Pre-Cruise Day Friday, March 31
We left 10 minutes late and the traffic was rough getting onto I-75 so that by the time we were on it we were over 30 minutes behind schedule. The construction in South Georgia was like running a maze AND IT WAS DARK. On coming headlights were very stressful all the way to Ocala. (Best Western I’d use it next time too.) We were in our rooms by 11:00 and DH was asleep in an instant!!

I will refer to my DDs as DD1, DD2, DD3, and DD4 (14, 12, 8, & 6)

Day 1, Saturday, April 1, 2006
DH and I both awoke earlier than planned. (6:15-6:30) We got ready then woke the DDs. The older 2 grumbled but we ignored them. We dressed and headed down to the breakfast. (Yuck!) Headed back to the room and brushed teeth, grabbed our stuff and headed out before 8:00. We had to get gas before heading on south/southeast. Traffic was not a problem and we were at the port by about 10:10. Folks we still leaving.
WE GOT A NUMBER 3!!!!!!!!!!! FOR BOARDING!!!
Checked-in in 10 minutes. The girls were restless waiting so long. I wondered around and stumbled on where they were registering the kids and got the DD3&4 their armbands, the beeper and stuff added to DD2’s KTTW card so she could check herself in/out. Took them back to dad and sat a few minutes. I too was restless so I walked down to the boarding area and saw that they were boarding cat 1-3. SO I hurried back to family who were near the restrooms!!! And reported my findings. In an instant, they called for people with 1s and 2s. We began to gather our carry-ons (too much stuff) and moved down that way. In under 5 minutes 3s & 4s were called and we were on board BY 11:45?!. I mentioned needing to change a Palo ressie they sent me in the correct direction and family headed up to deck 9 Mickey. I asked for a Monday Brunch and had my choice of times SO TO ALL WHO COULD NOT GET PALO ON-LINE, JUST GET TO THE PORT EARLY. I stopped by dinning and talked to Zan checking on Rachel’s DD4 Bday cake for tonight.

When I found family they were in the corner table near the Mickey Pool and the Drink station. We got food in shifts at Topsiders (I got a salad and a fruit tart!) and DDs3&4 jumped in. I even changed and got a little wet too.
I zoomed to our cabins at 1:30 and set up some surprises for the girls. I went back to get family BUT DH wanted to take pictures before we took the girls!!!
Suit cases started arriving @2:00 BUT THE LAST CAME AFTER 5:00! (my hot rollers were in it.) AND IT SEEMED I HAD LEFT OUT DHs 4 tropical shirts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The sail away was fun. We were on deck 9 for most but went up to deck 10 to watch the ship go out to sea. Then we ran to get ready for dinner at 5:45.

We were in Parrot Cay for the first night. Dobi and Jay were our servers. They were great. Jay poured DDs3 & 4 ketchup in the design of Mickey’s 3 circle head. I requested PC/L/AP two weeks earlier and MAYBE because of the switch, we were in the back corner near the kitchen. I did not like our table locations in all three. BUT I am glad we had Dobi and Jay. Dinner was good. We all had taken the non-drowsy med in the AM but we all noticed the ships movement at dinner.

We went by the Kids Programs and looked around.

Went to the show. ANDY FORD (from the UK) – 1st time on a DCL ship. Tears were running down my face. He was sooo funny. ( Note to self don’t miss his shows later in week.)

Went to cabin, finished unpacking, met Maurice our room steward. Took a second dose of Dizzy meds as DD4 called it.
Went to bed!

Melanie,
I enjoyed your first report. I have 3 girls (9 and twin 5-year olds). I would love your perspective on things not-to-be missed by them.
Thanks,
Cindy

I can't wait to read more!!! Keep them coming! Did you park at the port, if so-how was it? Thanks for the report-Ginny :thumbsup2

Looking forward to reading more of your TR!!! :thumbsup2

Thank-you for saying that!! I haven't been able to book Palos on line and have been very worried about getting in! I plan on arriving very early, so hopefully I will be able to reserve a brunch. :)

Take them to the programs ASAP. Mine really all loved their age groups. If you are dong a 7 nighter+ plan some down time because they can't keep going and going. Rachel just 6 on 3/31, did not like the comedy/variety acts at all. (1st and last nights)

Yes we did and it was soooo easy. We parked 50 feet from the terminal!!! DH dropped off 'us' and luggage and went to park. When I saw where he parked I was very surprised. It made it easy when we returned.

thanks for the trip report, I am looking forward to reading them all. I was watching two palms the day your ship sailed, dreaming of the day we will sail.... So I was glad to see someone posted a trip report from the 4/1 sailing. :sunny:
