Moana 2, Zootopia 2, Frozen 2, Inside Out 2 but still no news about a follow-up to Raya and the Last Dragon?

Thought for sure that one would get a sequel at some point, or at least a series/spinoff. Was really hoping it would, the depth of potential lore in Kumandra is too rich to not explore further.

A lot of the 2020-2021 movies weren't great hits at the box office due to covid and people being hesitant to go to theaters. Later on Disney+ they did well but I would expect them to make a sequel to something like Encanto way before even considering Raya. It had a much more popular following and an amazing soundtrack. Not to mention they will have the Encanto expansion at Animal Kingdom to promote

While I agree, I don't think Raya did the numbers the originals of the others did that justified the sequel(s).

Yes, that is likely based on when it came out - just as theaters were opening up post-covid when not a lot of people were going to the movies.

Raya would be good to revisit as a series - something with the animation style like Tangled: The Series. That might be a better and less costly way to do more with the characters. It was actually a pretty good movie.

I'm not trying to be funny or snarky but I genuinely forgot that movie existed or that Disney even made it. I don't know many other people who remember it either. Didn't seem like a really big hit for Disney so it probably won't get much going forward.

Sisu is up there as one of my all-time favorite Disney characters now, alongside Bolt, Skippy from Robin Hood, Finnick from Zootopia and Bernard from The Rescuers.

That's why I was hoping this movie would eventually get a follow-up of some kind.

The reason why Raya And The Last Dragon will most likely see a cartoon series rather than Raya And The Last Dragon II was because Raya And The Last Dragon like Onward was released during the pandemic and with Disney+ making Raya And The Last Dragon a pay to watch movie at first it wasn't a successful movie like they thought it was expected to be. But like Tangled Raya And The Last Dragon would be an excellent cartoon series for Disney to pull a home run out of the ballpark with. Because I think when Raya And The Last Dragon was announced and released people thought it was gonna be like Mulan and when they saw Raya And The Last Dragon people were disappointed because the movie when I first learned about Raya And The Last Dragon the movie was styled like a video game and could've been a cartoon series. But I can say that Raya And The Last Dragon was the beginning of Disney making animated movies that didn't achieve the acclaim they received and the same thing happened with Strange World in 2022 and Encanto was the film that made Disney get back on it's feet. But even with merchandise deals Raya And The Last Dragon could've done better in my eyes

“Strange World” and “Lightyear” were both released in the theatres AFTER “Encanto” … so, if Disney was back on its feet, they fell flat again with these two films… ppl can argue about the reasons they were not successful, but not going to get into that.

Basically, if you build a good movie, they will come …

I would completely dig this. They built a really interesting world with this movie, it would be great to expand on the lore in a series, from showing the five tribes reforging their bonds, Raya and Namaari mending their damaged relationship, Sisu getting into all sorts of goofy trouble as she re-explores the world in the present, etc.

I always thought it would make a good world for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 4. Raya is literally a "Princess of Heart", Heartless can take on a Druun theme, various party members like Tong and even Namaari, and Sisu would become a Summon/D-Link upon completion of the world.

Just because it was released at a bad time doesn't mean Disney needs to memoryhole it as if it never existed. Especially when the material they have to work with for a sequel/series is impressive.

I love Raya so much. It has great replay value too. Wish it would've been a big hit but am thrilled whenever I see her represented in the parks like on a parade float or some merch.

Yea I went and saw it in theatres and enjoyed the movie myself, and I forget it even exists most of the time.
