Mom worried about St. John Island Tour...

She is almost 70 years old and worried about the 5 hour length...will it be too long to sit? Will the seats be uncomfortable in the open air taxi? Will there be any snacks available? Does the taxi stop at all for them to walk around? What can you see on the tour beside beaches? Will it be too hot or too windy? Any details to ease her mind...or help her decide to pick another excursion...would be very much appreciated!

I am just back from the 3/22 Magic cruise, and my husband and I did the St. John's Island Tour. I thought it was good, and we did have an older lady with us, and she was using a cane to walk. The driver was so nice with helping on and off the taxi. The seats I thought were comfortable, and even though it was warm that day the open taxi gave you a nice breeze as you rode. Also the views of the island from up high in the hills were well worth the trip. It is such a beautiful place. We also stopped at a beach area so we could go to the bathroom and get some refreshments if you wanted to. Also stopped at an old sugar plantation ruins, they were very interesting. I think your mom will be ok, and the boat ride over is beautiful and informative. Hope you have a great trip, ours was awesome, and perfect!!

Thanks, I needed that report also because I am trying hard to talk my Mom (74) into joining me and DS on a side trip there! I think she will feel better knowing that there are rest stops along the way (I know I feel better about that already!)

I've done this tour as well. Rae as you know I walk with cane even though I'm not old (mid 30's). My body just sometimes thinks its old. I would think your mom would do just fine. We really enjoyed it. I don't remember the bus ride as being overly jarring and the scenery was absolutely lovely!

Great! I will definately reasssure her that she will have a great time! Another question about this excursion...Was there plenty of time to leisurely shop afterwards?
Thanks!
Ann

Now hearing all that from you, dear Tiiiigergirl, and knowing that you know us so well - I think I'll be able to get Mom on that tour!
She was quite impressed with you, you know! It's not an age thing about disability - she's 74 and healthier than both of us put together!!!!!!!

You do very well with your condition and believe me, it's not easy for someone so very young to have challenges of mobility. God blesses you in many ways, and your sparkling personality is just one of them!

Our excursion was in the afternoon, so we did our shopping in St. Maartins in the morning. There was not any time to shop after the excursion in St. Johns, but there was not alot there to look at as far as shopping goes. I would think that if your excursion is in the morining you will have enough time to shop in the afternoon before you sail. St. Maartins has one main street with shops, and I would say 2/3 of them are jewelry stores, so if you are not looking for jewelry you will have plenty of time to shop. We even had time to rent a couple of chairs and an umbrella and sat on the beach for an hour or so. I am so happy that now I can return all the information to others that was so nicely given to me before our trip. I hope this helps you, and if you have anymore questions just ask away!!

I am so sorry. I got all confused on that last post. I did'nt mean St. Maartins, I should have said St. Thomas. So please replace St. Maartins, with St. Thomas. Our St. Johns tour was in the morning, so we shopped in St. Thomas in the afternoon! We had about 2 1/2 hours to shop, and we did make it to town by taxi, we had to find the Hard Rock Cafe for a shirt I wanted to get for my youngest daughter, who is 22. But, like in St. Maartins, there are alot of jewerly shops there also. We did find several shops with nice souvenirs. We did'nt have time to take the walk up to Blackbeard's monument, but maybe next time. Also, it was very hot that day, and the humidity was high!! I hope I have not confused you to much!!

mowanda - we're parents too, we understand the confusion!!!!
No problem!!!!

Aww Shucks Rae you're making me blush!

We would have had time for shopping but I had a hair appointment. What a gorgeous view for a salon. Sure wish my local salon had a view like that!

On the December cruise, the best night for sunset was the night I had my hair cut on the ship! At least Tom took some nice pictures, but still.......that sunset would have been better!!!

You are worth the compliments, dear Tiiiigergirl!
