So happy that you got the pictures from Sara and shared them with all of us. It looks like your first day was full of magic! :wizard:

OMG...those cupcakes look divine. I'm a HUGE peanut butter fan, so I probably would have had to go with the same choice as Bradey! Were these from the Poly? Where exactly? I have NEVER had a cupcake anywhere in WDW, but these look nommy-licious! I have heard good things about the ones from Starring Roles in HS also.

I have never ridden the monorail to EPCOT, so i have no idea how awesome this view of the ball is. However, judging by the comments here it is apparently a wonderful view and a great way to see EPCOT! I posted over on my PTR suggestions on how to travel to EPCOT from BLT...I guess that question has now been answered...monorail all the way! :thumbsup2

The cupcakes at the Poly are from Captain Cooks on the ground floor of the Great Ceremonial House. They also have some super good ones at the Contemporary from Contempo Cafe too.

And yes....riding the monorail into Epcot is something everyone should do at least once. Even last year when I took Dani, we stayed at POFQ so the monorail wasn't on our list of transportation. But I made sure we went to MK first, then Epcot so her first look at Epcot was from the monorail :)

YAY!!! I am so excited. So many trip reports around the same time and so many different ways of going about things......since I have absolutely 0 experience there I am LOVING this!!!

Great first day btw:goodvibes

We want to go back !!!!!! :dance3:Suzie..

The Cupcakes looks soooo good

The Balcony is the perfect size to have a tent out there for certain people to snore.... :lmao: :rotfl2:

love love love the pictures! Sara did a WONDERFUL JOB! Love the ferry too. that is the main means of transportation to MK for us.. Yeah it's a bit slow. but it forces you to relax!!!

I just love you Suzi! you CRACK me UP!

the electrical Parade is one of my favorites too.. were you able to see it form the balcony!?!

HOLY CROW the pictures from SE had me ROLLING!!! how FUNNY!!!!

Hello Suzi! What a great start to your trip report! I am joining in for sure - can't wait to read the rest of it. You've got me even More excited (hard to imagine that's possible, really) for our upcoming trip.

Hooray for Disney World - and Hooray for trip reports! :cool1:

Your son is just about the same age as my grandson was on our Feb trip. That is such a great age for WDW. :goodvibes

I'm enjoying your Poly pictures. I stayed in Tahiti when I was there the last time, but didn't get much time to explore the resort. Is that Tahiti to the far left in this picture?
9710683071_b888c0607e_z.jpg

And is the club level building the one on the far right? And is that the beach that is going to be affected by the upcoming construction? It seems a shame to ruin that view. :sad1:

So I guess Sara was more in love with Disney than I thought. We have been back, what, 15 or so days??

She just informed me tonight that she has applied to the Disney College Program! She is in stage three of the application process and has a character audition in CT on Oct 6th!

OMG I am so excited for her! That would be a dream come true :lovestruc Everyone cross your fingers for her!
Wow, that would be so cool!!!! I guess that view of Epcot from the monorail won her over. Or it could have been the view of the castle from your balcony. You are the best cousin ever. :goodvibes

Loved seeing all the pictures from Sara. Love that picture of Bradey on the balcony. I enjoyed your recap of your visit to BOG. We have an ADR there for dinner in October and I don't want to sit in the West Wing because from your picture it looks really dark in there.

Via Napoli is on my list for our next trip, well not my next trip or the one after that but the next one for sure. It looks like a perfect place for a meal.

So how do you get from the TTC to the Poly? We were at the Poly on our last trip and I swear I could see our car in the parking lot at the TTC but the monorail attendant was talking us out of walking because I think we had to cross a road (it was still light out). The kids and my folks just wanted to take the monorail but it took forever because it kept stopping for maintenance. :confused3

Yay!!! Suzi got Sarah's pictures!!! WHOOT!

Ok - LOVED the cupcake pictures, NUMMY!

And - I do wish we had a balcony - it's just so nice to sit out there and your view was spectacular!

I am glad that Sarah has her first glimpse of Epcot from the Monorail too - perfect!

Loved the electric water parade, I've seen parts of it, but I've never watched the whole thing... Some day - when I stay at the Poly - I will do that. It' son my bucket list.

Can't wait to hear about the rest.

D~

Thanks D. More updates coming right up ::yes::

Yay for more pictures of your first day. Sarah did a great job taking pictures and she looks very happy with that slush.

