I am going on the Disney Magic next week, and it's my first cruise. I use a cane and walker, have difficulty walking long distances. Anyone else had problems getting around either on the ship or during boarding/disembarking? It's the only thing I'm concerned about. Any advise is appreciated, Thanks

You should not have any problem because of the terminal or the ship‘s configuration. There are no steps when you get on, and there are ramps and elevators to get everywhere. However, there will be long distances to walk both in the terminal and onboard. The middle of the ship is mainly use for staterooms and public spaces are often at the very front or the very back of the ship.

If sitting down helps you, there are plenty of seats in public spaces on decks 3, 4 and 5 and on top deck.

Thank you! My walker has a seat built in, so I can sit if I need to. I appreciate your feedback.

Embarkation and debarkation for the cruise and at Castaway Cay are typically along straight paths. At Castaway Cay, there is a tram that leaves not far from the dock and takes you to the central area and to the adult beach.

There may be a few stair steps when debarking in other ports — I can’t remember. If there are, the cruise staff will assist you as much as they can.

The one unfortunate issue on the ship is how rude people are on the elevators. You and your family will need to be a bit aggressive if you’ve been waiting and others cut in front of you. Best plan is to have a family member get in the elevator and hold the spot for you

Several years ago, my uncle traveled with us and he also used a walker. We were able to request a wheelchair to help with embarkation and debarkation using Disney's form - https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/special-services-information-form/
That may be more than you need, but I wanted to let you know.

The only port that was a challenge was Grand Cayman due to the tender. But, the crew did help with the steps. Everyplace else had a ramp.

In the Walt Disney theatre, cast members will escort through a side door on deck 3 for the accessible seating in the front row. There is also accessible seating in the back row. In the Buena Vista movie theatre the accessible seating is in the back.

I will suggest that you head to deck 4 for the muster drill early, as the elevators can be an issue.

Thanks for that information.

My wife was recovering from ankle fusion on our cruise on the Wonder last October. While she could walk with a cane for short distances, the long walks at the airport and port were a too long. I recommend taking advantage of the wheelchair services offered at different locations. It was a lifesaver. We also lucked out when I realized the ship had a limited number of loaner wheelchairs. Head to GS ASAP and find out if you can borrow one.

i would recommend renting a mobility scooter from Special Needs at Sea. They deliver it to your stateroom and pick it up from there at the end. I use a walker but my balance isn't very good. The slight motion on the ship made it hard for me to walk. Plus getting from one end of the ship to the other is quite a hike. The scooter was a real life saver for me.
