We have a very busy September/October, but we don't want to break our MNSSHP attendance (9 in a row!). How busy are the party dates during Columbus weekend? We've been at sold out parties in the past, and have attended on Halloween or the weekend before Halloween. Face characters aren't important to us, we're there for the parade, rides, shows, and trick'er'treating.

Also is the party usually on the Sunday or the Monday (Columbus day itself)? The big reason we're picking that weekend is we can take the trip without taking a day off work - obviously that won't work if the party is on Monday night.

We've gone to the halloween party on the Friday night of Columbus day weekend the last couple of years. We found it fine.
Happy planning!

I don't know about "usually" but on my 2014 trip, Sunday was not a party night and Monday was. I didn't do the parties, but I specifically went to MK on party days (daytime crowds much lower on those days!) when we exited at 7 it was pretty jam-packed on Main Street with party arrivals and day guest departures, but I couldn't speak to the crowds during party time.

We were there in 2015 and left for home later afternoon on the Sunday of Columbus day weekend and I do not believe it was a party night. I think in 2015 the party was also on the Monday of Columbus Day weekend not Sunday. I think that may be a problem for you unless something changes this year. The dates usually come out in February.

We went to the Friday party and it was fine. I can't remember if it was sold out, but it probably was. It was busier that the party we attended earlier that week, but not a problem at all especially if you aren't that interested in the characters. If you can do the late parade, it shouldn't be a problem. That Friday night, we got a front row curb spot for the 2nd parade up in Town square about 10 minutes before it started.

On Columbus Day weekend, there will usually be a party on Friday and Monday. I think both are very busy.

I went to MNSSHP on the Friday before Columbus day two years ago and it was great. We didn't experience any waits for trick or treating and the ride lines were very short.

I will be there the same weekend. I'm hoping for a Sunday night party but if not I will be there Friday.