She sure was. She had just turned 21 a couple weeks earlier. I tried to get her to wear a birthday button, but she liked her First Visit one better. She really enjoyed trying a few drinks this trip.

YAY!!! I am so excited. So many trip reports around the same time and so many different ways of going about things......since I have absolutely 0 experience there I am LOVING this!!!

Great first day btw:goodvibes

Well, you will have to make up your own mind about what way is the best for your trip. But it is nice to get lots of TR under your belt so you have that plethora of information stored in your brain. When something isn't working for you, you can say "oh yeah, I saw on Suzi's TR that we can do this..."

We want to go back !!!!!! :dance3:Suzie..

The Cupcakes looks soooo good

They were yummy. The last time we were at the Poly, they didn't have very good cupcakes. They weren't fresh and they were kept in the cooler for days on end. I think Disney is doing a much better job with cupcakes all around.

Yay Sara for all the extra pictures!!!

Yeah, see why I didn't want to continue my report until I had all the pics??

love love love the pictures! Sara did a WONDERFUL JOB! Love the ferry too. that is the main means of transportation to MK for us.. Yeah it's a bit slow. but it forces you to relax!!!

HOLY CROW the pictures from SE had me ROLLING!!! how FUNNY!!!!

Thanks Mo, I think she did a great job too. I had tears in my eyes at some of the good ones she got of Bradey and me.

We might have been able to see the water parade from the balcony, but I had never seen it before, so I wanted to be front and center. It was great watching it from out on the point.

Yeah, they had a fun future on SSE. I wish she had taken a pic of them in scuba suits :rotfl:

Hooray for Disney World - and Hooray for trip reports! :cool1:

Thanks and WELCOME! It was a great trip. I totally have PDDD (Post Disney Depression Disorder) this time for sure....when can I go back??

Awesome pics! :)

Thanks! I have lots more. Just have to find the time for an update.

Your son is just about the same age as my grandson was on our Feb trip. That is such a great age for WDW.

It is. He is starting to realize that the "furry" characters aren't real, but I think he believes that the face characters are the real thing. It was nice having him out of the stroller, though I missed that extra storage space!

I'm enjoying your Poly pictures. I stayed in Tahiti when I was there the last time, but didn't get much time to explore the resort. Is that Tahiti to the far left in this picture?

And is the club level building the one on the far right? And is that the beach that is going to be affected by the upcoming construction? It seems a shame to ruin that view. :sad1:

Yep, Tahiti is on the far left...closest to the TTC. And Hawaii is front and center on the beach. They have a great view, but I can't imagine paying the price for Club Level at the Poly :scared1:

I know what you mean. If the bungalows go in where they are expected....it will ruin a lot of the view. There are plans I've seen that show them all along the beach over by Tahiti and around the end of the point too. I don't think they are going in front of Hawaii because that is the main beach. But even so...that will be a big change. This was one reason I really wanted to stay here again....I doubt I will ever stay there once it goes DVC because of the different feel as well as price. We have been extremely lucky to stay here twice and I think that is good enough. There are so many other resorts I want to try.

Wow, that would be so cool!!!! I guess that view of Epcot from the monorail won her over. Or it could have been the view of the castle from your balcony. You are the best cousin ever.

Yep, I am. But I just love showing newbie around. The magic never dies if you always have a newbie with you! But looking forward to a Mother/Son alone trip sometime too. To be able to just do what we want and not worry about anyone else.

Loved seeing all the pictures from Sara. Love that picture of Bradley on the balcony. I enjoyed your recap of your visit to BOG. We have an ADR there for dinner in October and I don't want to sit in the West Wing because from your picture it looks really dark in there.

It was darker than the other rooms, but it was really neat too. It isn't as dark in there as the picture makes it look....remember, these are just cell phone pictures. The West Wing is really cool....and I think for a sit down dinner it would be fun. I just don't think I would like the main ballroom. It is too big and the tables are all squished together sort of like a big cafeteria. I like either the West Wing or the Library (which by the way...had no books).

Via Napoli is on my list for our next trip, well not my next trip or the one after that but the next one for sure. It looks like a perfect place for a meal.

Oh I just love Via Napoli. It is the perfect arrival night dinner for us. I love the decor, the menu and I love that it is halfway around WS...so you can get a little touring in on the way.

