I just made a batch of Peppermint Bark. Usually save making it for Christmastime, but I was in the store this morning & the package of Almond Bark was just calling to me!

It's quite dangerous that Peppermint Bark is so easy to make!

candy canes are being sold already?????

I tried last year, but had a hard time melting the chocolate. It looked ugly but tasted yummy!

I think my microwave is not powerful enough to melt the chocolate efficiently.

I will try again this year.

Try using the Almond Bark instead of real chocolate. It's pretty foolproof

Yummy!!! I usually just buy my peppermint bark, I have plenty of other stuff to make, so I cheat on this one. Soooooo good!

Can you post or send me a copy of your recipe?? I would love to learn how to make it, that stuff is definitely dangerous :teeth:

ooohhhhh! Please post the recipe! That sounds soooo good!

Bring on the holiday cooking!

All I do is buy a package of Almond Bark (the vanilla flavored) and melt it in the microwave, then stir in 20 crushed up Starlight mints. Spread the mixture out on a sheet pan lined w/ parchment & let it harden. Once it's hardened, break it into pieces.

Sooo easy & good!

For anyone who doesn't know what Almond Bark is:

I'm not sure you really want a powerful microwave for this. If you over cook the chocolate, it starts to get hard & grainy. The chocolate is usually ready before it looks like it. You need to try to stir it to see if it's done. (sometimes it still has its original shape) I stir it until it looks smooth.

BTW - I use melting caps, not chocolate chips or pieces. These have always worked the best for me.

Another way to try it - if you have an old electric frying pan, you can fill it about halfway with water & heat it until it starts to steam. Reduce the heat to the lowest setting. Put custard cups with chocolate in them into the water. I do this when we're dipping things (pretzels, dried fruit, etc) & molding shapes to keep it warm. I usually do my "bark" at the end.

I've seen other "recipes" for it, but by far my favorite is to just crush peppermints or candy canes & mix the crushed stuff into melted chocolate & pour out onto wax paper or tin foil to cool. We prefer to use the white or dark chocolate for this. Milk chocolate just doesn't work IMHO. If we've been molding shapes, we usually have "red" melting caps, too. So at the end, we drizzle the leftover red over the white stuff we've poured out. It looks more festive that way.

The stuff I have tried has a thin layer of chocolate, then white chocolate with crushed candy cane on top of that. I need regular chocolate to balance out the white. Either way I might have to buy some very soon thanks to this thread. ;)

Yummmmy. I have never made it but ordered some last year from Vermont Nut Free Chocolate (for my peanut allergic son). I swear I ate most of it!! It was regular chocolate on one side, white chocolate on top and then the peppermint pieces sprinkled on top.

::yes:: Real chocolate has to be tempered. Otherwise it gets that "whitish" look to it.

How do you make Peppermint bark? I've seen it in upscale gourmet catalogs, but never tried to make it myself...

I would probably need to have real chocolate, too, so I may just have to settle for it being ugly. Then I wouldn't be able to give it away, and have to eat it all myself....:( :teeth:

Look up about 5 replies :teeth:

You can find it all over hrh - Williams Sonoma has it (too expensive in my opinion). You can also find it at Cost Plus World Market, Linens and Things, etc.

The recipe looks easy and sounds wonderful! Thanks!

And the picture on your post is PRECIOUS!!!

Our local Walmarts have had some the past two years. It can be addicting!:)
