MM Warriors Part Deux (As of October 27)

Lisa - I saw it too, but dont worry about it! dont forget that WE are the GERIATRIC MM WARRIORS!! They are the newbie warriors and most likely to go down in battle, as evidenced by their scattered threads and dis-organization, while we are the ELDERS...calm, efficient, organized and VICTORIOUS in the end!! GO!! GERIATRIC MM'S!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I try not to care! Mostly, I don't.:grouphug:

Hi,

I also went to the OTHER board and did see this reply from Diane in regards to the Julian 1 carb bread. Thought it was interesting:
Here is Diane's reply when I asked about the Julian Smartcarb #1 bread and how to count it:

Numerous members have asked about the Julian Bakery CarbSmart #1 bread being allowed on Step #1 and Step #2 and if there is a maximum allowance daily.

The nutrition information for 1 slice is: calories- 99; fat- 1 g; sat fat- 0; choesterol- 0; sodium- 140mg; CHO- 13g; fiber- 12g; sugars- 0; protein- 12g; iron- 7%; calcium- 4%; thiamine- 8%; so 1 net carb per slice

It is made of complete sprouted grains, beans, seeds of wheat, kamut, spelt, millet, lentils, eggs, soy protein, flax seeds, quinoa, amaranth, wheat gluten, oat bran, sea salt, yeast.

Diane's Reply today 10/30/09:
"An opinion: The first ingredient on their ingredient list is wheat, it also contains quinoa, lentils. It is
hard for me to fathom that there would be only 1 gram of net carb in this product. If it were me, I'd count a slice as a 5x5 (think of a slice of 5 grams). Sorry, but better safe than sorry."

I know quite a few of you can get it, so thought I would pass the note along.

I have some pasta sauce in the crock-pot and will add my funny noodles later. It smells yummy.

I also had to straighten out my pantry as I couldn't get into it. Now I can see things again. We live in a funny condo that had NO stroage when we bought it. Bob put in a pantry by making the guest bathroom half the size it used to be and a walk in closet by re-configuring the master bath. My storage is still VERY limited and I have a tendancy to buy extra of something I like if I see it as it might not be available next time I go to the store. I have to get over that, but it happens more often than I like and I can't get it a couple of weeks later. Oh well...........

Now the back has had all the standing it can take for a while so am perusing several different sites - thus the trip to Diane's site. It is certainly hard to follow and some people will never get answers when they start a new thread all the time!!! Have never seen anything quite like it!

Til' later...

Thanks for the info from Diane on the Julian bread, Jocelyn. I do know that sprouted grains and seeds would be a lot different from milled flour. To be safe, I have written to the bakery to ask them if they have any additional nutritional information for us as to the breakdown of the carb count. I'll let you know what they say in reply. In the meantime, we'll count it as a 5 x 5 to be safe.

Oprah's best jeans show leap-of-faith Lee's trouser jeans in the size smaller came and they fit! When I held them up, I gave myself a pep talk that I would keep them for later, most likely, but they feel awesome on! Yippee! I still have a long way to go before I don't have a big butt, but this was a great reward in the interim.:worship:

Great news Lisa!! I bet you're so happy!!

I stopped in at Goodwill on my errands, and found my espresso machine! I had seen it at the kitchen store in the mall. It costs $59.99. It is now on sale for 49.99.
I got a new one at Goodwill for 19.99!! I am so excited! It didn't even look used! So, tomorrow I'll be having decaf capachinno (sp?)!! I am sooo excited!

Kudos on being such a smart shopper, Kathy! Yummo!Cappuccino was my second lab, cause he was cinnamon tinged and I love cinnamon on my coffee drinks. We called him Chino. BTW, he's the one that ate my son's stuffed bunny's face off!

That is such a cute name!! I love the caramel mochas I used to get at the store when we went on walks. I know how much syrup they put in, but not sure of the rest. I need to now order some gheradelli s/f white chocolate!! I already have the s/f caramel. Tomorrow I'll try it with the caramel and vanilla to see how I like it. I have never made espresso/capachinno before, so hopefully I don't totally mess up. LOL
I did buy Mike some espresso beans, so I'll just have to grind them when he wants coffee. Now I need to find decaf espresso beans.

Lisa, that's good info on black beans. Thank you! There was some good serving suggestions. I make rice and beans with them, but I never thought about making burritos of them.

We had them under the ground turkey on our taco salads tonight. They are really filling!

Back from the gym, and feeling GOOD! It throws me off a bit on my day off to be going so much earlier, but at least I have a workout buddy on tuesdays!

