MM Warriors Part Deux (As of October 27)

Kathy - maybe falling arches? Just a though, since it happened to my Dad after years of running mini marathons and then walking alot after a torn achilles stopped him from running...

I was actually thinking on that same thought. I may try to get shoes with a higher arch. I hope that is what it is. Thankfully I don't have to wear shoes for a whole day!! And thankfully the highest heel I wear is a tennis shoe LOL. Except for a wedding. Then it was a 3" heel!! I made sure to tell my usher to walk slowly and make sure I was on the carpet or I'd kill myself. But I love those shoes!!!

Howdy once again! Had enough of me yet? :teeth:

I wanted to tell you all that my eldest daughter Abbie, (and her health nut husband) started this WOE last Friday. She is doing so very well. She had this down so fast, it amazed me. She did like so many of you, planning her meals and adding an additional starch or grain or veggie to it for her DH and boys. She's a confessed carbaholic and needs off the sugar. She's still b'feeding her one year old and will be done with that soon and know's she will pay dearly if she doesn't get the carbs out of her diet soon. She doesn't have many pounds to lose, just needs to get a grip on healthy eating. She went directly to the new boards listed on Dianes site and I sent her a quick "no no!" and redirected her back to the old LCF's boards to reread all our bazillion posts and recipes. After thinking about it I thought maybe we could invite her here? I know I can answer most all of her questions but you all do it so much better than I do! lol Would any of you mind?

I also have my sister and her BF out looking for the book today, they plan on starting very soon as well. He is a diabetic and has an appointment with a dietician soon and wants to take Dianes book with him to the first appointment. Neither one of them will go any where near a computer so I'll be their sole support system, makes me a little nervous, but I think I can handle it.

I see that most of you are planning on trying to stay on plan during the holidays, props to you all, I admire you so much for that! :dance3: Not me, I won't even try to fake myself out in thinking that I might. I will have at least 25 guests and everyone helps add to the meal, with me doing all the basics. Last year I took one to two tablespoons of each thing served and was very content. I plan on trying the same thing this year.
Laura, I love the FB idea, I didn't know they had private groups either. I think it would be a great way to share pictures and an alternate way to stay in touch. Once I found LCF's :surfweb: I bailed on FB and only go there when one of my kids tell me I need to!

Robin I also wanted to tell you that I've been doing a lot of reading about this stubborn tummy thing we have going on. The general consensus seems to be that interval training is the most effective and targeting deep abdominal fat. You might want to address this with your trainer to get the timing down and see if it might help some?

Okay, it's great to be back! (((Great Big Hugs))) to everyone. I will make it a point to get back into addressing you all on a more personal level. I'm going to have to visit first thing or last thing like so many of you do, once things really settle back down here.

You all have a terrific rest of your day!

Pam,

I set up a private group and no one will even know we are there. I sent out invites to everyone here that I am already friends with on MM warriors. I am not replacing this board!! Just another place we can hang out and share pictures. If you want me to add you to the group I just need your facebook name, Mine is Laura Aiken Fernandez.

OK, so the black bean soup is not only easy but GOOD too! Yay! I think Jocelyn put the recipe on the thread if anyone wants to try it. I feel all kind of healthy now! LOL

Pam - so glad to hear from you! That is so amazing that you are in your size 12's!! GREAT JOB!! I dont know why that tummy bulge refuses to go...seems like Diane said that would be something we would notice early on? but then she did tell me it might be the last thing to go...Im hitting her with alot of questions when I e-mail her on Friday!!

Lisa - are the pomegranate seeds crunchy? And do they have a definite flavor? Fruity? Im AFRAID!!!