:confused3

Oh, it is a simple little walkway. You don't cross a main road...just part of the side driveway to the TTC. Guests don't use it, and I have never seen any vehicles going that way. I think it goes "backstage" somewhere. Even from the Great Ceremonial House it is quicker to walk to the TTC than it is to ride the monorail all the way around. From the GCH, you can either walk out the front doors and down the sidewalk kind of under the monorail track, or a prettier way...
Out the back doors and take any of the paths to the right. They wind their way through the right side of the resort past the quiet pool and over between a few longhouses. In the evening they have the tiki torches lit and hawaiian music playing (or they did last time, but not in August). Some people complain that it is too dark at night, but the pathway to the TTC is clearly marked and they have plenty of lights. We really enjoyed walking over there. Of course, we were in Tokelau, which is halfway between the GCH and the TTC, so we were halfway there already. It would have been just as far to walk over to the GCH to hop the monorail as it was to walk to the TTC.

The Balcony is the perfect size to have a tent out there for certain people to snore.... :lmao: :rotfl2:

Pfft... :rolleyes1 At least I admit it... :scratchin

D~

BAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA HA

you nut!

Or......there is always the bathtub.

Just an idea :confused3

Do you still snore if we give you enough to drink?? You could have a couple Lapu Lapus before bed and I bet you would be out cold ::yes::

Your son is so adorable. We stayed at the Poly when they had the pay for 4 nights get 3 free. Would love to stay their again. Looking forward to reading more about your trip. :)

Now that I have pictures......moving right along...

Sunday August 18th - Animal Kingdom Day!

We woke up bright and early and walked over to Captain Cooks for breakfast. Love this shot of the GCH in the morning sun

It was Mickey Waffles all around today.

Oh gosh how I love that Poly sausage. I'm not sure what it is about it...I am not usually a sausage person, but I love this stuff.

We ate up and walked back to the room to brush our teeth and grab our bags for the day. Then we walked back over to the GCH to trade in my PP+ voucher for the special red card thingy. The guy told me I had to wear it at all times...yeah, not going to happen. I saw plenty of people religiously wearing their PP+ lanyards, but it would've drove me nuts to have that around my neck all the time. I see no reason why you have to wear it all the time. Just have it in your bag and pull it out when you want a pic.

So, after we got that straightened out, it was hidden Mickey time.

And a shot of Sara and Bradey at the fountain....

Then off to the bus stop. It was kinda packed. So let me tell you....the buses at the Poly are horrid. You have to share with the Contemporary, Grand Floridian and sometimes Wilderness Lodge...what is deluxe about that?? Please tell me?? So needless to say, the buses are always packed. Now granted, you only have to take a bus to/from AK and DTD...maybe HS, but we always plan it so we are either coming or going to HS from Epcot so we don't have to take the bus anymore than need be.

So anyway....a full bus to AK that morning.

We arrived just after rope drop. I like this plan because the before opening crowd has passed through, but you are still early enough to get on the popular rides. AK isn't my favorite park, so we can easily do it in a half day (I know D....I know....)

So we entered and walked straight for the safari. I knew in that heat that the animals would be less active as the day went on. It wasn't super crowded, but way worse than February.

We stopped for our first PP pic in front of the tree.

Oh yeah...he looks impressed, doesn't he.

At least Sara is cute in all of them!

Let's try roaring like a lion....

A little better

Okay, nevermind....let's keep moving.

So, I got really annoyed on this safari. First of all...they made us wait through 3 Jeeps because the first one had 2 people already in the row...okay, they don't want to squish us. I'll wait, no problem. Then the next 2 were handicap, so 3 across wouldn't work in the row they put us in. So we wait through 3 loadings then get on board. The loading guy tells the 2 people behind us to get in our row. Too BIG additional people in our row. Now wait a minute...we couldn't get on the first one because there were already 2 people in that seat....that would have been 5. Now we are squished with 5 after waiting through 3 loadings. So I was pissed to start with because I was in the middle of the row (not good for pictures, not good for sweating).

Then this chick next to me turns out to totally disreguard the rules for personal space and just about sits on TOP of me to get pictures out the other side of the Jeep. I am not exaggerating....she actually hit me in the head 3 times with her darn camera! I calmly told her about half way through the ride that the next time her camera hits me, I am going to throw it out the door!

Anyway....so my pictures sucked.

Sara had much better pictures because she was on the outside. And wasn't sitting next to Kung Foo Betty.

Look the Lions were out!

Hippos :)

So after the safari we headed over to Expedition Everest. This was to be Bradey's first real coaster. I know...I know...Thunder Mountain would have been a better first coaster, but we were not planning another AK day, and I really didn't think it was that bad.

Did he like it???

No.

