Modifying reservations

We are going to Disney in August as a group of 14. I want to book two TS meals--Chef Mickey's and Princess Breakfast in Norway--while we are there.

There is a chance that 2 of our guests, due to medical reasons, may end up canceling out on us.

If I book those reservations now, will I be able to just change them from 14 down to 12 without there having to be new availability? I know if you want to add guests, there still has to be room but didn't know if it was the same for reducing your numbers too.

We would know at least a few weeks in advance so we will be within the time frame for canceling but since I have to give my CC as a guarantee, I just want to be prepared.

Thanks!!

The problem is they cancel your entire reservation and try to rebook at the new size. Then either your new size will show available or not.

You might just make 2 separate reservations one for the larger crowd that you know is going and then for a party of 2 at or about the same time. Then if you need to cancel the party of 2, it won't affect anyone else.

If you all show up, you may have to be seated separately anyway with that party size, but if you let the CM at the reception desk of the restaurant know they will try to seat you all together if possible.

Taking people off the ADR usually isn't a problem. I've called and had them reduce the party size (1 person) on an ADR, and I was not rebooked - they just modified the reservation.

I've also had to show up the day-of (Garden Grill character dinner) with less people than we booked due to unexpected circumstances, and there was no problem. Of course, this was before the new charge for missing a reservation. I'm not sure if the person who didn't show would be charged $10 or not, if the rest of the party was there (I'm kind of thinking not).

I've posted in the past about our experience at Akershus, where we showed up one short due to me being ill in the room. My husband explained I was ill, but we were still charged for the one no show. Akershus has always required a cc guarantee. This was several years ago, prior to the current no show policy. I assumed that as long as the rest of the party showed up we would not be charged the no show fee, but we were.

Thanks everyone. I went ahead and made the reservation for 14 for both our places and won't worry about the extra $10 charge for those two people if they don't come and I can't get it changed in advance.

If they indicate I have to pay for the entire meal, and not just the $10 charge, then we will cancel the reservation and simply re-book it for those that really want to go.
