Mom...am I supposed to have shoes on?? - August 2013 ***FINISHED 5/5***

OH NO! Not blisters!!! I bring MASSIVE amounts of moleskin. It's a life saver. :thumbsup2

AoA looks AWESOME! I cannot wait to stay there!!! I heard there was some reconstruction in the food court.. I don't know what that's about since the place is brand new?!?!

Please tell me you iced your ankle down when you got back?!?!

So this Girls dis trip you speak of.. Pop is cute?!?

Woohoo!!! An update!!! I'm glad that y'all finally made it to dinner, I hate that it took so long for your food though! :confused3

Yuck, blisters!!! I am definitely following Mo's advice. we will have moleskin with us at all times!!!

OK replying from my tablet, so I have to do it from memory...

The girls have always loved those jumping fountains, no matter what their age... Even now.

Still feel awful that we left you stranded in Epcot... Especially with your ankle and Bradey's blisters.

Glad we were finally able to meet up.

Oh gosh, no....we weren't upset with you. Actually, I thought it was funny. Sara was the one who was annoyed. But not at you guys. How could you know. I think she was annoyed with me for going to that other section to wait for you. Anyhoo...we all got over it pretty quickly....like as soon as we were on the airconditioned bus :thumbsup2

Yah, the food court sucked, and a definite reason not to stay at aoa.

I can't remember what I ate there, but I think it was some sort of warm seafood sandwich I had to eat cold... Eeew.

Oh yeah, didn't you have that surf & turf burger??

It was so much fun exploring the cars section with you, one of our favorite memories from the trip.

Always happy to come to the rescue with band aids. Something I never carry at home.

That was super fun to meet Kathy and Mark.

I don't think I realized you got on your dhs bus before we got on our fq bus... I know we had to transfer via a park bus, clearly we chose the wrong park. Lol

I waved to one of the girls....I think it was V. Our bus was pulling up just as we got there, so we just waved to you and hopped on :drive:

Despite all the crappiness of this day, I look back on it fondly because we were all together... And I can't wait to see you again in 44 days!!!!

Love ya, mean it.

D~

So true. Lots of crappy parts.....but it is also one of my top 3 memories of the trip!

Welcome back and congratulations to Sara for starting the college program. Glad she loves her roomies, but too bad she doesn't care for her job. No A/C must be awful.

Great pictures from AoA and Pop. I have stayed at Pop on a GF trip and solo and it is such a cute place. I would like to stay at AoA as well.

Your food from Landscapes of Flavor looks really yummy. Nice that you got a chance to eat there and tour the resort. We haves toured it once and even my DH said, and I quote, "they did a great job with this resort".

Great update!

Thanks. I did enjoy both Pop and AoA. I will stay at both of them at some point. And I would certainly give the food court another chance, but reading the reviews on AllEars leads me to believe it wasn't just a fluke. I think it would be okay if you just planned ahead and everyone got their food from the same bay. Definitely give it another chance sometime. But not until Bradey is older, so if we have to split up when ordering it isn't a big deal.

Just found your TR. I'm only on page 10, but I wanted to say that I was enjoying it! I especially love reading TRs from the time I was there too! I was at WDW from Aug 18-28. :)

Really?! That is great. It was hot hot hot last year. Hoping this summer isn't quite as bad. We are going in June this time, so we will see. Where did you stay? And definitely let me know if you see yourself in any of the pictures.....that would be so fun. When I had more time to DIS, I used to just search constantly all the pictures I could find from the time period I was there. I have yet to find myself in any pictures which I find strange because I HAVE to be in someone's somewhere!

Yay! An update! Bummer about the blisters but looks like a great end to the day still!

I can't believe you had to wait so long for food at AoA!! When we stayed there we never had any problems with that! I'm thinking you had an unusually crowded night or something bc we ate there several times and the longest I had to wait was maybe 10-15 at the pasta station since that is customized to each person.

Love all your pics in the cars section!!

