Mom & Son Eat the World Part 2 - Updated 1/20 Breakfast at POP & Cost Summary

We had an early morning flight on Christmas morning. Everything went perfectly with the flight, ME & check-in at POP. Our room was ready and exactly where I wanted! :cool1:

We headed over to EPCOT and ran into a mass of people! So what did we do? Hit the Ditch, of course!

Thanks to the Dis, I knew that there was a margarita flight on the menu. Our server told us that it was removed for the holidays but since I asked for it, he would make it up for me!

I am sorry to say that I cannot remember that they all were! I know DH and I both liked the blood orange one the best ... followed closely for me by the avocado one!

DS needed something while we sampled so we also ordered guacamole with chips -

img_0318.jpg

This was delicious guacamole! Definitely an enjoyable snack!

I didn't realize until I was looking at my recipts to do this review that we were not charged for the guacamole. Total for the margarita flight was $19.17. Well worth it for sure!

For some reason I cannot get the links to work so I will just have to put the page numbers next to the restaurants on page 1. Frustrating. Maybe it is a system glitch and it will work for me tomorrow.

Anywho ... on to lunch and the first meal of our deluxe dining plan. I will add the cost at the end and the menu descriptions from Allears when I can!

Lunch was at Rose & Crown -- DH's only real request of the trip.

We all had iced teas plus DH had a Guinness and I had my first Welsh Dragon!

img_0336.jpg

For appetizers, DS had the Scotch Egg - Golden-fried Hard-boiled Egg wrapped in Sausage Meat with Mustard Sauce

img_0337.jpg

I had the Mixed Greens - with warm Bread Croutons, crispy Bacon, Roasted Onions, Irish Cheddar, and warm Bacon Vinaigrette

img_0338.jpg

And DH had Rose and Crown Meat & Cheese Selection for Two - English-style Cheese and Sausages with individual accompaniments

img_0339.jpg

We all shared everything. All were delicious, especially the scotch egg. First time DS has tried one and he loved it!

One thing we didn't realize before the trip is that all of the restaurants in EPCOT were serving dinner all day, no lunch menus. Being on the dining plan, it didn't really matter to us money-wise but we had reviewed the lunch menus beforehand and DS was disappointed he couldn't get the corned beef sandwich!

But he tried the Fish and Chips - Battered fresh Cod served with English Chips

img_0341.jpg

And LOVED them! First time he has eaten any type of fish other than tilapia. He liked them so much we had to get them from the CS place later in the week (for some reason I didn't take a pic then so I am mentioning it here).

I had Bangers and Mash - Traditional English Sausages with Braised Cabbage and Bacon served with Mashed Potatoes and Shallot Gravy

img_0342.jpg

And DH had Cottage Pie - Ground Beef with Onions, Carrots, and Green Peas topped with Duchess Potatoes

img_0343.jpg

Everything was very, very good! And as full as we were, we were on vacation and it was Christmas Day so we had to at least sample dessert!

For DS, the Sticky Toffee Pudding

img_0344.jpg

For me, the Lemon Pie

img_0345.jpg

and for DH, the No Sugar Added Fruit Trifle

img_0346.jpg

All were very good but the Sticky Toffee Pudding was absolutely to die for! We all agreed to try different things but I really wish DS and I each had our own!

I don't have the receipt with the alcohol broken out. Total for lunch including the two drinks that were not included on the dining plan was $128.32. DH's beer was $8.00 and my Welsh Dragon with the souvenier glass was $9.50. Definitely an expensive lunch but hey, we are on the dining plan!

For dinner, we went to Il Mulino and paid out of pocket. Christmas dinner seemed the time to treat ourselves!

First up was the delicious bread with the salami and eggplant spread

img_0351.jpg

And a surprise, complimentary champagne toast for DH and I for our anniversary!

img_0358.jpg

For appetizers, I had one of my favorite all time things - Carpaccio Di Carne - Thinly Sliced Tuscan-Style Beef served with Arugula, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Fresh Lemon Juice.

img_0357.jpg

DS had Tortellini en Brodo Soup (not on Allears menu)

img_0355.jpg

and DH had Parmigiano Reggiano for Two - Aged parmesan Cheese

img_0356.jpg

My carpaccio was absolutely fabulous! The cheese was odd. It went very, very well with the bottle of wine we had but we expected something other than lumps of cheese on a plate.

For dinner, I had a special of the evening - a buffalo short rib with parsnip puree and brussel sprouts. I love short ribs and eat them often when we go out. The funny thing is that I missed the "buffalo" part when the waiter told us the special! DH didn't say anything until after the meal. I didn't notice any different taste from beef --- these were tender, lean & delicious!

img_0359.jpg

DS had one of his all time favs - Spaghetti Carbonara - Spaghetti with Pancetta, Cheese and Egg

img_0362.jpg

DH had Vitello Parmigiana - Pounded, Breaded Veal with Fresh Tomato Sauce and Italian Cheese

img_0360.jpg

Everything was wonderful!

I forgot to mention, our main waiter was Fabiano and his assitant was Matthew. Both were excellent. Service was terrific!

On to dessert and the complimentary limincello

img_0366.jpg

No dessert for DH, he finished up the wine. DS had Tartufo - Italian Gelato encased in Chocolate and served with Whipped Cream and Zabaglione

img_0363.jpg

and I had Frutti Di Bosco Con Zabaglione - Mixed Berries coated with Marsala Zabaglione

img_0364.jpg

Everything was wonderful. All in all a truly delicious meal with impeccable service. Total with a nice bottle of wine (I am sorry I didn't write down what we had) was $197.03 out of pocket. Well worth every penny!

Wow, that went by quick! Can't wait to hear all about it

Way too quick! So much planning and it's over in a flash!

Thank you for the well wishes! Still have the evil cold. In fact I think it has gotten worse over the past two days. But it didn't put too much of a damper on the trip!

Wow - Day 1 sounded and looked great. Can't wait to see more!!!

It was the first of many great food days! We didn't really have a "miss" meal this trip! :woohoo:

Wow, your margarita flight at the Ditch looks great.:thumbsup2 I wish you remembered what they all were but they all look delicious. And you couldnt beat the price. :cool1:

I wonder if they changed the chips they serve now with the guacamole? Other reviews have shown them with wagon wheel type chips. Either way though the guacamole looks yummy. :goodvibes

Looking forward to more reviews. :)

Yeah, it was odd. $8.00. We definitely expected something different. Like I said, it was tasty with the wine but so strange to just have lumps of cheese on the plate.

Loved the Welsh Dragon! Had another later in the week! ; )

The margarita flight at the Ditch looks great ... I wonder why they would discontinue it at the holidays? I'm never going to understand the Disney Drink & Dining Collective.

Interesting that you had chips with your guacamole ... we were given weird wagon-wheel thingees that looked like funions or some such thing.

Very glad to read that you enjoyed dinner at Il Mulino!!! :goodvibes

Does anyone know or do you know if you can get the Margarita flight at San Angel Inn with a meal? I have to have food with my drink or :crazy2: :lmao:
Thanks so much for posting keep the great reviews coming!

Holy smokes, what amazing updates! I love the look of the tequila flight...I had my first tequila drink ever at SAI in November and it was amazing!

I definetly have to put R&C on the lineup for our next trip, it looks and sounds like something we would LOVE!

And your dinner at Il Mulino....we ate there in Oct and we both fell head over heels for the place....just incredible!

I need to try that margarita flight next trip, I know that the blood orange one is yummy, but they all look delicious. That guacamole is still on my "need to try" list too.
