Modified seating on HP FJ/Gringotts?

We leave in less than three weeks for our trip, and I'm starting to think about little details. When we originally planned our trip, I didn't think I would be able to ride the Harry Potter rides because of my size. I have double downed on healthy eating and exercise in the last several months and have lost 30+ pounds. I think that I will be able to ride in modified seating, and will use the test seats to make sure. My question is this: will I be able to ride next to my 9 year old son if I'm in a modified seat? He would not be willing to ride by himself, but I know I wont be able to ride in a regular seat. Are modified seats and regular seats next to each other?

I don't know about Gringotts but yes on FJ you will be able to ride next to your son. The modified seat isn't really modified. All the did was turn the safety sensor to the lowest safe section so you have to get one less click than the other seats. You will sit on either of the outside seats and he would sit on one of the two middle seats. So they go M R R M so just make sure you are in one of the 2 outside seats and then he sits next to you.

Congrats on the hard work Becky! There are several posts on here about the different rides and seat sizes. One of the posts, people were even posting their measurements, so you can compare their experience to what you might encounter on different rides.
If you search on here "pooh sized" a few posts should come up.

Yes, you can ride next to him on both rides. On Forbidden Journey, the modified seats are on the outside. It is a bench with 4 seats, so you will be on the outside, and he will be in a center seat. On Gringotts, they will direct both of you to rows 3 or 6. I was directed to row 1 once and decided to try it - to my surprise, I fit just fine there, too.

ETA: Congratulations on the loss! I lost 25 pounds leading up to this trip and was THRILLED to be able to ride everything.

I would think you would be fine. I was pulled aside during our trip because they were concerned I wouldn't fit, however my issue is shoulder width and my height ( I am 6'6" with a 52 jacket, pretty broad shouldered) and not tummy size (36 waist). I was perfectly fine on the outside, plenty of room next to my 10 year old daughter. Gringotts was not a problem in the least bit, wasn't even asked. The Hulk was another matter, the harness didn't seem to want to agree with my height but they snuggled me in.

Not sure, but just so you know my DH did not fit in the test seat on Gringotts but did fit in the modified seat. He was glad he tried so don't just go by the test seat. Give it a shot. Congratulations on your weight loss.

As others have said, on Forbidden Journey, you will want to sit in seat 1 or 4 (outside seats) and let your child sit next to you. On Escape from Gringotts, you will want to ask for the back row. There is more room to get that weird lap/leg contraption to lock in the back rows. Have fun!
