Mom & Son eat the World! 11 days of DDP with tons of pics! Now Complete!

Excellent report and pictures. Sorry your son got sick at the end, but at least it was at the end of the trip, eh? :goodvibes

THANK YOU all for the kind words on our reviews (and to the lurkers for reading :goodvibes ). I passed on your sympathies to DS and he thanks everyone for caring!

Ok so here is our summary for the best of what we ate. I don't think we can really do a worst other than the meals we had at Yak & Yeti and Tony's. We had so many wonderful things that it was hard to even pick the best.

Best Breakfast Food
DS - Tonga Toast at Kona
Me - Ohana's scrambled eggs

Best Bread
DS - Jiko's Honey Wheat Bread
Me - The Wave's bread with sea-salted butter
(Tutto Italia's basket was a very close 2nd for both of us)

Best Soup
DS - Le Cellier's Cheddar Cheese Soup
Me - The Wave's Potato Leek
(Honorable mention to Sopa Azteca at San Angel)

Best Appetizer
We both agree on the Brown Derby's Short rib appy
(Tutto's Antipasta Platter is a close 2nd)

Best Entree
DS - California Grille's Lamb
Me - Jiko's Braised Short Ribs

Best Side
We both agree on the Le Cellier Mushroom Risotto but for 2nd
DS - Ohana Noodles
Me - 50's Prime Time Mashed Potatoes

Best Dessert
DS - Ohana's Bread Pudding
Me - Cheesecake at Spoodles
(Coral Reef's Chocolate Wave was a close 2nd for both of us)

Best Snack
DS - Chocolate Chip Cookie from Main Street Bakery
Me - Dark Chocolate Covered Caramel Pretzel from the Candy Shoppe on Main Street (no pics so I didn't mention it in the reviews, a bad oversignt)

That's all the best of categorys that we can think of. If anyone has any other thoughts/questions, let us know and we will answer!

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip full of delicious meals!

Makes me wish we had DxDDP for our trip!

Thanks for sharing :)

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this food report. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into it. I looks like you and your son had a great trip and your information is really helpful.:cheer2:

Dinner was at the Biergarten, one of our favorites. I didn't take any pictures because the family we were sat with was just not very friendly and DS was a bit embarrassed. We both loved the Schnitzel Wiener Art (Breaded Pork Schnitzel Vienna Style), Spaetzle, Sauerbraten (Marinated Pot Roast) and
Potato Dumplings with Bread Crumb Butter. The Potato soup was also very good and they had pretzel bread to dip into it! Yum! In hindsight, I shouldn't have cared about the people next to us or at least taken pics of the buffet. We were uncomfortable and really just wanted to eat and get out of there.
Sad because this is one of our favorites.

Cost with two iced teas - $57.49

We're having dinner at Biergarten on Oct 17 for my bday :) ...this will be our 1st time eating there...I'm looking forward to this but hope our tablemates are not like yours!

The side you had at San Angel is a chilaquile!! It is usually made as a whole meal, with shredded chicken in it but as a side with no chicken is just as good.

They serve it at the Food and Wine Festival at the Mexico booth. It's delicious!

Me, too. We have been several times before and always had fun but this family just wasn't into the whole sharing a table thing.

I am not sure that I could go back without Deluxe Dining! We really enjoyed being able to try so many places, both the old favorites and new ones for us!

Enjoy your trip!

It's a delicious meal when you shred chicken into it. The F&W Fest cookbook they sell every year has the recipe in it. My mom makes it all the time.

I really enjoyed your reviews. I think it is amazing that you son eats such a variety of food. :thumbsup2 I wish my kids were that adventurous!

Great review! Started me thinking how much I would love a Mom & son trip, but I don't think DH would let us go without him:eek: Maybe I can schedule so alone time with each of my kids, so mommy and me time.

I felt very weird about DH not going throughout the whole planning process but I have to say that I am so very glad and thankful that DS and I had this trip. It truly meant the world to me. DH pointed out that he and I had 4 trips without DS and we will more than likely have a few later in life just the two of us. He was all for our taking this trip which made it easier. Course there will be no Dad & Son trip to Disney! ;) They can have their trip someplace else!

Quote: "Just what is it about those eggs?" I think there is a little cheese in them.

We were there at Pop Aug. 24-31st. Is that the same time you were there? I noticed you were from Upstate New York? Whereabouts? We are from Watervliet, 10 minutes from Albany.

I grew up in Ballston Lake ... we currently live in Rhinebeck, about an hour south of Albany.

Yes, we were at POP from 8/23 thru 9/2. We were in bldg 6, facing the lake.

I'm from Mechanicville! I enjoyed reading your reviews. We are staying at POP 11/6 thru 11/12. :thumbsup2

Scotia here!!! Actually Glenville, but my backyard is Scotia... :goodvibes

Just read it all today... Great TR!!! Thanks for all the great pics and reviews!!! :goodvibes

I was married in Glenville at Kristel's Inn. Not even sure if it is still there. I know the owners at that time now live in Florida.

Thank you for sharing...loved your review! :goodvibes

THANK YOU both! I had so much fun writing it!

Not sure if Kristal is still around... just here 3 years and I'm still finding things out... where was it located???

I always kid that I'm gonna get married at Jumpin Jacks on a Tuesday night during the waterski show... at least I'll have a crowd and good food... :rotfl:

LOL! Too Funny! It was right on Route 50, by the creek that led to a waterfall. Not too far from the Catholic Church that I just cannot think of the name of! :confused3 My Mom worked there and became good friends with the owners. I know they sold so I am fairly sure the restaurant probably changed names.

Love the idea of the Jumpin Jacks wedding! Too Funny! :rotfl:
