Moderate vs Deluxe

Starting to think about our next trip, next fall (2013)! DD will be 2 years and 9 months. So, she will still need atleast one nap a day and I assume still go to bed before DH and I.

We are weighing our options between a moderate resort and a deluxe. Are the deluxe resorts worth it? We would LOVE to get something with a seperate space for DD to sleep, so we can actually talk to each other while she is sleeping - but we don't want to totally blow the budget on the room. We have been a number of times and stayed in moderates and our last trip we staped at Swan.

I know a lot of people say "you won't spend that much time in the room anyway", so thats not what I am looking for as far as advice. We are more laid back, DD has already been once (not that she remembers it!), this will be DH 3 or 4th time (all with me) and my 20 plus visit. We will spend time in the room and at the resort.

Just looking for some feedback. Which resort do you think would be the best option for us? GF is close to MK, but yaght club seems to be more our vibe and we love hanging at the boardwalk.

Maybe instead of going deluxe, you can look into either a cabin or a suite at Music or AOA for the privacy. That way when the baby is sleeping, you have a separate room? Just a thought.

Unless you upgrade to a suite at the deluxes, you will still not have a separate sleeping area for your DD. You will likely have a balcony at a deluxe but that is about it. As the PP said, the cabins at FW or one of the value family suites would give you privacy (although the AoA suites are pricey). One other option would be to rent DVC points and get a 1 bedroom suite at one of the deluxes. You would also then have a full kitchen, washer/dryer, etc...As far as deluxes being worth it, it really depends on what you want out of the resort. We usually stay deluxe simply because we prefer either the location or resort amenities or we have rented a 2 bedroom DVC villa so to us, yes they were worth it. However, if you just want a separate sleeping space for DD, upgrading to a deluxe alone won't do give you that.

With 1 little one, I wouldn't feel comfortable in a suite....the "living room" with the pull out beds has access to the exterior door, fridge, bathroom, kitchenette, telephone etc...lots of stuff for a toddler to get into if mom and dad are in a seperate bedroom.
I'd go for deluxe to be monorail/boat close to MK and TTC. Having quick access to MK via boat or bus was great for us. When my girls were little the boat ride back from MK would have them sleeping in a few minutes...of course then I had to carry the little one and drag her DS along. My vote would be WL, of course. If your DD falls asleep first you and DH can spend some quiet time on the balcony before retiring. If your DD is anything like my girls, they always slept while DW and I talked in the room...they could sleep thru anything! As I see it, your only problem, waiting until next fall!!!

If having a separate space is important then renting DVC points for a one bedroom would be a great option for you.
As a previous poster noted, Deluxe or moderate, it's still one room & no separate space for Dd to sleep.

yep, a standard one bedroom at BayLake tower with rented points costs in September (not holiday) is around 1800.00 and would put you walking distance to MK

We only stay deluxe so when the kids go to sleep at least we can have a drink on the balcony.

Staying at YC will give you the advantage of going to the balcony when kids go to bed, so some extra living space. The alcove in the sink area would prob. fit a pack & play, although it may obstruct getting into the bathroom. Other then going for a 1 bdrm villa or cabin there isn't a separate sleeping area.

So getting a room with a balcony would be your best bet. WL may be a good option, cheaper then YC, and has a boat to MK. Rooms are a bit smaller then YC, but they have balconies too.

Hi! I, too, am in the beginning stages for our fall trip next year. We went last Thanksgiving week and took a day off to tour resorts. Me, personally, I want to stay at the Polynesian but my kiddos want AoA. We will see who wins . The reason I want to stay here is because of the monorail. I love it and it's super quick travelling. If we can't stay here I may end up in the cars area of AoA which won't be bad either!!

We stayed in moderates while my son was a toddler. It worked fine. There was room for a pack and play (now that I think about it, though, the beds used to be full size, now they are queens, so not sure there is as much room now...).

We had a curtain between the main room and the sink/vanity area. What worked for us at ds' bedtime: I got him settled in his pack and play in main room, then pulled a chair into the vanity area and sat there behind the curtain and read a book till he fell asleep. This worked fine for us. A lot of parents might find that a hassle, and would rather just have a two-room suite. If you would feel that way, by all means I would look into a suite or cabin. But honestly, that quiet break to sit alone and read was very welcome at that point in my day!

Of course, we moved to the Poly and CR once we started getting good discounts, and we love them both! THe rooms are bigger, and being SO close to the MK via the monorail was so convenient. We had a balcony during both our Poly stays, and they were great, but every Poly room does not have a balcony. We loved the CR, too. We were in the Garden wing, where, again, there are no balconies, but we were on the 1st floor so we had a patio. I've never stayed at the YC or GF, so I can't comment on them, other than they look gorgeous.

We are going back to a moderate this year, due to price, though. I know we will enjoy it just as much as we did the Deluxes. So my personal opinion is that deluxes are "worth" some price increase. But are they worth the best rate we could find this year? Not for us. For you they may be, though. Either way, I know you will have a great trip!

Well we went when our DS was about the same age as your DD, we did spend a little more time in the room, he needed to run around and play, also nap time. Space is a plus GF offers the monorail, that is a huge plus, I don't know much about the YC but another resort I think you should think about is AKL, the animals are cool for any kid that age.

We are doing a deluxe room at the WL next summer. It has a separate, closed off sleeping area for our son and that made it a plus -- but its club level so its a bit more expensive. Renting points for a 1br villa is also a great idea.

Thanks everyone! Lots to think about...but we have time (is that a good thing or a BAD thing ). DH says we need to wait and see how her sleeping habits change before we start thinking about it. Well, that doesn't sound fun at all! I am ready to start planning.

If you want more square footage a Dlx will give you that over a Mod. If you are wanting a seperate living room a DVC one bedroom will give you that over a Dlx or a Mod. A Dlx will give you a balcony for you and your DH to hang out on whereas a Mod. won't. We used to stay in the Mod.s when our oldest was little and never had any trouble with staying up and chatting or watching tv while he slept, but he can also sleep through the house alarm. The exterior door and balcony have high locks that I seriously doubt your young children will be able to get to. If you are thinking of renting DVC points for the one bedroom and want something convenient to MK and/or Epcot I'd look at BLT, VWL, BCV or BWV.

We took our youngest right before his 2nd birthday. We got a one bedroom the SSR, as there were 5 of us. He needed a nap and we needed the break. It worked out well, as we went back during the day and the bus stop was right there up the walkway from our room so he slept in the pack-n-play in the bedroom while we played cards and watched tv with the older kids in the living room/sleeper sofa area with the dining table.

With that being said, now that we are a family down to 4 and littlest DS is going to be 7, we appreciate the EP Deluxe rooms because we can walk to DHS or EP and take the monorail pretty quickly to MK.

We don't do naps but I will be honest, if it is hot or a busy day, it is nice knowing that convenience is there. Plus, there is a balcony (we stayed at YC last year, ground level so it was a patio) to sit and enjoy the afternoon and you can see straight into the room to make sure that she doesn't get into anything, should she wake up. It is also great to view the EP fireworks if you get one on the beach side. It is also nice to have the boat option, as our DD15 tends to fall asleep, regardless of the time,on the boat.

I hope this helps. If not, the option of off-site might be a consideration. You could use a car for the speedy getaways and plan better that way.

One thing to consider is that if you stay at a Deluxe you will have a balcony. You and your husband could sit out on the balcony while the little one sleeps. That is always a huge deciding factor for us to stay at a Deluxe. I dont like having people looking in our room if the blinds are open and I enjoy the balcony.
