Does anyone know if there is a store that sells model trains anywhere in WDW? We are just getting into model trains with our kids and thought this might be a nice souvenir to bring home.

Sorry. but no.

The DO sell a battery-operated model of the Monorail.

But, there are very few toy train sets available.

They might still have a rather poor (plastic track, toy-quality) G gauge (roughly) WDW Railroad train.

For limited time, a couple of years ago, they sold a very nice HO gauge working model of the WDW Railroad train.
It is no longer made or sold.

HERE is a video of my setup
featuring the monorail and some of the (formerly available) Disney models.

As an avid model railroader, I haven't seen any model trains offered for sale at Walt Disney World -- however my memory of the Germany pavilion at Epcot is not entirely clear if they do or do not have some model trains for sale there.

That said, Walt Disney was an avid model railroader -- 'tis why we get to ride the trains at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. He built a 1/8 scale railroad in his backyard, the Carolwood Pacific and named the locomotive the Lilly Belle after his wife Lillian.

Bachmann Trains has reproduced the Carolwood Pacific with the Lilly Belle locomotive in HO scale -- it can be seen at their website and ordered through any reputable local hobby shop.

Some of Walt Disney's own model trains can be seen at Wilderness Lodge and I recall seeing some at Old Key West, as well.

Great info! We are going in June and my DD's boyfriend will be going with us and his Dad is a BIG train colector. He was hoping to be able to find a neat souvenier but it would also be neat to be able to take some pics over at the WL.

This is why I was hoping there was a store dedicated to this hobby maybe at DTD. Oh Well:(
