still on Tink & Cinderella...

Which bathrooms are those.....? The ones by the entrance(on the outside) on the right if you're facing Spaceship Earth?
