I'm new around here, but I've read here about discount codes that come along making the resorts more affordable. I am planning a trip in May for my 40th birthday, my son's 5th birthday, and our 16th anniversary.

We are spending the first week of our trip in my parents' time share, but I want to be on-site for the final four nights.

As a family of 5, our choices are limited to POR, a deluxe, or two rooms at the All-Stars.

We stayed at POR (Dixie Landings then) about 5 years ago and liked it well enough. My dream is to stay at one of the monorail resorts, though. We stayed at the Poly for our honeymoon. My practical dh thinks we should get the two value rooms.

If I book at POR and then good rates come out that allow us to afford a Deluxe, will I be able to switch the reservations? If I book a Deluxe now hoping for better rates, can I "down grade" if needed without penalty? When do codes usually come out for a May visit?

Thanks for all of your help! I've learned a lot already just lurking around.

You can always book now and cancel later. It depends on who you book through, but you should be able to cancel without penalty up to 45 days before your arrival date.

I would book the Deluxe and then change later if you must. Hopefully, you will be able to get a good deal. I just turned 40, and you really do need to do something extra special. Try to make an appointment at a spa. I hear the Grand Floridian has a nice one.:smooth:

Thanks so much for your information. I think I have dh convinced to book at the Contemporary and see what happens as the time gets closer.

When you reserve, make sure you use Disney's CRO (Central Reservation Office) instead of WDTC (Walt Disney Travel Company). CRO usually offers much more attractive cancelation terms (special packages may be excluded from this). Calling WDW's main reservation number can get you either operation, so ask them if they're CRO vs. WDTC... If they say "WDTC", then ask them to flip over to the CRO reservation system and process your reservation.

Thanks so much for that information...I think I read that on Mousesavers, too, which I found by using this board.

You are all so helpful!
