MM Warriors Part Deux (As of October 27)

Carol and Nell: Is it possible for you to know at lunchtime when your dinner will be? I almost always schedule in a carb dam at 3, since I know dinner will be more than 5 hours from lunch. I have a cup of tea and a snack at around 3 - 3:30. I don't think it's best to try to cram one in while you're cooking and approaching your deadline. If you go to bed really early after dinner and you get up within 5 hours to go to the bathroom, you could probably skip that bedtime snack until you've been asleep for awhile. I'd say err on the side of caution though and put it in at bedtime if you have any doubts because eating a few grapes, for example, is much better than eating a bagel in your sleep!:scared1:

I don't know Lisa. I have such a weird schedule and am completely undisciplined. What's I've been doing is eating an 11-20 gram carb every 4.5 hours. More often than not it doesn't fall on a meal time. My goal eventually is to get into the habit of eating meals like most people do. I'm afraid if I tried to determine if there was going to be more than five hours between lunch and dinner etc. that I'd be messing the times up all over the place, having too much carb than too little and ending up always messing the times up.

Of course, you know what you can handle, Nell. Do you think you should ask Diane if it matters if the carb dam is with other foods? I tend to think it should be with a protein and of course, with a veg is another good idea, and then there you go, you're talking about a meal, lol! I don't mean to put any stress on you unduly. I've been keeping a note pad by the sink and making a mark for my waters and writing down when I should eat and take my vitamins. It can be different every day, which is a cool feature of this WOE. The bottom line is you feel great, so that counts for a lot. Today I put down a place setting a the table for myself at lunchtime and worked on a project while I had lunch, but it was nice to make it kind of a calm time to enjoy. I like that.

Thanks Everybody! Its a Visa gift card, so I think I will tuck it away for now and maybe use it for some smaller clothes when the time comes!

Lisa - I know you will be in that jacket by new years, no PROBLEM!! Maybe I should dig out something I REALLY want to wear again and use that for inspiration!

Nell - its good that you are getting in your carb dams when you need them, but that is one thing that Diane specifically told me when I was discussing my troubles with step 2 with her...I was doing the same thing, and just eating the carbs without a meal...she said the basis of step 2 is an 11-20 carb with all three meals, bedtime, and middle of the night....then adding in another any time that meals would be further apart than 5 hours...just wanted to let you know...maybe you could rethink your meal planning and use your alarm to be sure you are eating them around the same time? Or just be sure to eat SOMETHING else with your carb dams? I think it has something to do with carb absorption being slowed down when they are combined with other foods. JMHO!! Maybe if you started over one morning and started with a meal and an 11-20, then organized yourself for the rest of the day from there?:confused3

That is a good point you are both making about the carbs needing to be eaten with other foods. Most of the time (except for the middle of the night) I do that. I'm not sure why. Maybe I'm eating meals every 4.5 hours? :lmao:

Like today I've eaten,

7:30 am (still asleep) applesauce
noon, scrambled eggs and oatmeal
4:30 Tuna on whole grain wrap (wrap 17 carbs)
9:00 my plan is to have broccoli soup and a smoothie (whey fiber base with cocoa)

Then if I'm still awake at 1am, I'll cook some eggs probably with oatmeal again, but if not I usually pack an 8 ounce cup with a screw cap of plain yogurt (bell makes them) and an applesauce and keep it beside the bed with a spoon. Then when the alarm goes off (happens two times while I'm sleeping) I eat one of them and fall back to sleep.

It almost sounds like I'm eating many, many meals huh?

Pony, I like your new signature also. I liked the last one too. You definitely have a way with words.

My darling, Nell, You are eating meals! The artist in you just wants to be free of restriction, but the meals are there all the same. I know, you can come up with a new name for your times of partaking!:lovestruc

:rotfl: I guess your right! I will not be bound by conventionalism! :hippie:

I just read an article that says we could eliminate 100,000 cases of cancer a year if we cured obesity. Are we ever doing this at the right time???!!!What a blessing we have found MM!:grouphug:

Wow, that is amazing. Did the article say what aspect of obesity causes the cancer, or is it because it's harder to catch something early in the obese?

Ok, I feel better after reading that Nell! You are eating other foods with your carbs most of the time! somehow I mis-understood and thought you were just eating the 11-20 carbs alone!!

Well, as the chief of police, you need to keep an eye on these things!

Good evening everyone! All is well here. Getting ready to hit the hay. Exhausted so I won't be up late for sure.
Lisa, thanks for the idea about easing into it. I think I'll give it a try. Usually when we turn the clocks in the spring is when I have difficulty like this. Just seems a bit out of character for me.
The train that runs right by our house (across the street) just went down through. In 2 hours it will come back up through. It would usually wake me up, but since this WOE is doesn't. They blow the horn quite a bit as there are a lot of intersections before our house and after. We usually hear it coming a good mile or so away.
Just babbling again because I'm tired. Sorry.
Oh, Jocelyn, thanks for the name of that book. I will be ordering it for sure.
Robin, congrats on the $100! You'll put it to good use I know!! Tell Ken hello for me, and hope he is doing well.
Have a good night everyone and sweet dreams. God bless too.

Good night Kathy! See you tomorrow!

Good night, Kathy! Hope you get rested tonight. I think the fact that it's dark so much earlier makes us tired even though we 'gained' an hour. We've been slugs in the evening lately.

I had Chinese for dinner tonight and it was very yummy!

The restaurant had a diet menu so I had the steamed shrimp and snow peas. The sauce and rice were on the side. I ate the whole thing!

My dessert was 20 grams of dark chocolate. Maybe not the best choice, but tasted really good. I am starting to appreciate dark chocolate.

The only problem is that I will go to bed within an hour or hour and a half, and I hate to carb dam again. Oh well, I guess my grapes are better than a bagel.

You said it, sista! Glad you had the Chinese. That sounds so good to me! We had Greek salads in front of the TV - vegging out tonight. I have to go freeze some more grapes - you reminded me!:happytv:
