Part 1. Introduction-Dream Weaver

My Wally World reference for those of you who don’t know is from National lampoons 1983 movie Vacation in which Chevy Chase takes his Griswold family on a cross-country drive to the Wally World theme park.

It seems a fititng movie as my family and especially my late(damn its hard to write that) hubby have always found these movies to be so funny and so true, so funny probably because we could relate so well. Parents planning a spectacular vacation, based on their own childhood memories, desires or dreams and becomming almost obssessed with trying to make it sooo perfect while the young teens are rather laid-back and at times it seems the whole world and his own family are trying to rain on his parade..and realizing at the end no matter what “your wally world “ represents the true joy is simply in being together.

Let me start by introducing the family..aka the “Griswolds”

“Dreamweaver”, that would be me, a 40 something, ok I shall turn 46 on this trip Wee! A Mother,of eight, grandmother of nine, recently graduated grad student, psychiatric nurse, who prefers to know (ie plan) what I am doing, where I am going, how I will do it or get there, as far in advance as possible, not just for trips of which there have been few due to our large family but also in life in general. This has been espcially critical as I and my hubby were raising a large family. However my hubby and the children we created are the exact opposite of me. They prefer to do things on the spur of the moment, they are habitually late for everything/(ok well maybe not late, but only, just barely on time. Whereas I consider on time to be at least 15 minutes early.

The children who will be accompanying me on this trip include:

“DramaKing”, a 24 year old son, who was married to his HS sweetheart, then quickly divorced and moved back home last year when his dad was diagnosed and was my right hand in caring for him till we lost him. Who now feels it is his job to be the man of the house

“JR”, 17 y/o a high school senior, laid-back, rarely complains, goes with the flow, likes to write rhymes and rap, which is how he expresses his feelings

“DramaQueen”, 15 y.o female, baby of family, 7 older siblings doting on her all her life or bossing her around. need I say more?

March 07.
Having a large family, long trips or trips far-away were never a possibility for us. Luckily living in california, theme parks were a day trip, as were beaches, mountains, and throw in a few nights camping several times and a trip up the coast to San francisco and you have my childrens’ total trip experience.

Its been a difficult year for us as a family and a good friend who owns a time-share was able to get me a great deal on a villa in Orlando for a week. August 18-25th. My little girl had seen a commercial about swimming with the dolphins and told me this was a dream of hers. Hmm I have access to a villa in Orlando, Discovery cove has dolphin swims and is in Orlando....Just call me the Dreamweaver!

Part 2--Stay tuned

Wow, first I am sorry for the loss of your husband.

I hope you get to Discovery Cove, I know you need reservations for the day you want to be there. Good luck.