Laura - no medical field for me after 20 years of Police work I saw enough medical emergencies to last me forever!! I knew about State Farm pulling out of Florida awhile back...Nationwide actually pulled out two years ago and the only thing we do there now is auto in just a few counties, and continue to service any policyholders with homeowners insurance until they are due to renew...then they are automatically cancelled...thats what State Farm is doing now...not writing any new business, just servicing the old...the only company still writing Florida that is worth doing business with is Foremost...they are a specialty company, and only deal with certain counties too...there have just been so many horrific losses there the past 10 years it is impossible for companies to stay profitable and still write business there. We dont write ANYTHING at all in Louisiana any more either...and we are now informed that California is heading in the same direction due to all the wildfire losses the past 5-6 years...I got a call from a woman the other day whose home was at the very top of some mountain with no access out except a single road, and that road was engulfed in the most recent fire!! She was so pissed off at me when I told her I was sorry but could not help her out...she had gotten the same answer from many companies and demanded that I tell her what she was supposed to do to get insurance!! She wasnt happy with my response that she should sell the house and move to a safer area!! I guess some folks just think it will never happen to them!

The wildfires have really been crazy!! Thank goodness this year has been quite for Hurricanes!!! I don't think people could take any more stress before they snap :scared1:

I forgot about the police thing, you guys really see it all!

Robin: The seeds are crunchy and juicy at the same time. It’s the only part of the pom that you eat, so yeah, it’s fruity. I think God meant for us to eat a lot of them or he wouldn’t have made them so good for you:)

It's recently been well documented that we can learn a lot about cancer prevention from the Mediterranean diet. If you don't like olives, you can use olive oil.

Oh, guess what else? Our local news did a story a couple of nights ago on the spices that can help save your life. Turmeric, coriander...I can't remember them all.

Hey Kate - nice to see you, wondered where you were too!

Laura - Im joining the FB group! Thanks! Im gagging with you on the olive thing...YUK, I can do olive oil though...doesnt taste like olive!!

Pam - dont worry about addressing everyone individually...the nice thing about this small group is we all know whats going on with everyone!! I know I dont have a problem with you inviting your daughter here...and Im sure the others wont either!! I will definitely speak with my trainer about the interval training...Im basically familiar, but never really did it, so ANYTHING to help move the belly bulge is a GREAT IDEA by me!! THANKS!

Lisa - ok, sounds like I can probably deal with the pomegranate thing...now I just have to find some!!

Hey Bev - think its time for a new thread? I see we are over 1000 posts again!!

Kathy - I think the higher arch thing might help...I just thought of my Dad when you started describing how it felt...sounded like his complaints too! The inserts helped him alot and he eventually got to start doing some short jogging again.

Lisa, I've seen the Pomegranate fruit in the grocery, but I didn't know how to eat them. It's interesting that you just eat the seeds. I wonder what type of climate the tree grows in? The news show about spices sounds interesting!

Laura, up here in this area there is such a serious sinkhole problem, that the only insurance available in Holiday is government sponsored insurance. And I hear it is extremely pricey. My landlord has a minimal catastrophic insurance, but he's got enough money to take the loss if something should happen.

Pam, it's great to hear from you! I think it would be lovely to meet your daughter. :) Is she a peaceful type?

I've been very busy again today. :) It's still a mess around here though! Can you believe that we've only been here since April and we're already getting too much clutter? Well, I'm going to put a couple of things out on the curb and list them for free on facebook as soon as the rain leaves. Hopefully tomorrow. I'm glad the ground is getting much needed water.

I made rice with black beans to go with dinner tonight. I managed to make the brown rice good. I had to use more water than white and cook it for longer on a lower heat. The Sazon spice has a lot of turmeric, so I got some nice health benefits from it. I'd like to make a black bean soup. I need to check if Jocelyn's soup is for black soy beans or black beans. I can't use too much soy. A friend of mine used to make a black bean soup that was wonderful. I wish I had her recipe.

My cat is massaging me. It might be nice if she didn't have daggers at the end of her paws! Actually, if I could just get her to move over to my lower back that would be ideal. :lmao: I moved furniture around today.

