I tried a couple different searches with no luck - but if anyone knows and can post, I would appreciate them.

My mom is coming on this next trip with us. She just had knee replacement surgery and I'm guessing will either a) be in a wheelchair in the parks or some type of people mover b) be partly walking/riding

Many of the rides have the moving walkway which there is no way she would be able to get on. Are there other accomodations for her? I'd hate to think she will miss so many of the rides, but can't imagine how she would get on those moving walkways or step into boats, etc.

They absolutely do! For rides like this, such as the Haunted Mansion, they have a special way for people with mobility issues to get on the ride. I would recommend going to the DISabilities board for more info!

Similar experience! My Nana had two knee replacements and we rented her an ECV scooter that was delivered to our room. Much less expensive than renting one from Disney and we knew we would never have to worry about them selling out :)

All of the rides that have a conveyor belt to get on the ride can be stopped so she can get on. (Buzz Lightyear, Spaceship Earth, Peter Pan, etc.) Just tell the person loading you that you have to have the belt stopped. Its a non-issue.

The ONLY ride my Nana had trouble with was Rock N Roller Coaster...they gave her the handicap car but the loader never opened the little door for us on the side. We figured it out when we exited and the CM at the exit opened the door for her. So YES they do have a little door on the Handicap car. Just make sure to ask for that car. Then she can literally just walk right into it without having to step down into it.

Space Mtn would have been impossible for her to pull herself up and out so we didn't try that but she did EE!

(She was almost 79 when we took her and she did ALL the thrill rides!)

Have a great time! RENT the EVC!!!

Oh and HM you have to enter thru the exit to get on :)

Always ask the cast members at the entrance to a ride where you go with someone in her situation.

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

The majority of attraction lines in WDW are "mainstreamed". This means that a wheelchair or ECV will use the regular entrance and line all the way to either a show seating or ride load area. If a line is not mainstreamed there will be signs and/or Cast Members to direct you where to go.

If a show, normally there will be spaces to park a chair or ECV and there will be seats next to the space for other members of the group.

If a ride, usually you will have to transfer to a ride vehicle, although some rides will allow a person in a wheelchair to remain in their chair. If you have to transfer to a ride, and unload is not at the same location as load, your ECV will magically appear at the unload area.

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Note that Post #2 discusses mobility and equipment. Post #3 had a wide variety of information and links; it might be a good idea to look at the various park "Guidebook For Persons With Disabilities" for more detailed information.

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

All the rides cannot be stopped, some are slowed down and some (like Peter Pan) cannot be stopped. Please look at the FAQs at the top of this forum for the correct information.
