Modifying Room Reservation Question

I am racking my brain trying to figure this out. Right now, I have been adding nights on in an AKV value studio one day at a time, grabbing them as people walk their reservations. I have several nights booked on different reservations which I know I can call and have merged into one. I have only enough points without borrowing to book one more night. But what I want to do is book two more nights and cancel the first night. Do I have to cancel the first night and take a chance on getting the last night, or is there a way to modify the reservation? I'm so afraid to cancel a night to try to grab a night at the end, in fear of being one night short for my trip. I add another element when I would prefer to merge them into two reservations as I would like to try for another resort for the last four nights at 7 months out. So I take it modifying will be out of the question? I hope this makes sense.

If the first night is a night you wish to drop in favour of the last night, just modify that first night instead of cancelling and hoping. This way you only drop it if you get the added night at the end. This works in your case if that first night is a single night reservation. If it is a part of a longer reservation it won't work due to having a bunch of individual nights booked separately.

Ok, so if I have November 10th booked as a separate reservation and want to have November 16th instead, if I see the 16th open, I can just modify November 10th to the 16th?

One more question. What if I want to move my trip back one more night to begin on the 12th, but I have the 11th and 12th booked as one reservation?
If you're just wanting to drop the 11th you would just modify that reservation to remove the 11th and keep the 12th.

But I would need to do that before booking the 17th in order to free up the points. That's where I could risk losing one of my nights.

Yes, to add another night at the same time it won't work due to the multiple short reservations.

Just have the separate reservations merged into one reservation and then you can modify the reservation adding days to the end and dropping days at the beginning in one transaction without the risk of losing the days

The problem with that is that they hope to switch half of the reservation to another resort at 7 months. That would then take out the option to modify at 7 months.

Oops. I apparently stopped reading before the end of their first post. Read everything else, but missed that.

One more question. I have all 7 nights that I want. To reserve something at the 7th month mark for my split stay, should I call and have MS segment my reservations in this way?.....
Nov. 11-13
Nov. 14
Nov. 15-17
The reason I'm thinking doing it this way is what if BRV doesn't have availability on the 14th but they do have availability on the 15th-17th? I'm good with either 3 or 4 nights there.

A reservation can not be split once it is booked as one reservation. If you want a split stay you have to book it that way at the start so you can modify online or wait until 9 at your 7 month window to call and have them modify if rooms are available to switch.

So, if you haven’t booked it like above, it can’t be changed now, unless you try yourself if you have the points. Try to book first two nights again. Then drop from current, etc

It is not booked as one reservation right now. Here's how it is booked:
Nov. 11-12
Nov. 13
Nov. 14
Nov. 15
Nov. 16
Nov. 17
They are all booked as separate days right now except the first two nights. I am wanting MS to merge them, but someone had suggested I don't merge them into one large reservation but have two reservations so I can modify the second half at the 7 month mark.

Okay! I thought it was together when you said split..lol

Yes you can call MS and have them merged together like you suggested. Just tell them why!

So the more I think about how to merge them, the more I think I shouldn't have a separate day in the middle. Because what happens if I modify that one day, but then can't modify the next three days. I sure don't want to move in the middle only to have to move back. I guess I should just decide if I want 3 nights or 4 and merge accordingly?

Yes. Very Good point. Now if you did leave day in the middle, you’d just do that last not first. So, you would not modify that day until you got the last 3.

Then you try for the single day if you want 4. Plus, if you get the 3 and not the single night, you could put in a waitlist..which one nighters have a good chance..or just have merged with the other part.

That sounds like a great idea! I think that's what I will do. Thank you so much for helping me figure all this out!