Lisa - you were right, 9g sugars in 1/2 cup! How in the world do they call it unsweetened?! I just dont think that fruits are going to be a good option for me...maybe if I peeled a whole apple and tried that? I HATE apples with the skin on, yuk! I already know that the 1/2 banana gave me a big rise in blood sugar...hmmmm what else can I try? I cant have any citrus due to my bad tummy, havent had any in years and years except a bit of lemon or lime juice in cooking. The only fruits I really enjoy are melons, all types, but they arent allowed on step 2 ANYWAY, so they must have too much sugar too. I suppose I could try the 12 grapes? Well, I guess I just keep on with the milk snack in the middle of the night, and stick with my legal crackers, occasional whole grain tortilla chips with my taco salads, and some brown rice and wheat pasta on occasion. I hate to rely on sandwiches too much as its hard to get the veggies in there, although I am quite happy to eat a sandwich for any occasion!! I suppose my Shakeology covers the veggie thing though. :confused3

One other thing...I think I am having a DUH moment...when I look for legal bread etc...I am still deducting the fiber from the total carbs right? I have whole wheat bread that is 10g per slice with 2g fiber, so thats still 8g per slice right? OMG, I seem to have lost my brain again!

BTW CONGRATS on the JEANS!! What kind are they? I didnt catch the whole Oprah thing...I have a feeling "real jeans" without elastic waist are not too far in my future too...very exciting to find some that will be comfortable, since I have that abdominal scar which makes most zip up pants very uncomfortable for me, even when I am thinner.

Kathy - cool deal on the cap machine! I love Goodwill, there are so many great deals most of the time I go! I have to go now and look for sweaters!

Jocelyn - wow, that is weird about the Julian bread, I know Lisa and I and some others were using it on step 1 as a freebie!! I LOVE that stuff, and I do remember reading the nutrition panel as 1g....but of course theres that whole Dreamfields pasta thing where they advertise it as 5g carbs and its actually 33!! Hopefully Lisa will find out the real deal, as I was thinking about ordering some more too!

Nell - any news on the appointment?

Going to go read the black beans info...I LOVE them...can we have them on step 2? OMG, I have to go read my book again...Im surprised there is any print left in it!

Hi Pony! We won't know for a couple of weeks when the new appointment is. Do you like yogurt? That can be a good carb dam. I like plain yougurt fine, but if you don't like it plain you could try some of that sugar free syrup everyone is raving about.

Robin: I think you will be pleased about how low glycemic beans are. Of course, you wouldn't want them in the night, lol! With dinner or lunch in a salad or as a side, they are a great option. Making up some chili will satisfy the 11 - 20's with beans, if you count them properly. Yes, you are right about how you count your bread. Do you like pears? I eat them for dessert sometimes if I have a Step 1 type dinner. Really loving my frozen grapes as my bedtime snack. They almost taste creamy! I guess you should stick with the milk and/or some crackers or the like? Oh, and Aitkens bars - there are some good ones that qualify as 11-20. I had a coconut one today.

The jeans are Lee jeans. They have this new 'no gap' waistband technology. I got some before at Kohl's. The most comfortable jeans ever. They stretch without looking like stretch jeans and the whole inside of the waistband is lined in a really wide elastic fabric. They do not gap anywhere at all. Dark wash trouser jean is the most dressy. That's what I got. Oprah's producer talked about Lee jeans as the affordable option to the best jeans, which were Cookie Johnson (Magic Johnson's wife). I'll get a pair of hers to celebrate if I ever get into 10's again! They cost $200. Mine were around $30.

Checkin in...haven't read anything yet, but wanted to let y'all know I'm thinking about you. I started the P90x with hubby yesterday and I'm having a hard time typing cause my arms are like rubber!!! Talk about kickin my butt. Robin you got that one right.

Lisa - I'm glad I chatted with your sister. She was right about it. I love it though. Hope I see some results!!!

Hope everyone is well. I'm going to start reading since I haven't been on in a couple day.

Cindy: Guess it's a good thing the babies are old enough to get around without you carrying them, lol! Bravo on the P90X!

Lisa- I guess I could check out the pears...see how much sugar is in them, I do like pears! Going to see if I can find the Lee Jeans too, they sound affordable and hopefully comfortable. We have a Kohls, but they dont seem to have much in plus sizes, so I dont usually go there often.

OK, so heres a black bean soup recipe I found...let me know what you think
Its 37g carbs, minus 9g fiber per 1 cup, so maybe we could have like 1/2 - 2/3 cup for an 11-20?

saute chopped onion, yellow and red peppers and 4 italian sausages removed from the casing, in 2 tbsp butter and some olive oil...sprinkle 1 tsp garlic powder over. Add 4c chicken broth, 1/2 tsp cumin and 1 can drained, rinsed black beans...simmer covered 30 minutes then pulse in blender 10-15 seconds. Add another can black beans and another 1/2 tsp cumin and simmer 15-20 minutes more. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve with dollup of sour cream and if you like it spicy, some red pepper flakes!

Sounds really yummy to me...what do you guys think?

I am all about the soups for the winter!

Cindy - LOL, I had a feeling you would be wondering what hit you after the
P90X!! It gets a little better as you keep doing it, but I could never see it as a workout I could live with for long! You're a better woman than I am!!

Nell - I do like yogurt and have some Breyers Light that fits the 11-20 but didnt want to have too much due to the aspartame. I could get the plain and just add stuff to it...good idea!

Heading to bed early again! Up early to talk to Ken in the morning! Hope y'all have a great night!