We did have a great day in spite of the blisters and my mystery pain. Still don't know what that was. It lasted for weeks after I got back too. Just about killed me on the trip home, not being able to stretch it out on the plane!

Yeah, I know you had great experiences with the food court. I'm so glad! And I would probably give it another try at some point. Just not until Bradey is bigger and can split up if we have to.

Bummer about the ankle and the blisters. I always carry bandaids when we go to the parks, though I haven't needed them, yet. Charlie and I stayed at Pop for one night when we went in March. It looks like a very fun resort, but we didn't really have time to explore it.

One of these years we will staying at the Poly....

Just don't stay at the Poly this year! What a mess! But I know it will be even more gorgeous when they get done :thumbsup2

OH NO! Not blisters!!! I bring MASSIVE amounts of moleskin. It's a life saver. :thumbsup2

Okay, tell me how this moleskin works??? Do you use it before or after a blister forms? I had a bunch of it with me, but he didn't tell me about it until the poor feet were already shredded apart! Moleskin would've just stuck to it....no way I could do that to the poor little guy.

AoA looks AWESOME! I cannot wait to stay there!!! I heard there was some reconstruction in the food court.. I don't know what that's about since the place is brand new?!?!

You will have a blast. The food at Landscapes was great and they have soooo much to choose from. It was just the speed. If you could just plan ahead and get everything from the same bay, you would have a better chance of it all coming out at the same time. I know there are tons and tons of bad reviews for just that reason on AllEars, so I know our experience wasn't a fluke. They would have to listen to the masses and do something about it eventually. I'm sure you will be fine.

Please tell me you iced your ankle down when you got back?!?!

I did. Nothing helped. It wasn't like a sprain or anything I have ever experienced. It bothered me for weeks after. Ugh....just the memory of it....I hope and pray that it doesn't happen again.

So this Girls dis trip you speak of.. Pop is cute?!?

Yes yes yes....I thought we talked about that already. It would be so much fun. Two rooms at Pop! I am not sharing a full-sized bed with anyone!!!

Woohoo!!! An update!!! I'm glad that y'all finally made it to dinner, I hate that it took so long for your food though! :confused3

Yuck, blisters!!! I am definitely following Mo's advice. we will have moleskin with us at all times!!!

Thanks. Yes, dinner was slow, but yummy! And we had great company, so overall it was wonderful!

I think you put the moleskin on when you start feeling a "hot spot" that's like rubbing. But you're right, this is hard with kids! They typically don't say anything until it's too late, maybe if we explain about it before hand they'd be more willing to tell us when they start to feel blisters forming?

Matt and i both had nasty blisters we put the mole skin on the blisters it was like magic. we didn't feel any pain the rest of the trip!!!

Maybe you should bring an ankle brace with you next time. it could have been some weird shin splint? either way your have some sort of brace to help you!!!

I don't know what you're talking about with this not sharing a bed thing... Lex can't wait to sleep with you in Meg's room... :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: (just kidding)

Just tuned into your TR and I must say, losing a first tooth at Disney World is awesome!

It was just so strange because this was our next to last day. He had been wearing those same shoes all week. In and out of rain, heat, sand.....whatever. I can't figure out why it all of a sudden started hurting that day. But oh well....over and done. We learned from it :)

See....when I wear my flip flops all week, I have no problems at all. When I try to be good and wear supportive shoes....all goes to heck.

Oh yeah.....me and Lex.....we'll be tight. But I'm pretty sure D already claimed him. Oh wait....was that Stevie???

Just tuned into your TR and I must say, losing a first tooth at Disney World is awesome!

I know! I was so excited for that. It was loose for WEEKS before we left and I just kept hoping it would be lost down there!

