Hi DISers-
I am considering taking my 8 y/o boy and 10 y/o girl for a long weekend in March. I have a brave 8 y/o and a fearful 10 y/o. I have 2 questions- 1)How I can manage the 2 different personalities and still make sure they have fun? 2) How do you do rides when one kid clearly has to be left behind at the attraction. The thought of leaving either child on their own at an entrance or exit is just too much for me. If you have done this kind of trip, could you please let me in on your secrets? Thanks so much. Susan(Threehearts) By the way, we will be either staying at the Poly or the Swan/Dolphin.

I just came back from doing WDW on my own with two girls - a fearful 12 year old and a braver 7 year old, so I did experience what you will be going through.

My answer to your first question is that there is so much to do at WDW and so many rides and shows that even fearful children will do, that everyone will have fun, even if you don't get to do all the thrill rides which you and the braver child might want to do. We ended up only going on those rides that everyone could agree on and that worked out just fine.

As for doing a ride where one child might need to be left behind - the thought of doing that was too much for me as well (even if it would have meant leaving the 12 year old behind). We simply did not do those rides and only did the things that everyone could do.

My suggestion would be to sit down together before you go and decide on which attractions everyone will enjoy and focus on those. If there are some that your braver child must do, would that child be able to ride alone with you and your other child waiting at the drop off? I too would be too fearful to leave one child waiting while you ride. I am so glad to see that other Moms are will to venture to the World with kids and no husband. I have just been contemplating the very idea today. My kids have a week long fall break the 1st week in Nov and I know for a fact my husband will not take off work. The only thing is my kids will be 6 and 5. Am I crazy??? :confused3

I hope that the weather is pleasantly warm to swim and then if there are little disagreements between the two of them, we can retire to the pool. My kids love WDW but boy, do they love the resort pool! Thanks, again.
