"Mom, this is like a whole new Disney!" New 7/30 - pg 43 - Final Thoughts & PTR Link

After a great dinner we decided to take a walk outside to check out the savannah. We walked through the pool area & saved a little toddler from running into a hot tub. Her mother was nowhere around. Karen scooped her up and returned her to her frantic mother just a minute later. How scary for that mom! The savannah was lovely, but not quite as nice as I expected... I guess I was surprised to see actual fences since they camouflage the barriers so well at AK.

On our way to the savannah:

We made our way back into Jambo House and explored the lobby a bit:

We also stopped at the gift shop (Zawadi) and bought a few things. I picked up these pictures, but haven’t framed them yet, because I’m still trying to figure out where to put them.

My bathroom really needs some art work & a face lift… I could go with an Animal Kingdom theme, but I’m afraid the pictures will get ruined with the moisture. What do you think? I could also put them in our half-bath, which is already painted beige and there wouldn’t be as much of a moisture issue.

Jeff also bought something for each of the kiddos. I picked up a bracelet for my friend, Laura. Gramma bought the boys each another pin. They kids were eyeing the instruments but I quickly put the kibosh on that! One flute was enough for this trip!

When we finished shopping we headed back to Vistana. My notes show that we paid for dinner right around 6:00 so it was still pretty early. I took Zach over to the pool for a swim… but we discovered it was movie night. They had a giant blow up movie screen set up next to the pool and were getting ready to start The Princess & The Frog. They also had popcorn and smores kits for sale. We bought a smores kit and sat by the fire they had set up and toasted a few marshmallows. I think Tim & Jeff must have gone to play basketball with Alex. I don’t know where everyone else was… I think everyone eventually made it to the pool. After the kids went to bed we were back at the hot tubs. Nancy joined us at first, then she went back to Tim could come soak his feet again. Luckily we had already been there a while so we were pretty pruney when some possibly drunk, definitely loud people arrived. There were two hot tubs and both were pretty full. When the loud people got there there really wasn’t room for four more people in either hot tub. Instead of waiting, they asked if we were together and if so, could we squeeze in closer together. It was just strange… we were all together and already sitting fairly close together, but I don’t want to sit on my brother-in-laws lap in a hot tub… and K was with us too… I don’t think she wanted to be squeezed in with all of us… it was probably bad enough that she had to be in the same hot tub with us. We just decided we were done and headed back to the condo. It was nice to get to bed at a reasonable hour that night. We slept well!

Daily recap: We got to visit Epcot, but I had a meltdown. We got to see Sergio, but Alex was pretty much the only one who didn’t get in the show! The boys finished their WS masks. We broke Test Track, but finally got to ride. We ended the day with a great meal at Boma, a little shopping and some toasted marshmallows.

Up next: A day of R & R!

The dinosaur puppet is very cute! Glad Alex was content with getting a new set of markers, so you could enjoy some more Epcot time!

As you know we :lovestruc Boma! So happy to hear everyone loved their meal there! Isn't the AKL just beautiful???

That is strange about the hot tub! Some people! :sad2:

The dinosaur puppet is all tangled up, sitting on my dresser, waiting for me to figure out how to untangle it! :headache:

AKL was gorgeous!! Don't get me wrong... I really enjoyed the savannah, I just thought the enclosures would be more subtle like at AK. I was quite tempted to stay there when we got the crazy Obtiz deal for this fall... if it were more centrally located or we were planning to visit AK I would have been all over it! Especially if I were traveling with my family - the kids would love it... at least Zach... Alex is scared of most animals.

Yes - the hot tub was strange... I can only assume they had had too much to drink. :confused3

another really terrific update! LOVE  ur pics of animal kingdom lodge ... its such a spectacularly beautiful resort and i ALWAYS have a trip to BOMA on my ADR list! :thumbsup2 Im not a super adventurous eater either but i always find something new and unique i like at Boma.
sounds like you had a fun day and HOORAY for FINALLY getting on test track! on my january trip, test track was down for refurb and i was TOTALLY bummed :headache:
that is a weird story about the hot tub, yeah, who wants to squeeze closer together with a bunch of half naked people?!

Amy,

glad you got to see Sergio and had a great spot to view it...too bad Alex didn't get picked for anything...

so Boma was good but just not appealing to your tastebuds :confused3

great family group shot :thumbsup2

At least your boys weren't being physical about the ball! I love the pictures you bought! I think they would be cute in your downstairs bathroom, then you wouldn't have to worry about moisture and more people would see them as I'm assuming that's the "guest" bathroom? But-I do have some pictures hanging in our upstairs bathroom and they have been fine. I love Boma! I would love to try it for dinner sometime but I still am not feeling adventureous enough! It is a must for us for breakfast everytime! :)

Replies later... Heading out for a super special DIS-meet with the whole family this morning!! :cool1:

Hi Amy!:goodvibes YAY for finally getting to ride Test Track!!:yay: You got some really beautiful pictures at AKL. I really wish we would have had more time to explore when we went for breakfast last year.:sad2: Hopefully, I can talk my guys into trying it for dinner next trip!:thumbsup2 Oh..and I love the pictures that you bought! I'm not sure about the moisture issue.:confused3 I have some pictures hanging in our bathroom and they have been okay. I think an Animal Kingdom theme would be a great idea!:)

This was all of our first time at AKL & it didn't disappont! :thumbsup2

We always have trouble with Test Track - especially when Jeff is with us. :confused3 Luckily we got to take a ride before we left since this was our last Epcot visit for the trip.

