Dont flame me, it's a long one!
Alright, so I am on the plane home from our Dec 10' Disney World vacation. We spent the first week off property at Sheraton Vistana. We knew what to expect, and did mostly all our NON disney stuff that week (seaworld, universal etc). It was relaxing and very low key.
We couldnt wait to be on property for the second week. We booked Port Orleans Riverside, even though we have never stayed there we decided to try it since it gets such great reviews. Upon arrival it was packed so we walked around a little and noticed all the pools and pool chairs were covered in pine needles, dirt, leaves and just looked awful! Not typical disney, they were all shoved in weird places and some even upside down, the grounds looked like a tornado had come through, now I understand its been cold, but that doesn't mean they can't clean all the pool areas. We thought that perhaps it was a "off" disney day and that by tomorrow the area would be cleaned up, it didnt bother me as much as it bothered my DH. Then we went to check in, and upon booking we requested building 18 in AB section. I completely understand that these are requests and you are not guarenteed, but they shipped us over to building 95 of the Mansion side. The farthest from everything! So we entered the room and it was so musty and moldy we had to leave the door open to get some fresh air. Then we noticed food, large pieces of food all over the floor, the bathroom had toilet paper and stuff on the floor so it was obviously not swept well. Then on the pedistal of the sink I am hoping that what was splattered all over the bottom was chocolate. I didnt get close enough to find out. I called the front desk and they said someone would call us back asap. To make my thread shorter so I dont get flamed ill shorten this part of the story. It took them 2 1/2 hours to return the call and find us a new place to stay. The only option was Coronado Springs. I was a little irritated that we had to go there because we have stayed there and if I wanted to stay there I would have booked it. I asked to have them find out the difference it would be if we stayed at Animal Kingdom and asked if we could use our pin code, and they said they would check, another HOUR later they called back and told me only the Contemporary was available and it was going to cost us an additional 335.00 PER NIGHT and that our pin was no longer good. So sadly we went to Coronado. It took us over an hour to check in there and by this point I was really sad and not feeling magical. I even broke down in tears at the front desk. When I get frustrated I don't yell, I cry. So they put us in a decent located room in the cabanas. Upon entering we noticed a little musty smell but were too tired and sad to worry too much. The next day after returning from the parks my oldest noticed the carpet by her side of the bed next to the bathroom was soaking wet. We though perhaps mousekeeping spilled somthing and we to bed. The next morning it was still soaked so upon closer inspection we notice the carpet was coming up and my husband was able to lift it revealing black mold on the wall and floor under the carpet! UGH! So at 8 am I called the desk, explained the situation and told them we were heading out, gave them my cell number and they said they would let us know asap what was going on. No call by our return at 9 PM from Magic Kingdom. I called again and they said they didnt know anything about it. So shortly they called us back and switched our room, to the OPPOSITE side of the resort. So we had to repack and move again! Rechecking in for the third time! So once in that room we noticed our AC wasn't working but were too tired to bother. We just figured it was Murphys law. Coronado did tell us they would make it up to us some how.
Now to the pixie dust! We were at Hollywood studios our last full day there (fri 17th) and we thought we would upgrade to annual passes so we could get some discounts knowing that we will probably come back. Originally it was going to cost 283.00 a ticket to upgrade and there are 4 of us. When we went to guest relations she told us our tickets had been upgraded to non expiration tickets so it would only be 50 per ticket to add 6 more days to our tickets with no expiration. We thought that was low but decided to do that instead of AP's. (We didnt orig. book no exp. tickets) So she went to charge our card and accidentally credited us 198.10 the amount of the upgrade. Then she realized it was supposed to be way more than that to make our tickets 10 day no expiration. They were supposed to be 798.10! So we were happy with the huge discount mistake on their part. Well went she went to fix the credit on our card because she swipped it so many times it locked our card. We waited about an hour for all this to get fixed, she even called our credit card company to try to get it fixed. We just laughed it off because of all the bad luck we had that it wasn't anything new.
So the credit card company wouldnt budge even with our permission, so the CM went back in the back room for about another 20 mins. She then came out with some good news. Because the credit card thing was disney's fault and we were so patient they decided to give us the tickets for FREE, then they gave us vouchers for snacks, and pins, fast passes for Rockin Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror AND Toy Story Mania! Then she said for our unbelieveable bad luck and patience they threw in a 100.00 gift card! So we were delighted with the news, it made our day! We got 10 FULL days at disney world that never expire for all 4 of us PLUS a 100.00 disney gift card all for free!
If that wasn't good enough, when we went to check out this morning at Coronado we asked about what was going on with the issues that happened earlier in the week. The manager came out and told us, they credited us 236.00 on our account, then added three days that don't expire to our current tickets. So super long story short we got 13 FULL days at Disney and 336.00 back. Earlier in the week we did a DVC tour and they gave us 60.00 in disney gift cards just for going.
So even with all our frustration disney made it right. They really redeemed themselves in the end even if it was by mistake. I was feeling very upset and disapointed by disney and in the end it turned out good. We didnt do any yelling or accusing, we just calmly explained to disney our situation and even though I broke down into tears they took the time to understand after all.
As far as the parks went, it was fairly busy each day we went. This was the busiest time we have seen it ever for this time of year. I dont know if this is the right time for our family to go any more. I think we may try the end of September or go in early November again. It was terrible cold, but even with all the magic disney has they still can't control the weather.
Have a Merry Christmas Disboarders!