******************************************************************************

Just have to share because I am soooooo excited. As some of you know, I am going back this summer and I am taking my 86 year old grandmother who means the world to me. We had French Quarter booked, and normally I would be very happy with that. But something just kept bugging me and telling me to change. My Gram has never been and probably will never go again. She has had a very tough life and she has done so much for me over the years. To say I want to make this trip special for her is an understatement. This has to be AMAZING for her. What better place to stay than the Grand Floridian!!!! Yep, just called WDW tonight and switched over! With the summer discount, and no discount at POFQ, it isn't that much more to stay at the GF.

And.....when I looked at their thread on here, I see that they are in the midst of a room refurb right now too, so no more crazy floral everything. It is gorgeous now. I don't know how to link from my iPad, so just search for it and you will see. I can't wait! Now I really really have to get this TR finished so I can start a PTR for June. Yay!

Soooo excited that you switched to GF... Seriously - I ADORE that room refurb... I don't dare share those photos with Alli, because that is a resort she is considering for her graduation trip.

I cannot wait until you start your new PTR - it's going to be so fun to follow! :lovestruc

And I am looking forward to "meeting" your Gram - I have heard so much about the amazing person she is... Also, can't wait to come out to the Island of Maine next year to meet her in person! :thumbsup2

D~ <---- 41 days! ::yes::

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited for you!!!! I hope you have a WONDERFUL room with a better view!!!!

Not going into too much on your new plans.. I want to hear the rest of this lovely trip!!!! :yay:

Love ya...

Mean it.

So, I probably shouldn't share those pics on FB then?? Wait....isn't Alli on here? Ruh Roh.....

I cannot wait until you start your new PTR - it's going to be so fun to follow! :lovestruc

I'm trying....I'm trying!

And I am looking forward to "meeting" your Gram - I have heard so much about the amazing person she is... Also, can't wait to come out to the Island of Maine next year to meet her in person! :thumbsup2

I love my Gram. She has done so so much for us. In fact just today she called and asked if I wanted Bradey to stay at their house after our weekly dinner. She knew there was no school Friday and we would have to get up extra early to get him up to her house before I had to be at work at 8. So this will save him a couple hours of sleep. She is always there for us when we need her. I am so happy to be able to do this for her!

D~ <---- 41 days! ::yes::

I KNOW! YAY! :dance3:

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited for you!!!! I hope you have a WONDERFUL room with a better view!!!!

Mean it.

I requested building 5 (Sago Cay) because we want a monorail view. And it is super close to the QS which we will frequent every morning probably. Although, the GF Cafe looks amazing for breakfast too. And I hear you really don't need ADRs there, so it is a good chance if we are up early enough to have a sit down breakfast we will be there. Sad I won't have my macadamia pineapple pancakes, but the GF Cafe has a yummy sounding pancake too.

I know...getting another update in tonight....hopefully.

Friday August 23

This was our "official" Hollywood Studios day. I am not a huge HS fan, so I rarely plan a rope drop for this day. We slept until around 9, got dressed and headed over to Captain Cooks.

Not sure what he's eating, but he looks happy!

While Sara and Bradey were finishing up, I ran up stairs to see if I could get a pair of socks for Bradey. He didn't have any other shoes and I didn't bring socks. I know....mother of the year here. But at least I found some. And they had Mickeys on them.

Yes, they were $12 for one pair....and the Mickey head fell off after one wash. But what's a mother to do? It was either this or we didn't go out on our last day. Not going to happen. PS....I was still hobbling like an invalid. Socks would not help me.

So after we brushed our teeth and donned the cute socks....we were on our way to the bus stop.

We went right over to ToT so Sara could grab a FP. There was only about 45 mins before her window opened up, so there wasn't time enough to do anything. Even GMR had a 40 min wait.

So we just walked around and saw what we could see. A little back story here. Bradey has never really liked Toy Story....but he plays with a green army man at my Gram's he lovingly calls "Green Guy". He plays with my uncle...its their special thing. Well when he saw the Army Man by the TSM ride....he was so excited. We had to get a couple pics to send to Unlce Jim!

I think it was one of the highlights of the trip for sure!

Then we just kept walking and look who we saw!