My new gold fish are getting tame. I didn't want to put tons of money into fish when I don't know when we are moving, so I went with goldfish, and then saved a couple of feeders. When I walk back and forth near the tank now they are all following me. :fish: :fish: :fish: I think they figured out I'm the food lady.

Well, I've got to check a couple of things. I'll check in a bit later!

Nell - I made black bean soup today!! the recipe is on the thread here, I think Jocelyn posted it for me...very easy and good too! we are getting rain too, I guess we need it, but it made for a rather gloomy day...I cant believe how much junk I have accumulated in the 3 years since I moved...I threw away TONS of stuff before I moved and it seems to have followed me!!

The mocha flavored spenda was a yummy addition to my decaf today...I just hope they continue to carry it at Walmart, since I was so surprised to find it I bought one in every flavor!!! I took my ricotta and stirred in some PB and then some of the Polaner 2g black raspberry jelly...just kind of swirled the jelly in and it is SO GOOD!

I think that most of Ida went up toward you and some of it came southeast toward us. That means our rain is both of the same origin! :) Kind of weird where we are so far away from one another.

Went to PF Changs for dinner after a hard, stressful day and had a filthy, extra dirty martini with extra olives and no one better say anything about it! I'll never share another recipe with olives again. We had steamed shrimp with snow peas and coconut curried vegetables with brown rice. SYTYCD is on tonight. We're going to see them live on tour on Monday night for Mom's birthday. Can't wait. Cya tomorrow!

I LOVE olives Lisa. Any kind of olives. Black, green, kalamata, stuffed with feta.... YUMMMMMMOOOOOOO! Our local Wegmans has an olive bar and cheese bar. It's one of my favorite things the store has!

We live in the hills here on the California coast and 3 yrs ago , I couldn't find any insurance to cover our house. I finally found Liberty Mutual. I think they're out of Omaha, Nebraska. I pay about $1400/yr but at least I have insurance. I could not afford to replace this home if anything happened. The local fire dept comes around every spring and makes sure that people clear around their homes or issue them citations. I think that helps.

Kathy, I had the planter heel problem a few years ago and it was very painful. Mine hurt most when I got up in the morning. Does yours? My podiatrist made insoles for my shoes and told me to take an anti- inflammatory like Ibuprofen 600mg 4 times a day for a few weeks. It took awhile, but it worked. Don't know if this helps.

Pam, You are so lucky to have a baby to snuggle! Are you just inhaling that wonderful newborn scent? How special that you get to have Audri around so much. My daughter and her husband live in our downstairs apartment with their 2 boys and I love it! Hope your situation is as good.

Daniele, Pomegranates grow where I live and also in southern calif, as I had one growing up. They come from a large, bush type plant. My parents would mash them and strain them and make pomegranate jelly. Very rich and tasty!

Laura, I have a FB account, but I sure don't know how to use it. I'll send you my account name if you decide to set a MM FB account up. I really don't understand the writing on people's walls and sending hearts and all that. I'll give it a try if ya'll want to post there.

Lisa, I'm with you. I LOVE olives of any kind. I bought some green olive and artichoke tapenade that we used a lot on step 1 with cream cheese on Julian Bread. It was yummy! By the way, did you ever hear back from the Julian people about the facts on their 1 carb bread? Love to hear what they said.

Robin, Sorry that Ken won't be around for Thanksgiving. Do you have other family coming or are you going someplace? Hang in there!

Hi Kate, I see you got some rain the other day. Lucky you! We might get some on Thurs...hopefully.

Lol! I didn't get the FB thing at first either. The first day I was poked and tattooed and was like huh?? It's fun!

I think that olives are wonderful! I love olive recipes. One I particularly like is a Jamaican recipe, and I don't remember all the specifics. It has browned hamburg with onions, green olives and raisins of all things. I was really freaked upon looking at it the first time until I tasted it. Wow. I don't think we can use raisins, but there's probably similar recipes with other fruits.
