Modifying an existing dinner reservation

If I make a reservation for 18 people now and then later I have to update it to 12 would I need to cancel my existing reservation and rebook or will they just modify my existing reservation?

I was able to modify mine down from 4 to 3

you should be able to go into the app and just modify it to a lower number.
I wouldn't cancel and then try and rebook as others could be looking at the same time and the ADR could be gone before you rebook.
Much easier to have fewer people than to add people to an ADR.

yeah, definitely don't cancel because you might not be able to get your reservation back doing it online or app. Call Disney dining and talk to the customer service. They should be able to modify the reservation for you.

You should be able to just modify it. For a party that size, some reservations have to be made directly with the restaurant, not through the app. I believe you would also need to modify in the same manner.