Erin and little V! I was very happy because we had not taken any pictures the other night at the Dessert Party and as you know....if there are no pics, the DISmeet didn't happen. So I had Sara snap a pic of the 4 of us. Just love them. V's dresses were all so great!

So by now it was time for Sara to ride ToT. I had told her all about it. She was excited. Of course....I failed to tell her it was an elevator. Yep, Sara is PETRIFIED of elevators! Hahahaha.....

Check her out...bottom left corner!

Hahahaha.....love it!
Bradey and I just waited in the shade along the stone wall by the entrance. And by the time she was done with her ride, it was time to head up to Epcot for lunch. Yeah, we didn't get much done this morning. But we will be back. promise.

Continued....

We took the boat over to Epcot. It was HOT. It was SLOW. We stopped at the Swan/Dolphin....then Yatch/Beach Club.....then over here

Before finally making it to International Gateway. We were almost late for our ADR and we left HS with an hour!

We hobbled over to France and checked in at a new one for me. Le Chefs de France. O.M.G.....where have I been??? That place was fantastic. The food, the servers, the atmosphere, the rat. Yes, the rat. My Remy made an appearance for us. But I'm getting ahead of myself. First the atmosphere....we were seated out in the "sun room" section with a great view of the fountain.

And the food....I had the Croque monsieur

Gotta say....much better than the one at BoG! And the side salad is to die for too.

Bradey had chicken fingers which he enjoyed, but it was way too much for him.

And Sara had the.....yeah, not even going to try that one...copied from AllEars "Lasagnes de legumes du soleil a l'huile d'olive au thym - zucchini, eggplant, tomatoes, onions and bell peppers baked into thin layers of pasta" it sure looked pretty and she loved it. I think I would have to try that if we went back.

And this little rascal came around. Now, Remy doens't do a whole lot...he just squeaks. But his handler was amazingly funny. Can't believe I didn't get a picture of him. And I hear now they have done away with this "character meeting". Too bad because it was very neat. Here's a pic

Even though we were stuffed...I just had to see what dessert in France was like. We all wanted dessert. Sara had the grrr...why are her's always so hard to type??? AllEars to the rescue again. Sara had the "Fraisier sur coulis de framboise, sorbet fraise - fresh strawberry and cream cake, raspberry sauce and strawberry sorbet" - Strawberry cake thingy.

Bradey had the daily sorbet. I believe it was peach/melon. He loved it...

And I had the....oh gosh, mine is hard too here we go AllEars "Profiteroles au chocolat - Puff choux with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce"

Yum! This post makes me hungry again. I didn't book this for this summer, but maybe Gram needs to eat in France too....hmmmm....

After we settled up the bill, we took the boat immediately back down to HS. Yes, it was still hot and it was still slow, but we weren't in a hurry this time and it gave us a chance to digest our meals.

Continued....

When we got back to HS, we walked straight back to the Backlot Tour. I have heard rumors that Backlot will be closed to make room for CarsLand type area. Now, as much as I can't WAIT for Carsland....I will really miss this attraction. It is one of the few (along with Figment and Pirates) that I remember from my childhood trips. But alas....change is good, right??

So...moving along....

Sara liked theater in highschool, so I told her they pick volunteers for a pre ride show and it was fun. So she volunteered and got picked! Fun fun fun! Yes, I might have failed to mention that she would get SOAKED. Didn't seem important at that moment. Heee heee heee. So here are some pictures from Sara's Hollywood debut.

Coming out on stage...Sara is on the far right

Getting ready to swab the deck. I was kinda hoping she would get the part of the Captain in the engine room....hee hee hee...

What?? I have no pics of the firefight??? I must have been video taping at that point I guess...sorry guys. You will have to take my word for it, it was great!

Now, the other times I had done this attraction, the families of the volunteers were saved the front car on the tram, but not anymore. We were at the very very back as we had to wait for them to get changed again. But it was fine.