The puppet is adorable.
AKL is so beautiful

The puppets were all very cute! But the big ones were expensive so Zach settled for a little one. But like most stuffed animals, this one hasn't been played with since May. :sad2:

Boma was an amazing buffet. Everyone loved it & they all think it's the best buffet they've experienced at WDW! The salads & other sides didn't really appeal to me, but I had plenty to eat & wasn't going to go too far out of my comfort zone due to my tummy issues.

It would have gotten physical fast if I hadn't stepped in!

We live in a ranch so our two bathrooms are both on the same floor. ;) We had one full bath for the whole house when we moved in (so not a master bedroom bath) and added the half bath when we put on an addition in 2004/2005. Guests generally use the half bath since it's right off our livingroom and the full bath is near the bedrooms.

Maybe we'll check out Boma for breakfast sometime.

I can see where it would be hard to explore a resort at breakfast time... especially if you are in a hurry to get to the parks! But it is gorgeous and you should check it out sometime. We try to add a new resort restaurant every visit since we usually stay off-site. We have our car so it's easy & it may be the only way we get to see many of the resorts.

The pictures would probably be fine in glass...

Today I got to experience my first DIS-meet... right here in NH!

MRYPPNS (Heidi) & family were planning to visit the special Exploring Our Way event at the Children's Museum of NH so we decided to visit as well! We've been there many times & attended the Exploring Our Way events a couple times too. I think this was Heidi's family's second visit. Heidi - I assume it's OK to post these pictures since you post them on your reports...

DH & my boys (notice the crank... they were cranking up the balls):

Heidi's DH & Liam (notice the tracks up by the ceiling... after cranking the balls they would run down the track, then down the tracks on the wall):

Danica (the balls would then run down this table - Danica was mesmerized by this & was giggling as the balls came down... so cute!!):

It was really fun!! We didn't get to spend too much time together since the kiddos were running all over the place, but this part was really fun when they played together! It was so nice to meet Heidi & family & maybe we'll get to see them again at Disney in February!

Sorry I was behind on your report, but I am here now. Looks like you had a great camping weekend!!

Sergio looks like fun. The "trying to steal the ball, you yelling no" is a classic vacation picture. That always happens with kids doesn't it?

Great photopass pictures.

It was great that Test Track was open. So glad that Alex was ok with you buying markers etc for him to have at dinner.

So sorry you were having tummy issues and had to play it safe .

Wow, I love the pictures you bought :thumbsup2. They are beautiful. Hmm they would look great in our bathroom too. Now you have me thinking. Was the price reasonable?

You got to see Heidi, what a great meet. Aww the picture of Zach and Danica, too cute. The kids look so cute together.

Wow I come home to a gaint update and our DISmeet too cool.

Love the pencil case that you got at Mousegears....might have to look for that for me!

We're going to do the Boma breakfast next trip....it's one of the few non-character buffets.....I'm planning it for our water park day so we can spend some time looking at the animals.

It was so great to meet you today! The boys were so cute too looking for my kids with the gift bags. Thank you again for the wonderful prizes for Liam and Danica....They LOVED all the stuff....that was very thoughtful of you!!!! We'll have to meet again soon without the kiddos and swap plans for Feb/March.

Oh and I got a Mango flavored Dole Whip at that ice cream shop.....second visit and they still didn't have the pineapple one.....maybe next month.

I love those prints! An AK themed bathroom would be VERY cool Amy. I think it's neat that you got to have a Dis meet. :) Looks fun!

I'm subbing in super late over here. But very much enjoyed what you have written so far. but hey you already are planning two more trips, so now I won't miss out on those.

We actually met on the disboards like a year ago or less. I was planning a ptr that didn't happen. But am happy to report we are finally getting our disney trip. My 5 yo has mild autism. My 2 yo is so far neurotypical, but I watch him like a hawk, and he does exhibit some minor traits, but so far manageable.

I'm reading along and going yep, that is how I figure my son will be, so this is a great read for me. I'll have to ask more about the GAC as we get closer to our trip.

Your boys are adorable. Glad you finally were able to get the diagnosis for your younger son so you can get him services. I think that is the hardest thing. I've been bombarded with paperwork and transporting our son all this summer for the new school program he is going to be apart of this upcoming year.

How many trips have your boys taken to WDW? They seemed to handle everything quite well.

We have noise reducing headphones too, I know you used them for the fireworks, but did you use them on any rides?

Can't wait to read more...:)

How neat that you were able to meet up with Heidi and family! The pictures of the kids playing together are just precious!!!

Hey! Way to go for Sergio! He is fun! We saw him a few trips ago, too, he reminded me of the boardwalk performers! Score for new markers and such! My DS's have to have "stuff" at dinner, too.... ;) Great way to divert the situation! I agree with you on the fencing at the AKL and Villas... it is hard to keep it 100% aesthetic I guess.. it is all about safety for the animals as well as resort goers... Still, it is really neat to see these animals up close and in your back yard! Seems like the day went well, Boma is a great choice, we have not been in a while, but I hope we can try it again next trip.

HOW cool you got a DISmeet in! How exciting! Even brief, it is fun to meet people you practically get to know so very well on the DIS!

wow I was behind!

Boma :thumbsup2 on the buffet, what a bummer you couldn't eat much, the soups are amazing!

Smart move on just buying more markers.

Toddler Save. How lucky you were there!

Hot tub squisher-inners....That's bold. I would never in a million years think to ask. Reminds me of two scary flight stories I just heard. People boggle my mind at times. I mean really, how "together" could 4 people be????

DISmeet with Heidi. How much fun! I can only imagine how nuts between the 4 of them at their different ages, I remember outings like that and they were exhausting and not much time for chatting. Fun but...whoa.

I could eat up Danica though :goodvibes so cute!