It was too fast and the backwards through the dark thing really got him. I think he will be fine to try it again next time, but it wasn't his favorite. He actually cried :sad2:

Hahaha....just noticed the boy behind me...doesn't look like he liked it all that much either. At least I look like the caring mother...that guy isn't even paying attention to the little boy behind me!

So, Bradey didn't like EE, but he was still good to go. He still wanted to try Thunder Mountain when we got there. No harm done. I asked Sara if she was scared of the Yeti and she said "no it was just a projection". Ummm...no, there was an actual Yeti trying to swoop down and kill us. Yep, she closed her eyes that whole time...totally missed Mr Yeti.

Next up we decided to take a little walk to calm our nerves. We tried to catch Nemo, but our timing was off. So we walked back past EE and onto the Tiger/Bat trail.

Bradey found a hidden Mickey all on his own.

So proud of him. He found a lot of those this trip.

Next up was the Tree of Life trail...or what is left of them. This disappoints me very much. It was such a neat thing to walk all along underneath that big amazing tree. Now you walk along the exit to Tough to Be a Bug. Not very magical, but you still can see some of the carvings.

Sara got a couple good shots too.

Oh yeah...I forgot that on the way to EE we stopped for the drums

And another cool photo op

Okay, back on track. We rode EE, tried for the Nemo show, then walked the trails. On the other side of the Tree of Life trail, we decided to grab something little to eat. Pizzafari is one of the only air conditioned Quick Service places at AK, and since we were right near there, Pizzafari it was.

No one was very hungry, so we just ordered 2 ceasar salads and an order of breadsticks.

We waited FOREVER for these salads because Sara had no chicken. Apparently Disney does not have vegetarian stuff made ahead. We seriously stood there waiting for about 15 mins. It was really annoying...this happened way more than it should have this week.

We grabbed some seats in the Wearing their Homes room. Sara and Bradey liked the critters on the ceiling.

It was standard Disney food, but it was nice to take a break in the AC for a bit.

After lunch, feeling refreshed, we made our way over to Camp Minnie Mickey. It was just time for the Lion King show to start seating, so we didn't get to see any characters.

We were seated in the Warthog section...again. I have never sat anywhere else. Next time I am going to sneak over to another section just for a different view.

Bradey loved it and Sara was totally immersed.

We sat way in the back so we had something to lean against....good tip for any of you first timers ** sit at the top if you possibly can **

After Lion King, we walked all the way over to the Nemo pavillion to catch the next show and then realized it was the 2:00 show and there was no 2:00 show. They skip an hour in the afternoon. No way we were wandering around in that heat to wait for the next one.

We decided now would be a good time to just head out. We made the long walk back to the buses and it wasn't a long wait for the Poly bus to show up.

Up next....an afternoon pool break then Magic Kingdom for the evening.

Your son is so adorable. We stayed at the Poly when they had the pay for 4 nights get 3 free. Would love to stay their again. Looking forward to reading more about your trip. :)

Oooh... that would have been a great deal! Haven't seen discounts like that in a while. I think Disney is getting just a little stingy with it's sales. But the Poly is definitely a treat to stay at. Especially in the August heat...it was nice to have the monorail option. At park closing, we were loaded up and back in our room before most people even got on their buses. Loved it.

Hahaha! Oh Kung Fu Betty! That stinks I would have been so annoyed as well, glad you said something to her!!!

I didn't even know about the tree of life trail! Boo I would have liked to see that but we ran outta time even after spending the whole day there!

How funny, we were Warthogs too!!!

And I can't believe y'all are so good at finding hidden mickeys!! We hardly found any and that's all I was doing!! I even had the book but kept forgetting to bring it to the parks! Blah...next time! ;)

Looks like another awesome time for you guys!

OMG.. you had me dieing over here with the Kung Fo Betty!!!! you poor thing! What did she say when you were going to take the camera? Holy crap i would PAY to watch that... you KNOW how hard i would laugh... Sara is a really pretty girl, ALL of you look too cute.. :worship: I wish i would take a nice picture!!!

POOR MICKEY WAFFLE! That looks like a scary move with his face all REDDENED! what did you DO! i'm telling.. yep i'm telling on you. you massacred the main mouse. :scared1:

I don't know what she said....she didn't speak English...hence "Kung Fu Betty". She got my meaning though.

And the waffle masacre was just strawberries. No syrup on my Mickey Waffles...just strawberry. Yum yum yum.

Oh..and I always eat the ears first ;)