We told Sara the best seats were on the left side of the tram (heee hee hee)

Am I cruel???

Nah....she loved it!

We get off the Backlot just in time to see the LMA stunt show. This was a first for me too as we could never time it right before. I was very excited because Bradey would love this one!

We waited....

See the beautiful sky in that pic up there??? Yeah, well there was a storm off to the side. Never came close to us, but they made us wait for an hour before they cancelled the show. I had talked to Erin and V after and they said they had tried to get in about 10 mins after we did and they turned them away saying it was going to be cancelled. Yet they didn't tell us! We were stuck on those hard bleachers with thousands of other people just waiting....grrrr....we missed Character Palooza and everything.

I was sooo not a happy camper after that. After about an hour I said "forget it" and we got up and left. As we were walking out of the theater they announced it was cancelled. At least we beat the masses leaving, but still pissed me off. If they knew it was going to be cancelled way back when Erin asked, they should have told us in the arena too!

So we were annoyed, when we left the theater, we walked around a little, but my heart wasn't really in it and all the rides had such long lines. So we just left. We waited forever for the bus again and since we shared with all the other MK area deluxes, we got off at the Contemporary. We did some shopping then took the monorail back to the Poly.

Stopping for a photo opp outside our building (which I just heard this week was being closed down and turned into DVC)

And our room way at the top floor

We took showers and changed, then headed to Captain Cooks for dinner. I had my beloved Ahola Pork sandwich

Sara had the adult grilled cheese which is yummy too

Boy, their carryout containers really don't allow for great pictures! And the star of the dinner was Bradey's chicken and pineapple skewer. Yes, this is a kids meal at Capt Cooks. It was so good.

After dinner we walked over to the TTC and hopped the monorail to Epcot. A little fun with the character gate

And of course a PP in front of SSE

Then we walked around WS one more time since this was Sara's favorite place in "The World". We had margheritas in Mexico

They were good, but not as good as my Grey Goose in France.

Sara shopped at almost every country and we did pick a pearl in Japan

And both of them side by side. We didn't have them mounted this time and I really regret that. I wonder if I bring them back this year if they would still mount them???

We left just as Illuminations was starting. We rode an almost empty monorail back to the Poly and watched Wishes from the beach. Then it was time to pack our bags. Tomorrow is departure day

So glad you had another meeting with Erin and little V! They are so adorable!

The Green Army Men are so cool to see, glad Bradey got to see someone he liked while you were waiting.

LOL - poor Sara... First ToT... Then BLT... Then BST... ROFL - poor girl.

Glad you had a great meal at Chefs... That's one I'd had, but then we gave it up for a few different ADRs - eventually settling on Akershus.

Still so bummed about your feet problems and Bradey's too - not a good way to tour, for sure. Glad he had socks though - that helped a lot.

So sad your last day is almost here...

D~

Were his feet ok this day?!?! with the socks on?!? the disney socks are AWESOME! yet your right they do not last..

WOW you did a TON of hopping around!

ALL the food looks DELISH! Your pictures make me MISS THE POLY! in the WORST WAY. then i go look at the construction and feel better about AoA. I will be back there some year..

I wonder why they rid themselves of varmints from France? Remy is really neat! I CRACKED UP with you and the names of food!!! :lmao: but your chocolate thing was the TOPS!!!

Green army men... I have a story... we were walking around HS MINDING OUR OWN BUSINESS when one decided to sneak up behind me to scare the living BEJESUS out of me!!! I laughed so hard i was hunched over... so of course we had to stop and take pictures well as i am taking a picture of the munchkins with my now arch nemesis ANOTHER ONE snuck up next to me like 2 inches from my face... Yep scared me to no end. again i laughed SO HARD!!! so remember when there is one green guy there is another not far behind!!! We had to watch other unsuspecting guests have their scare of a life..popcorn:: much more fun watching it happen to others.. :woohoo:

LOVE the pick a pearl!!! Plan on this for Meg in Sept. Wondering should i buy a necklace before we go and take it with us??? or are they OK priced??

