Too make a long story short, going to disney on THurs(see below post about BWV)... just found out today that my mom is not doing well.. they think the cancer might have come back in her leg... Going to doctors tomorrow for a bone scan.. IF that is the case, and he allows her to go to disney, she might need a wheelchair as she is in pain, do they provide them at the park? anything else i should know about going to disney with someone sick??? THey might not even want her to travel, if that is the case, we have no trip insurance... any suggestions on that?

I'm sorry to hear that your mom isn't feeling well, ejt. All of the parks have wheelchair rentals - no worries. I believe even the resorts have wheelchairs (not sure if you have to rent them, or if they just allow you to use them - I'm sure someone else will chime in with the exact answer on that one!). Also, Celebration has a hospital very close by in case there's an emergency. All the parks have first aid stations staffed with nurses, as well.

I don't know much about trip insurance, so hopefully someone else can help you out with that!

Good luck and lots of positive thoughts for your mom!

My mother needed a wheelchair on her last (and I do mean last) trip. We were staying at AKL, and they had them available at the Bell Captain stand free of charge. It really helped, as I could roll her onto most buses, and she didn't have to walk to the park entrances.

sorry to hear about your mother, im sending pixie dust for your mother:wizard: we stayed this past aug at the boardwalk and my father needed a wheelchair, so dsis went to the bell captain at the bw and had inquired about wheelchairs in the park, he said just a minute and came back with one and said keep it until you dont need it anymore, free. we only had it one day and returned it that night. thanks to the boardwalk resort:sunny:

I'm so sorry about your Mom! The resorts do have wheelchairs available on a first come, first served basis. But there is no way to reserve them ahead of time. A really good place to read and ask questions is our very own disAbilities board. There are excellent posts on ECV's, wheelchairs and how to rent them from off-site.

Hope you still have a wonderful time at WDW!

Ejt3197, your family will be in my prayers. In the meantime, please go over to the disABILITIES board (click here) and post your question there. That board is full of the most wonderful people who will be able to help you. I know that for a fact. I broke my leg a few months ago, had surgery, became temporarily disabled, and a dear friend here on the Dis pointed me to them. They've been absolutely wonderful in their suggestions and morale support.

God Bless your family.
