Need some P&PD for Mom.. she's been having health issues (pulmonary hypertension) lately, on Thursday she passed out & fractured her ankle, this morning she fell on it again... I went over & found her practically unable to move herself, very weak, in severe pain... I had to call an ambulance because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get her to the car to drive her to the hospital... they are admitting her because of her "ambulatory immobility?"... I doubt they'll keep her for long though... I'm really concerned that she will NOT be able to care for herself.. I'm not sure what our options will be & I'm freaking out a bit ... my house isn't really an option, its got too many stairs, no bedroom to spare, not to mention that DH & I are hardly home these days.... She's freaking out about the Dr that mentioned a rehab/nursing home...

Anyone have any P&PD or advice/experience with this... I'd appreciate all you can spare!

Oh, your poor mom!

Maybe if the doctor and/or nurses explain that the rehab/nursing home is just a temporary thing until she is able to get back on her feet. I've had a couple of neighbors that had to do this sort of thing and they eventually were able to come home.

Your mom definitely doesn't need to be alone in your house - not with you and your DH gone a lot.

Sending your mom some pixie dust and well wishes to help her through this process. :wizard: :grouphug:

Hoping you DM feels better soon! pixiedust:

I sent you a PM chock full of info.

:grouphug: to you and your mom.

No ideas, Christine, but sure hope your mom does well. She is in my prayers.

OMG....we are dealing with alot of the same issues with my mom....she broke her hip last year and things have been downhill ever since....she was also dx with pulmonary hypertension and right sided heart failure. she is 86. She fell last week on the repaired hip.....she is so weak, in pain and I am sure something is going on....The dr seems to think she is stable and sent her home....
I feel for you....It is so hard....for now mom is at home, with a helper that comes in everyday and my 20 yr old is staying there at night....but that wont work longterm....

Sending prayers for your Mom!

Has anyone heard how her mom is doing?
We have had recent issues with my mom. She took a fall and fractured her pelvis. It took 3 weeks of drs visits, xrays and finally the ER dr to diagnosis the fracture. By the time I got her to ER her blood pressure soared to 211/113 and she was in considerable pain..It was very scary for all of us. She spent a few days in the hospital and is now recovering and getting pt in a skilled nursing center. We are hopeful that she will get to go back to her home.
I hope Drgnfly's mom is doing well.

Thank you, Dan for the good wishes for my mom. :wizard:

thanks for your thoughts... I did post a small update soon after she was released... she's getting along better, we have another appt with the Orthopedic Dr on Monday, with her oxygen levels so low it'll take longer than the normal person to heal... shes on Viagra (yes..) for her Pulmonary Hypertension... which will be her downfall... she'll be on oxygen 24 hrs a day for the rest of her life... while it's not up for discussion right now DH & I both know that some sort of assisted living arrangement will be down the road... We are also on better terms now (my update included a blowup that we had)... but my sister & I aren't... in a nutshell she refused to fly out to help in any way & DH had a few choice words with her... :sad2:

My thoughts are with your mom, you and your family. :grouphug:

It sounds like your sib situation is exactly like mine....Both sibs live out of state and have not lifted a finger in helping....I realize they can not help the way I do, since I live so close by.....but they could come at least once or twice a year to take over, lend comfort to mom and give me a break....This has been going on for 11 yrs. My sister and I are barely speaking as she promised to visit our mom while I was out of town helping my dd27 with her new baby.....This had all been set up with her 6 months a head of time and she canceled a month before the birth....I have come to the conclusion that I am in this alone taking care of mom....My other sib has his own health issues and it is more understandable that he cant help....but my sister has no kids at home and has no excuse.
I am happy to hear things have improved with your mom. Is she with you now or living on her own?