I CANNOT WAIT TO GET A SLUSHIE!!!!

i am hoping the backlot tour is still going on in Sept! Another rumor is a star wars land instead of Cars. But i don't know which is true.

So sorry you weren't able to see LCMA it's a great show!!! really crappy they let you sit there..

Ugh i miss the poly...

Oh YUM!!!!! I really wanted do to Chefs.....oh well, maybe next time!!!

So, rookie question here....Is it pretty easy to get from HS to Epcot and vice versa.....we will have park hoppers and since we don't really know what we will like best I want to have some back up plans :confused3

Erin and V are great. I am so glad I got to meet them a couple times. Erin did such a great job on all of Vs outfits. That is how we recognized them at the dessert party....I had never seen them before, but I saw this little red head with an amazing custom Wishes dress....I just knew it was them!

He really loved the Army men. And since it is something he does specifically at Gram's, I am hoping we get a photo op with them again this year.

Chefs was so good. And after doing that post, I think I have to have a lunch there this year too. It's so hard...I want to take advantage of staying at the GF, and eat there often, but it's a shorter trip and I have so many other ones to eat at. Not sure I can fit it all in.

Socks were magic! He never complained once.

The socks worked great! He was golden all day :)

We always do a lot of hopping. We always always always take a mid day break....it is necessary in the summer (especially this year with Gram). Usually we start at one park then hop to another....or two. That's the beauty of hoppers. I love the flexibility.

Chefs was good all around. I honestly think next time I would not get dessert, but grab something in the pastry shop next door. It was ok, but I've had better for the price. Another reason I don't do the dining plan. I usually don't do dessert with dinner....usually have it later. Not possible with ddp. Well it is if you use a snack credit after. But it just doesn't work for me.

Hahaha...funny story with the army man. I feel like they are one of the best meets there. They have so much fun with the guests. I think they just have no pressure because they are not one of the most popular. I find those characters are the best.

So pick a pearl, totally great for Meg! I didn't think their settings were too bad. My biggest complaint with their settings is that they don't have any "Disney" designs. Other than the carriage, they are just plain. Still pretty, but I feel they should have some unique to Disney choices. If you can find something you like, by all means bring it. I'm not sure they would set it for you, but if it is just a cage thing, you could just do it yourself.

Oh YUM!!!!! I really wanted do to Chefs.....oh well, maybe next time!!! So, rookie question here....Is it pretty easy to get from HS to Epcot and vice versa.....we will have park hoppers and since we don't really know what we will like best I want to have some back up plans :confused3

It is super easy. You just go out the International Gateway over between France and England. You can either walk all the way (which is a pretty long walk, but gorgeous), or take the boat. As slow as the boat is, I think it would take longer to walk. We loved walking in Feb, but no way we could do it in the summer heat. The boat, as I said, stops at BC/YC, BW and Swan/Dolphin on its way to HS. But it's a nice ride down the "river". Not sure how long it would take if you walked over to BC or BW and hopped a bus. Do they even have a bus from there to HS? Not sure. But yes, it is easy to get from HS to EP and vise versa. We usually do the two parks together because I just don't care for HS that much. It is a half day or less park for us, so we usually hop to Epcot that day.

Hello my Friend!!! Wanted to wish you a Happy Easter!!!

Thanks Mo! Love ya!

I'm so impressed with Bradey's meals! What an awesome eater!! :thumbsup2

Thank you. He is a super eater. He loves all his veggies.....usually prefers them raw and right out of the ground, but he eats them cooked if he has to :) I think I should thank my grandparents for that one also. He has been gardening ever since he could toddle. His first word was apple, then tractor! This kid...at a recent birthday party....chose to have watermelon and strawberries over cake. Love him!

Thanks, that is definitely good to know. We have one day planned in HS, but we are going to EP three days (F & W...) So, I figure if we like HS maybe we could just hop over for a bit.....
